If you look at the numbers here: www.fordf150blog.com/2019-f-150-3-5-ecoboost-vs-6-2-silverado-vs-5-7-hemi/ You'd think it'd be Ford > Chevy > Ram But at the end of the day I'd buy the Ford or the Ram before I'd get the Chevy. The F-150 always seems to do better where it matters and Ram really REALLY improved their looks over last year, so much so that I sometimes catch myself considering wanting one. So for me it's Ford > Ram > Chevy
@jnk26
@jnk26 5 лет назад
@motownautospa he was making the point that he doesn't understand that "Ram" has remote start w/push button ignition. Without the intelligent access. He never said they don't offer it. In order to get that on the ford you need the lariat trim and it's both features in one package.

Great video. I have a 2015 RAM Ecodiesel which gets 28mpg city and highway. Pulling a 6000 trailer I got 19 mpg on a 900 mile drive. I like how I have the option of pushing the center console up for a sixth person. I like the dial shifter. What I don't like about it is it is difficult to shift to neutral and turn off the engine to roll. I like the fact you pointed out the RAM was not as strong on the body. My roof has dents from my pecan tree!

You asked for our thoughts, well here is mine: I’ve had the chance to take both trucks home for several days. The overall feel and driving experience of the ram was more enjoyable and driver engaging. The one I had had a sport appearance group with LED headlights. The interior fit and finish was remarkable. Super quite, no rattles or creaks. The turn knob took time getting used to. The infotainment system was super sharp and responsive. I kept reaching for a non existent shifter but loved the 8hp75 transmission. I did not like the fake piano surround on the ram and found it annoying with fingerprints. The Ford was more “truck” like. The 302A group has some nice features, but the overall feeling with the touch screen seemed dated. I noticed a slight misalignment on the dash and there was this slight, but annoying dash rattle on this particular truck. Seating in both was good but the steering wheel felt better and more confidence inspiring in the Ram. The Ford also felt a little more “plasticky” with essentially everything being hard touch. The Ford drove very well, but the ram was just better on just about every road. Felt more control and more connection to the truck and the road. I ended up deciding on the ram but in a Laramie trim. Both are good trucks though. A side note! What the heck was Chevy thinking.... 🤦🏼‍♂️
@Pilot545
@Pilot545 5 лет назад
Agree. Both great trucks! I personally went with the F-150 and haven't had any of the issues you pointed out. I test drove the RAM, too, but didn't get as good of a deal. Didn't even test drive the Chevy. haha. I knew my decision would be between Ford and Ram.

The Ram and the Ford are great because they're built in the US of A. The GM stuff, they're mostly Mexican. Apart from the base work trucks and fleet vehicles that are still made in the USA, the mid and high trim levels are built in Silao, Mexico.
@mattmakowsky
@mattmakowsky 5 лет назад
When I was looking for my new truck it was between the Ford and Ram. I was looking at the limited trim for both. I was looking for a truck with a lot of luxury. I went with the Ford because I enjoyed the engine power and the outside look of the Ford. The Ram interior is the better between the two but for me the outside of the Ford sold it. Also the Chevy/GMC trucks don't come close to the level that Ford and Ram are on. That's a reason Ram has gained so much ground in terms of sales to the Chevy.
@sergiupuscasu2496
@sergiupuscasu2496 5 лет назад
@@mattmakowsky Ram gained ground on Chevy because they are actually improving their trucks over time. Chevy is actually copying Ford's strategy of releasing a new truck every half a decade, and yet they can't keep up. Ram just releases a new truck once every 9-10 years, and the next generation is always a significant step above the previous generation. GM just doesn't do that. Also, if you're a Ford, Chevy or Ram lover, why even bother with testing out other trucks? You already have a favorite. Actually, a lot of GM people are converting to other brands.

Comment on the dial shifter... The dodge stops moving if you open your door - drives me nuts when backing your boat into the landing and then open your door so you seen how deep your rear wheels are getting into the water and it stops/moves to neutral or otherwise won't keep backing up!!! You say it will keep moving if you left it in drive - it doesn't do that as far as I know - it actually will put it into "park" if you forget to shift it there when you park your vehicle. Good video - I am a FORD guy that tried a RAM to see what they're like. Granted I went from XLT to REBEL, I like the 5.7L - it goes like hell! The ecoboost is nice, but not as fun to drive. The mileage, however, is much better on the FORD. I get maybe 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway with the RAM and of the 4 ecoboosts I've owned, I averaged 18 in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway. One thing I love about the REBEL is the air suspension - no matter what you have loaded in the truck, it sits level. I am sure FORD has something equivalent, but I haven't owned that version (yet)! The other thing I'd mention about the RAM, I do not have the rear seats with the flat floor - mine has panels that fold out to make a flat floor... I do not like it. There is a lot less room for stuff in the RAM (IE: small tool box) than there is in the FORD. Also, the navigation system in my REBEL is so outdated it's practically useless... I don't bother using it and just rely on my phone. I would NOT get their GPS package and just use your phone (connected to the system). My FORD GPS's were much more up to date. As far as rebates and leasing goes, FORD has much better options and is overall more affordable than RAM IMO. One nice thing with the RAM for the guys who still like to tear it up, when you shut off traction control, you can whip sideways and tear it up! My FORD's worked differently - when you turn the traction control off, if allows you to spin the tires, but the vehicle dynamic system still functions so as soon as you start sliding, it "brakes" the tires to straighten you back out... in other words, you can't whip shitties! Honestly, I like both trucks. RAM is more fun drive - FORD is more of a real truck = my 10 cents.
@JF1311993
@JF1311993 3 года назад
With the Ford if you hold down the traction control button for 8 seconds it shuts off the stability control so you can whip shitties. Lol I have a 2020 F-150 and my friend bought a 2020 Ram a couple months later. I can definitely tell you both these trucks are pretty evenly matched and they each have their pros and cons. But definitely both good choices.

I own a 2018 F150 and really enjoy it. Just FYI, I would put very little importance on the flexing exterior body parts. Body panel parts have almost nothing to do with structural integrity. Many manufacturers purposely have softer or some give flexibility body panel parts to lessen injuries with vehicle/pedestrian accidents. What you passed over, which is a HUGE DOWNFALL with the XL and XLT is that Ford will NOT give you 4 Auto in 4x4 equipped model, Chevy and Ram does. Read about the perils of 4x4 transmission windup.
@joefries365
@joefries365 Год назад
You might not want 4x4 auto.. even with warranty and new tech, id stay 100 miles away from that setting. what do you think happens when your back tires are spinning and the front has to engage. hard on stuff and breaks stuff. They may have implemented a system that is better but i wouldn't trust it. I live up in Canada where all vehicles have to endure 7 months of winter every year and ive seen sooo many people come in and say their t-case it making noise or their front wheel bearing area is grinding, get in the truck and its in 4x4 auto.

@james2042

Okay so here is a long list of missed facts that heavily reflects the strong ford bias here. (Also I still plan on buying a 2019 denali over both the f150 limited or ram limited/longhorn (only difference between the two trims is appearance), but it still annoys me when dealer based youtube channels try and sell a vehicle over their competition with a "fair comparison" which is why i'm making this list) -ram has been seperate from dodge for years now, js -The coils do not have any impact on towing, as the ram 2500, which uses coils, has 200lbs more tow capacity than the f250. The towing difference is down to the aluminum body's weight reduction, which ford throws into payload/tow capacity. (also f150 drivers have noted that it is very stressful towing near capacity as the trailer blows the lighter truck around easier than any other half ton, but I have no personal experience towing 13,000 in any vehicle so hence the parenthesis) -that ram is poorly speced with having a sport apperance package over no running boards, anyone who needs them or is a considerate person to their passengers would have them on the truck anyways, even if it was part of the negotiations at the dealer lot for the dealer to put some on. -That bedliner must have been added at the dealer, as the sticker does not have the 595 dollar bedliner option on it. also its about 40 dollars cheaper to get spray in bedliner from the factory on a ram, but thats just nitpicking -The price difference between the two hemi's is because of the e-torque mild hybrid system. The tow rating comes from the second one because of the electronic assist motor, not from any higher output from the hemi. You claim the price increase from standard hemi to etorque hemi is insane, but the price from the 2.7 ecoboost to the 5.0 coyote is actually more and the 2.7 and the towing difference between the two options is functionally identical to the difference in the hemis -Fuel economy when using the ecoboost when towing large loads will be lower than competitors due to the nature of turbochargers. Ford knows this as the new 7.3l was designed with towing fuel economy in mind vs highway cruising fuel economy. -The ecoboost takes "pride" in requiring only regular to the hemi's need for midgrade, but the hemi gets its full power rating with midgrade while the ecoboost needs premium to get its max power rating. So if you tow a lot you will be using premium fuel which means you will spend way more on fuel, as the turbocharged engine will get less towing mpg and use a more expensive fuel. -Start/stop in the ram is more thoroughly designed with the etorque system. Only trucks with the etorque have it, and the system uses a traditional starter to start the vehicle initially, and uses a mild hybrid system for start/stop, which has its own power source so there is no additional wear and tear on the starter and battery of the truck. It also uses the electric motor for the first half rotation of the wheels when going from a dead stop so there is ample time for the engine to start back up so there is little to no perceivable latency off the line. -After making several points about etorque, im pretty sure you didn't even know the ram 1500 came in a mild hybrid. -the ecodiesel was not axed, it is having epa certification issues that is delaying its return, but it is still planned to ship 2019 "all new" rams with the ecodiesel before the end of the model year. -The truck has a safety feature where if the truck starts moving with an open door it will automatically apply the electronic parking break, it will not roll with an open door. So this complain is wildly invalid. -you can put file folders in the console, just not as many as the f-150, just wanted to point that out even though the f150 has the superior file management system -In most reviews from independent reviewers I have seen, they would take the Uconnect over sync 3 every time. Maybe all the reviewers are "more technologically advanced" but its still an observation worth noting. -You completely wiffed on the 12v plug on top of the dash for dash cams, it is the only vehicle I know of (at all) that has a dedicated dash cam plug, anything else either runs down your dashboard to your console or you have to modify the vehicle and hardwire it into the 12v line of the mirror -The ram's center console is much more phone/tablet friendly. It is easier to place up to two phones on chargers in the ram and the smaller top compartment in the console is specifically designed to house an 11 inch tablet on a charger without issue. -with physical buttons in the ram, you can turn off parking sensors independently of each other. This is great for not only backing up your truck to a trailer, but also when on any non paved surface so the truck doesn't stop for every rock higher than 2 inches And things you didn't even give the f-150 credit for are things like the larger fuel tank options (36 vs 33 gal), the 10 speed auto transmission over the 8 speed in the ram, the much wider range of rear axles available to the f150 (the hemi only gets two options) you are the pinnacle of salesmen. Please for the sake of buyers, stop making comparative videos

Despite being a Ford salesperson, I have to say you were about as fair as anyone could be, but there was still bias. The comment about the "flex" in the front fender was very misleading. Obviously this was an attempt to sell people on the aluminum aspect of the F150. The movement at the front of the fender on the Ram is not due to the material it's made of, but due to the fact that the fender is not fully supported out to the very front near the headlight. Aluminum is considerably more brittle and does offer a more ridged surface, but being brittle also makes dent repairs more complicated and costly. In a way from an engineering perspective I'm not sure I'd talk about flex at all. All truck bodies flex. you can say that the new frames on the aluminum-bodied F-150 are stiffer, but there will always be flex. The reduced susceptibility to flexing with aluminum is also a detriment. Over time repetitive flexing will cause the metal at stress points to fatigue and crack. The difference in the load weight between the F-150 and Ram 1500 is not the rear suspension and the fact that Ram uses coil springs! The difference is available to the F-150 simply because the vehicle unladen weight is less. The claim that the ride difference between the two trucks is too close to judge is the unfortunate Ford salesperson mantra. Those leaf springs in the rear cause considerable more rear hop than the coils on the Ram. I've been in both, there is no comparison in ride quality. Even the new Silverado rides better than the F-150. Also, if you stop the Ram in Drive and open the driver's door, the E-brake is automatically applied.

I recently switched from a 2018 F-150 Platinum to a 2019 Ram Limited. In this video the RAM does have the offroad package, which is equivalent to the FX4, skid plates, 1' lift and locking rear axle. Great point on the rear glass, Ford looks the best by far. The 3.5 ecoboost is a monster that I loved to drive and tows awesome but mileage is not a good as advertised. I have to strongly disagree with the leaf/vs coil spring comment. They are dual rate springs, soft ride and great load handling capability. Also very easy to lift, (did it last week on a bighorn). I've grown to love the rotary shifter, it frees up tons of space in the center console, which is now massive in the ram, for 2019 it does put itself in park! The file folder point....its 2019 we have Ipads/tablets. The Ram has way more USB chargers along with the new USB-C and wireless phone charger. The push button start and full keyless entry is an option. Works great on my truck. I do really miss the key pad but I can use the Uconnect app on my phone to lock/unlock and start the vehicle with the keys inside. Back seat room.... at 18:30 you show the dimensions. Rear legroom Ram: 45.2 Ford 43.6. At 25:53 you say "not nearly as much leg room" HAHAHA give me a break!!! Obviously you're going to lean Ford but you can't show the facts and then choose to ignore them 7 minutes later. That said, nothing in the industry touches the 2019 Ram with Air-ride, the ride quality, load carrying, and trailering confidence is second to none. Period. The biggest reason I bought the Ram is the interior not even close. Style, materials fit and finish. 12" screen is awesome too! All in all great video, you made an effort to be fair. I respect that. I can't wait to see the 2020 F-150's!

Great review, even though you were slightly biased towards the Ford being a Ford associate you did a great job. Edmond's pick in this class of trucks is the Ram, Chevy second and Ford third. That being said, all three have their Pros and cons and the difference between the three is minimal at best. All three are a great option and ultimately it ends up being a consumers opinion on which one of the three is right for them. I just purchased a Ram 2019 last night from the dealership which had great Labor Day incentives which tipped the scale in the Ram category. I have owned Chevy, Chrysler Jeeps, and Fords so I believe all of them have their pluses and minus... Again, great job on the comparison of the two trucks!

The Ram 1500 is more an SUV alternative than a work truck & tower. Yes, it can still be a work truck and compete with the F150 for light pickup duties, but Ram is clearly targeting SUV and first time truck buyers And in doing so, they have also produced a truck that has Ford and Chevy guys reconsidering their next truck buy. Very clever move by FCA.

@@randomperson7135 I'm talking about the half ton truck market. Ford has dominated that market followed by the GM twins The 1500 is competing with the market leader 150 who didn't have a diesel option until recently. Ram has been slowly improving it's build quality, and interiors and is now routinely consulting it's buyers for features of their trucks that they would like. Ford has been simply doing it their way and only their way for the last decade, expecting their customers to remain loyal and praise whatever they do. I am a ford guy with their cars. I've never been interested in trucks until recently. I then started looking at the Fseries, how ford builds their trucks, the powerstroke and the competition. I was going to say that I wish someone would buy a F150 from him then sue the dealership due to false claims but I'm pretty sure the lawyers went over this video. He says how some people believe that Chrysler axed the 3.0 instead of stating it actually happened. Then when he says it doesn't have as much room while sitting in the back of the RAM he doesn't actually say the RAM has less room and in the F150 he says the seat is set to where I had it when in the front which of course he doesn't say when sitting in the RAM and they make a point to show the real dimensions in each truck. Also when he is talk about the intelligent access he makes it seem as the RAM doesn't have the same feature available but while saying this truck doesn't have it

I wouldn't call them lies but they were definitely highly biased opinions. He states he doesn't know why RAM uses springs? Well because people use their truck as a daily driver and when not hauling don't want it to ride like a buckboard. They are willing to sacrifice the additional 200 lbs. for the smoother ride. Also, the Ford does have better fuel economy that's a clear fact.

How does the ram have a larger cab, yet less rear leg room? Seems like something was left out, not to mention that the Rams rear seat slides forward to mimic a recline. Also, what about the rest of the usb and wireless charging options in the front console?

There’s an option in the settings for the ram that if u stop and get out while it’s in drive, it will automatically put the parking brake on

Yea the Ram is where it’s at, I have a 2018 bighorn 4x4 Hemi (got it cheaper due to new body on the lots). The Ford F-150 is a good truck and I like some of the features. I was coming from a 98 F150 with 320k miles and really wanted to get that longevity with a new one but after test driving both I went with the ram. The Hemi felt much more like a truck power plant especially in 4low than the F150 5.0, the ecotech seemed to struggle under a load and had me worried about longevity, now the ram needed headers right off the bat due to exhaust manifold being iron on aluminum heads but I love it.

I just bought a 2019 Ram Bighorn. It has a lot more options on it than what this shows. I LOVE it. I’ll keep the RAM any day of the week. Ford is doing a damn good job. I’ll revisit this once the hybrid comes out though.
