I just watched another review of this bike, and I also am not a hardcore bicyclist, so I didn’t comprehend a lot of the technical specs that were discussed. This review worked a lot better for me. Thanks!
Nice review and you made a good choice. I bought a Trek FX 7.5 in 2012. I put between 1,200 - 1,500 miles a season and besides occasional adjustments and lubrication, all I have had to do is replace worn out tires. I love the bike. You will get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I am looking for a new Hybrid Bike myself right now. I had looked at Trek as a manufacturer, however reading their customer service and warranty reviews (in the UK) has really put me off. They look like they make great bikes, but seriously put off by the negative feedback. Very glad that Megan is happy with her Trek, I hope it remains that way in the long term. Nice review.
@@megansidmore Thanks Megan. With Covid-19 here in the UK a lot of people have been buying bikes to keep up with exercise and I am late to the party! Not many of what I like (and can afford) going at the moment so looks like I will have to wait. Best of luck, happy cycling.
I bought my daughter the Verve 1 to take to college. That bike is nearly identical; the frame is just a bit more upright. It has done an adequate job. But being out in the elements has taken its toll. As soon as I can get a week with that bike, it will get a full rebuild and then it will be fine for grad school. I’m going to start collecting parts.
the wheel hub problem might be due to not mounting the bike on rack but storing inside the car which might have damaged rear gear group. When you lat flat, the gear side must be on top.
Ill keep an eye out for that going forward. Unfortunately, the bike had the wheel hub problem from the day I picked it up from the bike shop, so the problem occurred before I bought the bike :(
Hi, thanks! I considered one or two from Specialized and Giant, like the specialized sirrus 2.0 step through. I also looked at the FX1 stagger disc, which would have been my first choice because of the better brakes, but because of the bike shortage, I pretty much just jumped on whatever came available first, which happened to be this FX1!
@@megansidmore To be honest, the mechanical disc brakes on the FX1 Disc feel wooden and take a lot of hand grip to stop -- quite a bit worse than the rim brakes (unless you ride in mud!).
are there any other cons to the stagger bar? I've heard it doesn't fit some racks? Im torn between stagger vs normal right now, any feedback is appreciated!
Hi! So ive put this on a bike rack, and the staggered frame did make it difficult, if not impossible. The solution was to buy a crossbar that makes it much easier to mount. Amazon has quite a few options for these for around $20-$30! The good thing about the stagger is its easier to get on and off the bike, but if thats not a limiting factor for you, then i think youd probably be good with either frame!
I think it depends on what you are looking for in your bike. Being new to biking, I personally wasn't willing to pay any more than I did for the FX1. The FX2 definitely seems to have some perks such as being a couple pounds lighter and having internal cable routing and I'm sure many other small differences, but for $200 less, the FX1 has done very well! I can't speak for the FX2 all that well since I have never tried one out, but if those extra features would make a big difference in your enjoyment of riding, then I would say it could be worth the extra money!
@@megansidmore Thanks for the reply! I'm also new to biking I haven't ridden a bike since elementary school hahaha. I will probably get the FX 1 then since it fits my use case better. Good luck hope u enjoy ur bike!
I'm kind of contemplating a Trek Dual Sport 1 (I think the FX1 is discontinued now). I have a terrible Walmart bike that I've used all last year until about October. I had it to the bike shop like 4 times (probably ended up costing about $300 in total in repairs. I was driving it 50-100km a week which I'm sure it was never meant to do much more than drive around the block. I've convinced myself I better get a real bike this year but theres still serious shortages here in Atlantic Canada. I may have to travel from Nova Scotia to PEI to get one in fact once the travel ban is lifted.
Hi, I search trek ds2 video but found ur video. I click play button and look ur explen speech is so so beautiful. U r looking very beautiful. Love this video.❤️👍
hi there! Shifting into the correct gear is entirely up to how you feel while riding the bike. I recommend making sure you don't feel like the bike is too easy to pedal or too difficult. If it's too easy, shift up. If it's too hard, shift down. In terms of how to use the shifter, on my bike on the right hand shifter, the index-finger lever shifts up and the thumb lever shifts down. For the left hand shifter, it is the opposite. Happy riding!
