I love the omega too. Think it is my ‘one’ textblock. How do you like the Horween after wearing in some? Also, when you do those fast readings, are you marking/hightlighting at all? Or not marking so that you can go faster?
I LOVE my Horween Omega and have read through it twice, 2023 and 2024. Perhaps I should read it again in 2025?? There are some marks on the Horween and a lot of highlighting, underlining, and notes. So needless to say when I do even quicker readings I make markings and notations. It's the best way for me to stay engaged.
Awesome. I'm going to read LSB in the morning, ESV mid day because I primarily use ESV and I will have it with me. Then NKJV at night. This seems like a good balance. Thanks for the encouragement. I sometimes just need a plan to stick to.
That’s definitely something I have never been able to do is power read through the Bible. I feel that there’s so much to take in and so much to miss when power reading. I am 67% done with the CSB chronological plan. Will be done in Nov. Then the NKJV is next for the one year plan.
Like you, I read the Bible twice in Jan. - June using the Navigators' plan. I will slow down and read it once more in July - Dec. I'm reading mostly NASB95 and RSV. Thanks for the encouragement!
I don't mind waiting for your videos. They're worthwhile when they appear 😄 The Cambridge Topaz is a great typesetting. I wish I could get one, but the new NASB edition.
I always appreciate your enthusiasm for God's Word. I've been going through the ESV Chronological, the NT, first. I had already started an OT read before buying this Bible. I figured it would just be confusing if I started over. Once I am done with the NT and if I'm done with the OT, (starting Ezekiel soon), then I will start with Genesis in the Chronological. I am hoping this format will be helpful in my understanding of the "big picture" narrative. Enjoy your reading!
I've never paid much attention to Bible layouts. All I cared about was being able to see the font. Like everyone, now that I'm getting older, it's becoming more of an issue. But recently, I discovered the wonder that is single column, black letter, and 9 point font. Especially with the red v. black letter, the black is SO much easier on my eyes! I don't think I even knew they existed until Booktube came along. Now that I've tried one, I'm never going back! I'm in the process of donating/switching out. The downside is I have my beloved ESV Compact Large Print (8 pt) that is red letter. If I could find that in black letter, it would be perfect. 8 pt is not super for long reading, but I can still see it pretty well for shorter sessions like church, Bible study, and if I'm out and about. Alas, it does not exist. I bought the ESV Personal Reference which is also 8 point, but the line matching makes a difference! It's single column, which is great. But the physical size is significantly bigger than the Compact, so I'm debating whether to return or donate it.
Hey Joe! Those are good goals you've set for yourself, and beautiful Bibles you've finished. This year, so far, I'm on track to read through my CSB VERSE BY VERSE WIDE-MARGIN chronologically in a year with my church; I read through the Lexham English Septuagint, which includes the Apocrypha, in the first half of the year. I'm currently doing a 90-day read through of the KJV. And will probably end the year with a 90-day read through of the CSB.
@joesbibles5636 I did. I have mixed feelings about the Apocrypha. I don't think the Apocryphal books are scripture, but I do think they were quite helpful to read. For instance, the books Macabees 1-4 are helpful in understanding the NT Jesus was born into. At least, I thought so.
I like the style of this bible, it's amazing, I'm going to buy one, it's very easy to carry anywhere, not heavy, very comfortable. 😊❤, thanks brot for showing this video.
Schyuler makes a good bible for sure. Love the Canterbury for reading but for study, nothing beats the RL Allan 5WM. The space, layout and paper are unmatched- even from the Schyuler.
The one verse that really puts me off the CSB is “I will dwell in the house of the LORD as long as I live.” Psalm 23:6. I'd hate to go to seen someone on their deathbed and read the Shepherd Psalm to comfort them and have the reading end on a hope that seems to be limited to this life, especially if it was someone who was expecting to hear “I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:6. I know that the Hebrew in that verse can bear both interpretations and both are good, accurate translations, so why didn't the CSB translators keep it as an eternal hope if it is merely a choice?
@@wendydune18 The CBS translates the Psalms as prose, not as poetry. They then break up the lines on the page and arrange the sentences to make it look like poetry, but poetry it 'aint. I like the NJKV & ESV psalms as there's a sense of rhythm and poetry to them. The CSB even manages to make the NIV psalms seem poetic in comparison. I'm trying really hard to like the CSB and I'm going to stick with it for a while, but I keep having a feeling that it is a clear and reliable translation but it is not a good translation simply because the English style is so incredibly dull.
Even though I too prefer the term flesh in Gal. 2:20, "body" is a good word to bring the actual meaning of that verse into English. In Gal. 2:20 Paul is not talking about the sinful flesh that cannot please God no matter what (Rom. 8:5-8). We know this because in Gal. 2:20, Paul is in his flesh living by faith, which cannot be done if he means the other term. That is contradictory. "Body" is a good translation. Then, if you jump down to Gal. 3:3, it uses the term "flesh" in that correct sinful, evil, wicked human effort manner, which is apart from faith. So, I dont actually mind that CSB translation of Gal. 2:20. Still, I will stick with my NAS95.
The CSB translation, has gradually become my personal reader Bible for studying. It has also become a version of the Bible, that enables me to grow deeper in my Christian way of life due to its readability. I believe that it’s written in such way that it feeds my FAITH in Jesus Christ.
For over $200 I'd expect a bit more: No French paper, Not Jongbloed, only 2 ribbons... This lacks too much for the "premium" high price they set it at.
I hear ya. But did you know that you can get the same text block for $45? It just won't have the goatskin. The imitation leather block is good bang for your buck.
One thing that annoys me beyond words is when the pages have subject headings embedded in the text. Nelson’s NKJV and Holman’a CSB are two of the most egregious examples of editorial subject headings (sometimes 4-5 per page) interrupting the flow of the narrative. No matter how much I may respect and desire to use a Bible, those unnecessary distractions will assure that edition will collect the very dust from which we’re made.
Both the NKJV and CSB have reader’s editions of their translations that eliminate subject headings. Look for those editions. The ESV and NIV also have reader’s edition.

I want to like the CSB, but I'm really put off by the translation team's choice with the second half of Genesis 1:5 CSB: There was an evening, and there was a morning: one day. Compare it to the NIV, ESV and NLT all below: NIV: And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day. ESV: And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. NLT: And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day. Notice the CSB refers to it as simply "one day" rather than "the first day". This could suggest the translation team do not have faith in the first day being exactly that - the first one. They may side with the secular idea of billions of years and then some kind of "recreation". They may not, of course, but the translation choice is very dubious. They go on to correctly translate the remaining days of creation as "the second day", "the third day", etc, but that "one day" translation is really jarring. While I'd really like to give the CSB more attention, a bible that makes such a big blunder so quickly doesn't fill me with much confidence.
I switched to the CSB a few months ago. I love it because it's more literal than the NIV I used to use, but more readable than strictly literal versions like the ESV as well.
I've read way too many translations that i muddied myself up. The KJV NIV NKJV NASB NLT Douay ASV GNT RSV/2CE NRSV NCathB NABRE HCSB Geneva. I was frustrated to the point where i almost backed away from spending time in scripture. RSV2CE I cannot deny was a great translation.... at the time. The only people to give me the time of day was Episcopal church.... love them for that but I couldn't get on board with what they stood for. Wife nudged me in a Catholic direction. Love them for what they are and the reverence, but it was turning me into a monster. Had numerous discrepancies in what I understood and was reading through scripture and even what the doctors of the church had to say especially in the first 7-800 years of the church. Took a break for a couple weeks. Found a little Evangelical church in a neighboring state after watching a bunch of Matt Whitman videos on churches and OMG I felt at home. I sorely desired and needed some middle ground here with Bible translation. I loved clear readability but was strong on literalness. In comes the CSB. The plainness of what I'm reading balanced with a solid literal feel made this the obvious choice. This is THE centrist Bible translation. Not too NKJV but not too NIV. It is now my everyday reader and the ESV which reads very very close to the RSV2CE since it is derived from the same basis without the heavy Catholic influence which I desperately needed to separate myself from is what I use for deep dive study. My absolute favorite translations. I'm so glad you pointed these things out as it's an honest and transparent view of this Bible translation. Thank you for this video.
When I got saved, I was reading out of the NLT but as I started to read more frequently I was desiring a translation that was closer to a formal translation, but read smoothly. So I checked out the CSB and have been hooked since and have quickly made it my preferred translation.
A few months after Salvation, I was reading The Bible, 5 to 6 hours Everyday . The same Bible. It's not going to be to helpful reading a bunch of different Bibles. Don't read Commentaries, other books, or listen to TV or Internet Preachers. I use a Thompson Chain Reference Bible, KJV, a Strong's Concordance and a Dictionary . I don't know I was reading The Bible about 2 times a month. Doing a read The Bible in a Year plan is Not a Good Idea.
I've been a lifelong user of the NKJV and still use it as my main translation when I teach, but I think the CSB is my favorite. It totally reminds me of the NIV84 like you mentioned and for the same reason you mentioned. It was the first bible I had. Anyways...count me among the unashamed CSB fanboi club.

Hi Joe, it was good to hear part of your bible reading testimony today, and also how you have encouraged others to dig deep into the word of God. A couple of things from my bible reading: one is that I started hand writing the bible in a NKJV journal the word hardcover using a .3 super fine blue ink pen. I write super tiny! Secondly, I took up a challenge not so long ago to read the entire bible in a month, so I did it in 21 days! It was definitely speed reading and I did it in the single column Schuyler Treveris KJV using a 6” ruler to go line by line. It is amazing how much the brain retains even doing this. I am someone who does love the word and reads every day, plus am doing a daily reading plan for the ESV online this year for the first time while reading my NASB Schuyler Quentel in my hand as well. I was saved in ‘17 and have always been hungry for the word, praise the Lord. Both these things are on my channel, the speed reading in 21 days and writing the bible. @@joesbibles5636 Yes, Joe, actually am reading it currently alongside the NASB Schuyler Quentel black pearl calfskin, f/y which has to be my very last bible purchase! NASB is new to me and I love it! It is very KJV in many respects,too, since I have been comparing bible translations with IT. MY Turquoise is NKJV, so am revisiting that in the evening with the NASB in the daytime. Thanks for having a look at some of my vids, too. I really need to add the NASB review soon after having it 2 months so far. 😀📖💟✝️
Your journey kinda sounds like mine. Around 2019 I decided to get serious about reading the whole Bible consistently. It was just a cheap $25 CSB, and by the time I was reading thru twice a year, the cover was ruined. That’s when I discovered RU-vid’s premium Bible reviewers… 😂 My first Quentel was *such* a joy to read that I soon added an evening session, and then decided I needed to read thru some other translations. So… NASB Quentel, and the ESV, and NKJV. 😂 I’m now on my second year of reading a different translation every three months, and it’s just such a joy. I find I now remember stuff I would forget when I was just reading once per year… it was being reinforced more often and “sticking” better.
