Can't fault your Catcher pick, should be interesting to see how it plays out between Rutschman and Perez. Witt vs Henderson another tight battle. Can we give a shout out to Ryan O'Hearn in the DH spot. The dude is having a great year, and has hit some clutch hits. If his OPS was a little higher, maybe a few more plate appearances he would of been in your convo, but I feel you overlooked him a bit.
I think you are right in the Semien over Altuve pick bc Semien is a great defender and Altuve is a minus defender at this point in his career. However, Altuve does have him beat by a significant margin on the offensive side of things which is all most voters care about so he prob has the real edge at the position. Now Gunnar over Bobby Witt? No way. Witt should be the front runner for mvp.
It looks like a coverup. It’s fine. Whatevs but make no mistake about how guilty people think he is 90% of these dudes would flip to believing he was completely innocent if it meant he was going to play for their team. That’s how it works.

Jim, last year you slighted Will Smith as 2nd best against JT. Another time on pop speed, if I remember correctly. You edged him out last year also. Pop and offense is better this year. //this year Smith has the best WRC+. For Smith's career, there is no better consistent year-over-year offensive catcher. Earlier this year Smith was batting over .400. Yet, once again you bypass him. I can't wait to hear you reason to by- pass Smith up next year for a third time in a row. What do you have against Smith? Did he not sign a ball for you as a kid or something (This is why another podcaster doesn't like a player)? Other than that, we are just about the same as I voted on or the 2nd so in-out. I too did Vladi, so good choice, not favoritism.
You know what crazy, Bobby is literally better than Gunnar at everything except for home runs in which Gunnar has been incredibly lucky and Bobby has been incredibly unlucky.
That’s the only pick I didn’t like of his. Witt has been way better defensively to this point also. I feel like he’s the front runner for mvp. No I’m not a royals fan. It blew my mind that he chose GH so quickly.
Witt is the front runner for mvp in my opinion. Not the Gunnar isn’t having a phenomenal year but that pick makes no sense to me. Both are good defensively. Witt though has had the much better season so far there. I couldn’t believe he picked him that quick.
@@1TightMinute Yeah, Witt has better defensive metrics, Gunnar has better offensive numbers, Witt has more stolen bases, but he's also been thrown out 7 times to Gunnar's 0. It's close. Gunnar has more BWAR, but Witt has ore FWAR. It's about as close as it can be right now. We'll just have to see if one of them can separate themselves from the other. It may just come down to overall team success as the tie breaker.
Ohtani over Ozuna?! This is your only miss Jim. Seriously, great ballot. I like your picks except NL DH. Unfortunately, the voting is a popularity contest and Ohtani will get it.😊
Im sorry he hasn’t. I’m not going to take the time to list all his stats but he has him beat overall. There batting metrics are very close. Where Ohtani has him totally dominated is in his base running metrics. Huge difference. Way too big to ignore. Ohtanis war to this point is 3. ozuna is 2.3. Both are DH only.
@@1TightMinute Ohtani may have him beat on the bases, Ozuna's power numbers are better and has more RBIs. Ohtani will be voted in. It’s a popularity contest. Ozuna will be there too. Unlike Ohtani Ozuna can play the outfield as he did until the NL adopted the DH.
@@gregdiamond6023 the position is DH. Being ably to play the field doesn’t matter and shouldn’t. As of this moment, Ozuna has him slightly edged on the batting side but it’s not a dominant edge. The base running is the difference.
@@1TightMinute You and I both know the majority of voters won’t care about the stats. They won’t be considered. Were it voting based on stats it would be a close race. It’s a popularly contest. When all is said and done, both will be on the team.
Who out of those three do you think he is better than? Just curious. Those are three guys in the mvp convo. I’m not going to take the time to lost all the stats but Tucker (who is prob the weakest link) has him beat in every offensive categories except batting average and the difference there is only 0.06 points plus he’s played gold glove caliber defense. Tuckers war to this point 3.6. rooker’s 1.7. Tucker has literally been over 2 times better. I’m not even sure Rooker is even in the talks for the fourth best OF. Off the top of my head Greene, Varsho, and Duran have all had better seasons or at least arguably better.
Ohtanis stats are better than ozunas. Their pure hitting metrics are essentially the same. Where ohtani crushes ozuna is his ability on the basepaths. Those metrics aren’t even close. Hands down ohtani is better.
@@Jake-ry9wt he doesn’t have a dominant lead in anything other RBIs 62 to 47. But SO has way more RS and SB. Everything else is a slight lead. HR 20 to 19. slugging .611 to .601. OPS 1.003 to 9.88. OPS+ 180 to 178. BA .321 to .314. I hold by my original statement that their base offensive numbers are essentially the same and SO ability on the basepaths is the difference between the two. This can be reflected in their war so far for the season also. SO 3.8. MO 2.7. SO has been a full win better and he hasn’t seen the field on defense.
@@Jake-ry9wt now the “dominant” lead has shifted over to SO. SO now leads MO in every category except RBIs but that lead has shrunk to 57-64. SO lead isn’t dominant either. I still contest they are the same player at the plate based off of pure hitting metrics even though SO numbers are now slightly better. However, the SB and the RS with SO general ability on the basepaths is the difference between the two, SO current war is 4.4. MO is 2.8.
