You're starting to look like a homeless veteran that wanders into a small town before being told by the local Sheriff to "keep it movin" and you fight back and hide up in the hills until your old commander gets in touch with you to stop raising hell and come on out
There are a few times in my life where I looked back at the decisions that I made and thank the God in heaven I made the right choice. One of those was definitely marrying my wife, the second was picking the career that I have, and the third was buying a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro double cab and not waiting for the 2022 Tundra.
I was a bit disappointed when I decided to buy my 2020 Tundra because I wanted to buy the new redesign but got tired of waiting. The truck retailed just under 45k and I bought it for 36k. Now with the current crazy high prices and the underwhelming 2022 redesign I realize it was probably a blessing.
@@calebniederhofer6529 I have the 3rd Gen Tacoma first year of the redesign 2016 it had issues with the trans hunting gears like crazy had to get a update from Toyota to fix it. But it still was hunting gears only fix was to go with 4:88 gears which is what it should have came with from the factory. So most new Gen Toyotas have issues first year out
@@PHILLIPS8822 It is that way for all manufacturers lol. The issues so far seem to be computer related, software issues. That stuff can be updated, fixed.
I agree with the other comments. I personally know of friends with new cars that all are having issues. With the manufacturers clawing for parts I’m sure there are going to be a lot of unintended issues. We are seeing it in my industry of two-way radio.
I HAVE A TERRIBLE PROBLEM ON MY FRONT WINDOW (DRIVER SIDE) WHEN I PLAY MY MUSIC IT MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE THEY TRY TO FIX THAT PROBLEM FOR 4 MONTHS ALREADY AND THEY CAN'T FIXED THEY TRY TO CONVENCE ME IS SOMETHING NORMAL ON THIS TRUCK I HAVE A PLATINUM ALMOST $80,000 AND THATS SOMETHING NORMAL?
Toyota owner for years. When you get fuel, if you don't close the gas cap tight enough the check engine light will come on. It cycles through its thing then the light goes off again. If that's all it is. I crank it a few good times to make sure the cap is on securely whenever I fuel.
Redding Native here! Shasta Lake is supposed to me MUCH higher for this time of year. If you ever catch yourself down at Shasta Lake again. Look into the Shasta Caverns. It’s a awesome cave system that you have to take a pontoon boat across the lake to get to.
I’m at 5k miles in my 22 Tundra and the only warning light I’ve received was regarding the parking brake failing to fully activate, but the check engine light came on for that. I’m not suggesting this one was your fault, but mine WAS my fault. I just turned the truck off too quickly after putting it in park. After I got it cleared, I had no issue.
Also, I saw a video in which the chief engineer for the truck discussed the stock skid plate. Even though it feels flimsy, it’s practically indestructible - I forget what material they used, but nothing is going through it - it is kind of small, though.
It’s a sensor issue and dirty front warning sensors , I’m sure you’re aware by now once it has 3 cycles of where the sensors are clear the warning goes away I had the same switch from a 2018 raptor to 22 tundra not sure I’m sold just yet on Toyota it seems like all the new electrical toys are having issues
I watch those videos for entertainment value I drive a Lexus GX from 2016 I waited two years to make sure that's worked out pretty good I never buy brand new cars from production line I always wait two years and then I get a new car so I get them brand new by couple years down the road let them work out the kinks this is complete b*******. Especially because you're out with your family I got GX I get everywhere I need to go The only problem with it is it takes premium fuel other than that no issues regular maintenance.
Why do I feel like Modern Vehicles are going backwards in the reliability department, Never selling my 2016 Tacoma/4Runner, new stuff is over complicated nonsense
Off road package is available on most packages for a smal extra. Ride height still the same but tires, suspension, differential and software all upgraded for a 2-3 thousand.
Welcome to the 1980's When everything was turbo and reliability went out the window! TOYTOA Should have put a supercharger on it. We have zero issues with the 3.4 l v6 4runner supercharger or the tundra supercharger kits.
Bought a 2022 4Runner Off Road Premium a couple weeks ago. Rushed to get it to make sure I had one before the 5th gen 4Runner was gone for good (2023 looks to be the last year). I rushed to get it because I fully expect the new 6th Gen 4Runner to have a lot of problems. Which is crazy because even for the first year of new models, you still don't expect Toyotas to have issues. What's more is there is a rumor that the 6th Gen for North America will be manufactured in the Mexico factory, not Tahara. Obviously this is all useless info for anyone looking for a truck with a bed, as the 4Runner does not have a bed. But I guess just saying that your video is validating my concerns. I feel very lucky to own one of the most bullet proof vehicles on the road. And easy to work on. MPG sucks but the 4Runner will see 8,500 miles a year AT THE MOST.
Sup max, I have a ‘21 f150 and I can tell you I have a shit tone of problems with my new truck. I only have 15k miles on it and the are currently 4 open recalls, and 3 closed. Parts on back order for the next 7 months. The trucks now a days are trash
I have a '22 Powerboost 502A Lariat and I've driven 5000 kms. The truck has been fantastic, great mileage, loving the tech and the fantastic ride. Tows our RV like there's nothing behind it. Zero issues, probably one of the best new vehicles I've owned in 45 years of buying new vehicles.
this truck was on my short list for next year......not anymore , what a hunk of junk, shoulda kept the factories in Japan . My 2021 F150 Lariat smokes this thing hands down !
Man, you're taking one for the team by beta testing the new Tundra. I'm sure you get tired of hearing this, but my 2018 Tundra has been solid and reliable.
Just got a 2018 TRD Sport to use as a family truck (😢 not 4WD) but overall it feels just as durable as my old 2017 TRD Off-road Taco and my recent 2017 Lexus ES-350.
C',mon man, you should know better than driving on a wall damaged Steer tire at Hwy speeds ,especially with the family, put the spare on . I have followed you for a long time but your head does not seem to be in the game of late & it is nothing to be ashamed of, happens to everyone at some stage ,might be time to take some real time off for your self & to sit back & gather your thoughts .
I've literally never seen a tundra on the side of the road in a decade of towing my 27ft toy hauler from AZ to glamis with my 08' tundra. I hope the new tundras aren't the end of that...
I put 137 miles on my new tundra and it’s been at dealers for three weeks. All lights on dash came on and went into limp mode. Now I’m told it requires a short block they can’t get? Now what , got my first payment next week. Not good for the product.
I love my Tundra, but I have put a lot of money into it to get it where it is now. And I still have some big plans for it. It is my second Tundra and it is super reliable. I can't speak for new model though. I had a first gen and now a third gen. I think the 2019 is the one I am sticking with. Hopefully, once you get your issue resolved, you are happy with it.
I’ve have a tacoma and a tundra and both have been nightmares. I’ve since moved to Ford in 2018 and I haven’t had a single issue! I use to hate ford but now I’m onboard…for now
I'm sure that the automotive supply chain crisis has to play into the issues your experiencing. To meet the demand quality control im sure is starting to suffer even in the ISO 9001 rated plants.
Dad bought his tundra 2 months ago. So far he gets lag. Like the engine is starving for fuel. Toyota? No clue. Also shifts wierd. It's also getting recalled for nuts and bolts flying off I believe the rear differential. Very disappointing to say the least.
You destroyed your raptor with the lack of maintaining maintenance and using it to haul stuff that it’s not made to do…. I hope you take care of the tundra better….
It's not a skid plate, it's a splash shield. And that's why I wouldn't buy any new gen of model vehicles until a few years. That's bc manufacturers still has bugs, errors and improvements to make.
They also are not getting the highly Touted Gas Milage from the V6 Twin Turbo. It should have been in the mid 20's. Yes Ive seen dime thickness.... imatation Skid plates, Lame...
There was an issue with bad electronic wastegate actuators on the passenger side from the supplier. Turbos themselves are fine. No engine issues other than that. Like 1% of trucks
OK fair enough but can I argue that I wouldn't have all these things if I didn't make videos with them and if I didn't make videos with them then i would probably have only one truck and it would look perfect because i would just drive it to some soul sucking job all week waiting for a 3 day weekend so I can take it to a trail.
I was actually expecting a video were the Tundra had to be towed or something like that. I been researching for videos like this with trucks having mechanical issues and this is the first video on a Toyota Tacoma most of the vifeos I have found are from Ford F150 Tremor owners, Chevy Silverado Trail Boss and Jeep Gladiators. I'm in the market for a full size truck and really leaning toward the Tundra TRD Pro but I will wait for another to go by and hopes all this chip shortage problems go away.
I wonder if he read page 174 in his owners manual I think a lot of these problems people are having with their new 2022 Tundras could be operator error
Love the videos Maxx and its cool to see you going back to basic camping. I cant wait to get a roof top tent but Ive been tent camping with my kids for over 10 years and its cool to see it on your channel. 👍
Ya Maxx, I looked at one of these and just sighed... I so wanted to like it, now I am just not going to buy anything new till the stupids with all of the manus gets fixed. I'm driving a 2003 GMC Yukon XL with the 8.1 and to be brutally honest, it is more of a great rig than I thought. I bought it after our 2018 ram 3500 HO, with AEV stuff broke 2 drag links, I then went well lets try a 3.0 duramax, and it was just like this, flimsy. I let the door go at a gas station BARELY and it hit a pole guarding the tank, and neat dent in the aluminum. I then got told that towing and burning oil are normal, as well as 14 mpg with a small cargo trailer, I got mad they told me "this is how it is with all vehicles now." OK, fine, I'm done, looked all over for an 8.1 and guess what? It is reliable, tows better than that Ram one ton ever dreamed of (not amounts but comfort and speed). I was at the shop where my 91 land cruiser is getting worked at, and the mechanic was talking about my 8.1, how people don't realize how good they are. I told him, seriously, if it gets totaled I have not a clue what I would replace it with. No idea. 38 or more gallon tank? Sucks to fill but it has a killer range, even when towing and hey, no DEF or worrying about fuel. Sorry man, that is no fun buying a new rig and it sucks.
I know this issue from the tundra is from awhile ago, hopefully it’s been resolved. I don’t want to be negative considering the $$$ of a new truck. We are needing a new truck and welp, it’s the worst time for one.
What color is your 4Runner? Just curious because my 2021 Tacoma has a quarter size chip on the access cab door that doesn’t appear to have been hit by something.
You have a lot to learn about the truck man. Nowadays Toyota links multiple systems together. Multiple lights will come on for one code depending on the code. There’s no parking brake sensor like you think. The grill shutter issue has been addressed by Toyota. Bring it in to have the system reflashed to the newest version.
meanwhile my 07 has 180K and the light has never been on, runs absolutely perfect, I don't hesitate to jump in it and drive cross country. The 22 had bad reliability issues off the bat, dealerships cannot even sell them right now. People bitched about wanting more tech and Toyota ruined the most reliable 1/2 ton on the road all for 1-2 MPGs... Really sad. Do yourself a favor, sell that piece of junk and get a 21.
Great video. I actually agree with the flimsiness of the Tundra. My '22 has some crazy rattling coming from both front door cards whenever I play music with any level of bass or drive on a bumpy road. QC def is not there yet on these but I still love the truck overall.
I feel you pain about these issues on your new truck . I feel that todays market .. like after year of 2000 , and forward… cars are not designed to last like the old days. There are lot of things that’s with the mpg regulations and smog .. like old days electronic fuel injection vs now is direct injection or something like that and they burn hotter and noisy like diesel .
You should not have cleared the code so now you may not know what the actual issue was. Also after disconnecting battery the car may not run smooth until a few hours/days in newer cars.
Always been a Toyota fan and considered the new Tundra but with so many issues I've heard of I went with a 22 Sierra Elevation X31 and I LOVE it! Btw great channel!
JD power just said cars are becoming less reliable. Who’s is to blame? I think carbon emission requirements. Make things more high tech, thinner, lighter. To squeeze out a fraction of fuel savings.
Cud be a big mistake leaving that nail in tyre for longer as all it will do is start rubbing on the inside of the tyre and cause more damage sooner the better to fix it
toyota screwed themselves when they made a less than quality product at the start. Especially if the tundra was always far behind the F150 and Ram. Now they even increase the price, got rid of the V8, this truck will very likely fail to stop the F150 or Ram. It will remain FAR BEHIND and mark my word on this
Sorry that this happened to you and your family, I know it is annoying but, to be fair its the first year of a brand new generation of a vehicle, where everything is new... There is always going to be teething problems for the first year or two... Ford, Chevy and Ram have all had the same issues before, look at the ten speed transmission on Fords and Chevys, and the ford Ecoboost had issues with water condensing in the intercoolers and would hydrolock the engine, same with the 2.7 eco boost in the bronco having complete engine failure are 2k miles, ram had issues with quality control and problems and then with there eco diesel engine only last 15-25k miles before complete failure... Same with Chevy with there 5.3 & 6.2 V8 spinning main bearings and bending pushrods, then there 3.0 diesels leaking from the read main seals, long Crank and no-starts. All new cars/trucks have problems brother. Toyota tends to have better reliability long term compared to other manufacturers especially after they engineer the glitch out and get past the teething stage. Even our Tacomas had issues when they first came out. Once again love the show and keep doing you bro, excited to see you build the tundra.
Isn’t the 2022 the first model of its generation? Maybe it’s giving you problems because it’s the beta model, I’m going to waiting a few more iterations down the line
Ya I’d stay away from pandemic era built vehicles. We ran into issues getting just clothing and hats etc, just think about the shit they couldn’t get and had to cheap out on. I’ll rock my 2014 platinum until it falls apart. Oh ya “Murdock, I’m coming to get you!”
Lol, I really appreciate your take on this truck. There are so many Toyota fanboy channels that talk about this truck like it’s the second coming of Jesus Christ. I have a 21 pro, while there is no way in shit I’d consider a new vehicle in this market it’s hard for me to look ahead and want a tundra again. FWIW I also had a lead foot 20 raptor. Biggest “vehicle mistake” ever was getting rid of that for this tundra lol. I just lie to myself and say there are more important things to worry about.
Haha my 2014 Hyundai Veloster had push start my 2021 tundra sr5 does not and it bugs me to know why lol. But anyways I prefer the 2021 over the 22 especially with all ur going through
