A man posted the picture of his 2022 Toyota Tundra going to the dealership for the 3rd time for a very frustrating reason. His truck has only 49,000 miles and it needs the 3rd engine replacement.
Wallace, the original poster, says, "My 2022 is going back to the dealership. 3rd motor going in. First engine replacement happened at 30k miles. This one is at 49k miles. Engine locked up while cruising down the highway at 60mph. This is the third and last time this truck will leave me stranded on the side of the road."
At the time of this writing, David's post had generated 285 comments.
It seems to be that the hybrid Toyota Tundra trucks don't have issues vs the non-hybrid ones. Marshal Hayes has an interesting comment in the discussion, which I find very revealing. He writes, "I just bought a 23. The Toyota dealer I went to told me that they had had zero issues with the hybrid model. But they are inundated with issues in the non-hybrid. Must be some failure point there that the hybrid doesn’t experience."
Points discussed in this video:
2022 Toyota Tundra Engine Problems (Main issue).
3rd Engine in 49,000 Miles?! (Highlights the severity).
Is My Tundra a Lemon? (Sparks viewer curiosity).
Toyota Tundra Engine Reliability? (Questions brand reputation).
2022 Tundra Short Block Replacement Issues (Mentions a possible cause).
Avoid the 2022 Tundra? (Raises a buying question).
Toyota Needs to Address Tundra Engine Issues! (Calls for action).

The claim that the hybrids are more reliable doesn't hold water. It's the same engine and transmission with additional complications. Any anecdotal claims about increased reliability are almost certainly just due to the numbers of each sold.

Short blocks typically, 99% of the time, incoude new bearings, crank shaft, connecting rods, pistons, valves, lifters, oil pump and anything internal... corss contamination from the acessories that would be attached to the short block make no sense... The accessories may fail, but the short block is not contaminated by the acessories... FYI.
@Torquenews
@Torquenews Месяц назад
You're correct. Short blocks are typically self-contained units with new internal components and wouldn't be affected by contamination from external accessories like the oil pump. Those accessories might fail on their own, but wouldn't cause issues with the short block itself.
@lespaulguitarist92
@lespaulguitarist92 Месяц назад
What? Anything that the oil flows through is contaminated and will need to be replaced: turbos, oil coolers, etc. the head can be cleaned by the machine shop, BUT they would have to do a good cleaning. Still risky.

Her brand new Toyota Sienna van wouldn't start, acting like a battery issue. The dealership checked it multiple times but couldn't find anything wrong. This happened several times, and Cheryl decided to deal directly with Toyota, who pressured the dealership to act. www.torquenews.com/1/toyota-contacted-me-immediately-about-our-sienna-and-closed-case-only-after-we-were-completely

@@Torquenewsnew crate short block. But they clean and reused the head…. Head will need to be properly clean to be safely reused again. Turbos, oil coolers etc would need to be replaced entirely because it’s impossible to clean those. If toyota refuse to replace everything that the oil touches… a repeat failure is doom to happaned again.

@lespaulguitarist92 it's disgusting on Toyota's part to only offer a short block. You no longer have a factory quality engine, you have a rebuilt engine built by some random guy at the dealership. You don't know their workmanship or attention to detail. You don't know if all the metal contamination was eliminated. It's an ugly scar carried by the truck the rest of its life.

Toyota Quality is not on the table anymore when considering the extra cost of buying a Toyota when GM and Ford offers $10,000 off and extra rebates and a 1.99 for 72 mos Toyota can keep them rags
@Torquenews

The current situation with some 2022 Tundra engines raises questions about Toyota's reliability. The deals offered by GM and Ford are definitely attractive, especially with lower upfront costs and financing options. However, it's important to consider long-term ownership. Traditionally, Toyotas have held their value better and required less maintenance compared to some American brands. It's too early to say definitively if this Tundra issue is a widespread problem or an isolated case.

The owner of this new Toyota Tacoma said he would "absolutely not regret at night" tinting the windows of his Tacoma truck, but I was surprised to see how many Tacoma owners replied that they do indeed regret tinting the windows of their trucks. Look www.torquenews.com/1/i-tinted-my-toyota-tacoma-windows-and-now-regret-it-night Have you ever had regrets about tinting your windows, especially at night?

Emissions controls absolutely effect reliability. My F-150 has direct and port injection, twin turbos, a ten speed transmission, and even electric grille shutters, and that's just for starters. All of these items are additional potential points of failure, and they all exist to meet efficiency goals. There are of course other benefits. I love the combination of power and efficiency the 2.7 gives me, IMO it's a nearly perfect 1/2 ton drivetrain if your towing needs are modest. But I am under no delusions of what it could end up costing me now that it is out of warranty. Luckily other engineering advancements to improve reliability have offset the potential problems, so far anyway.
@Torquenews
@Torquenews 28 дней назад
However, it's important to remember that emissions regulations have also driven innovation in engine design. Manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to meet stricter standards without sacrificing reliability. For example, better materials and improved manufacturing processes can help mitigate some of the potential problems with complex engines.
