It sure was great doing the Gospels in January! I received a CSB Handcrafted Verse by Verse Bible which I will now be using for my chronological reading plan which I started last Nov. I will continue to use my new ESV Men’s Study Bible for the rest of my book studies. I purchased a NKJV Study Bible last year that I haven’t really used so I am going to use that as a companion with the book studies. I will start those in March and will go for 44 weeks! Each study is 12 weeks!
Sorry to hear you were sick! Hope you are on the upswing now. I don't have a formal reading plan. But I recently caved and bought the ESV Chronological Bible. I was already well into the Old Testament in my regular Bible reading. (From last year.) I figured it would confuse me/break the flow if I started from the beginning. I decided to start with the New Testament. Once I am done with that, I may pause until I finish the OT in my regular Bible, then start over in the Chronological. (Maybe I do have a plan, LOL! I hadn't officially thought it through/written it out until now.) I've had an unexpectedly cool experience so far with this format. In the gospels, many accounts are repeated by the four authors, with slight variations/or things emphasized. The way this is laid out, these accounts are one after the other. I admit it takes a little getting used to because you're reading the same thing several times. Once you adjust, it's okay. But you not only get to see similar events from each gospel writer's point of view, you really feel the different writing style of each person in a way you may not when you read each gospel separately. It actually makes for a less smooth reading experience because you are constantly switching between Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John's individual writing styles. Matthew is a little more formal. Mark seems always in a breathless hurry from one event to the next. Luke is so detailed and precise, like you would expect a doctor would be. And John is always kind of doing his own thing, more focused on the divine/spiritual aspects. And yet this collection of 66 books written by so many different people, in different areas, from different backgrounds, during different time periods, is entirely consistent from beginning to end! Not just these four writers of the gospels, but all the writers, of the entire thing! That is amazing. It's humanly impossible. Hey, atheists, tell me again how this book is NOT of divine origin! Thank you for your dedication to God's Word. It's an encouragement and a motivation.
Yeah, the format of the Harmony plan was not the smoothest. I agree with you. I probably wouldn't read through the Gospels that way again. Like I mentioned in my video, my preference is to go book by book.
Glad you’re back up and back on track. I would like to follow along with your reading plan but for the third year in a row I am doing the one yr journal “The Increae” put out by Pro Athletes Outreach”….a friend of mine put it together several years ago. But I do like your idea of reading plans and may try to join you in your six month reading. One of my issues/problems is I have a tendency to simply read for the sake of enjoying to read vs thinking through and meditating on what I’m reading and trying to hear what God is saying to me! I have to be careful with that tendency!! Do you have that issue at all?
Hey Joe! My reading plan journal plans have fallen through, so I think I’m going try your 6 month plan. Will you be doing updates and discussions as you go? Also, if I have a question or something to run by you, is this the best way or is email better for you?
