This is the cleanest wiring job I’ve ever seen! Nice job on the internals. There’s a lot going on inside one of these cabs and it can get cluttered fast. You win the internet today. Nice job. ❤
Great looking table! People make their cabinets with 5-6" front lock bar so you don't have to hurt your neck looking straight down playing the table. Your neck is more at an angle and way less sore.
She's beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing I'm just getting my build going and seeing finished cabs has been my biggest source of motivation lately😂
I never comment, but feel compelled to in this case. This an excellent video on a very thorough, high quality virtual pinball build. The reason I had to comment: I decided to click a link in the description as the channel owner has written 3 books available for sale on Amazon. I clicked expecting something typical like "How to Program Python" or other software design engineering... Imagine my surprise when the first link I clicked took me to a bench guide guide for rebuilding the very popular and ubiquitous 4L80E GM heavy duty Transmission! Sir, you are an inspirational modern renaissance man and my personal hero. Not only am I fascinated by DIY virtual pinball, but I've also rebuilt several 4L80Es - it's nice to know there are others with that weird sort of combination of interests. Thank you, and Cheers!
Always awesome to see quality craftmanship and attention to detail. We built a custom PFX3 unit for my 87 year old mother several years ago and she loves it. Your work reminded me of our machine... impressive! If you can, look into adding automotive solenoids to your unit. They add so much realism to the bumpers and flippers. We also added a small shaker motor, which if you like that sub rattling everything you would probably like as well. Anyway, just had to tell you great job on the build... looks amazing.
Really nice build. Only thing missing are the contactors! I built a 27" mini pin several years ago and am thinking of making a full size table. It was great to see your layout.
Very cool. About to start my build - thanks for the tour. Hate MDF. Going with a nice multi-ply (Europly or similar). I've been building furniture and such for some years now and that has steered me toward the high end plywood, away from MDF.
I added 2 switch with the little metal arm to my coins and you push the coin for credit and works awesome, looks more realistic and it was very easy to do it Just a suggestion It looks great, i builded mine also and i added every single toy from a real table also, all my friends get impressed with it
Looks super good. Currently in the acquisition phase of my build, and I'll definitely be stealing a few of your ideas like how you did the back box. Also, thanks for the amazon links.
this looks fantastic, I'm just getting into virtual pinball now, and wanting to build one myself. projects like this are so difficult to effectively balance budget correctly, you did a great job.
@@GearheadDaily yeah I just bought a pretty run-down empty Recel Crazy Race cabinet from a marketplace for 50 €. Since I'm more a tech guy than a carpenter, this should bring me a big step forward. Now I try to refurbish, repaint and build a virtual pinball into it.
you should do more videos on the contruction part, as one may say its tough, and we need more videos on that subject ;) build a cabinet on video please ;) @@GearheadDaily
really happy if you even considder ;) so much wanna build my own but its tough to start out so much detail to take into considderations :D @@GearheadDaily
Nice. I'm in the process of building my VP. It has been my goal to be as budget as possible. So it's taken time to source parts. Some part I made from scratch & some from thrifting. It's a full table size and I'm about 3/4 done. So far I am bellow the $500 threshold. It even has 3 screens. I'm just checking out other VP so what what I like cosmetically :)
Love your build! I hope you could answer just a couple questions - Where did you find your black hardware? (Did you paint the stainless yourself?) I found black legs, but not black side strips, and lock bar. Like you, I also would like eliminate a large front apron. No one gives measurements to do this? What is your total side panel length (front to back) ? Did you shorten the side panel height to retain proportions? If yes, what is the side panel height, front and back?
I noticed your choice in DMD. I was planning on using a laptop lcd panel and controller board. However, the price of your dmd is about the same with no need to mess around. My only question: I noticed that dmd screen has a power button. Did you run into any issues with needing to switch the dmd back on? Obviously with a cab you have a master power switch that kills all cab power. I assume the dmd will just power on without need to press that now inaccessible button, right?
Very nice job. I am getting ideas on my build. I am planning to possibly go with a 49 inch tv. I hear that any ol 4k tv wont give a great looking playfield. Which tv do you guys recommed?
Great build! I went with a 4:1 14.9" DMD though as most games except for very modern ones use that and to me a full DMD just looks too busy and distracting but to each their own. I like my stuff very authentic though, for example I have a 26" CRT Wells Gardner in my MAME cabinet.
@@GearheadDaily Yeah I get that. I rather it be more authentic though. 95%+ of all games with DMD's were built with a 4:1 DMD. Also PUP Packs decrease performance on many tables and even crash them. Just too many reasons for me to not go 16:9 15.6" now. Maybe later and I move my 4:1 as high score topper but I am liking like it is. I put a 3M monitor privacy filter over my LCD DMD to make it look darker and more authentic. Looks like a real DMD for quarter of the price.
Cool to see you use a OLED monitor. In my experience LG OLED's tend to turn down the brightness slowly over time if a image is static. How are your experiences using the OLED playfield? And what LED brightness settings are you running? 100%?
Really nice build! How are you planning around the sensor notch on the bottom of the C2 monitor? Are you going to remove it (cut it off) or hide it with something like LED side lights?
That's a great build!! I'm on the early stages of building one, and I've got the same LG C2. How much did you cut the length from the original plans of the Williams widebody? I don't want also a big gap on the top...
I cut about 6" from the main overall length. Compared to a real pinball, it looks very very close to the real thing. I kept it wide because I might want a bigger screen some day.
Great build! Really want something like this, but debating prebuilt vs building myself. Is there much of a saving building yourself? I’ve seen top end pre-builds at around 8 to 9 grand. My DIY skills aren’t great, but I’m sure I could do something like this. If you dont mind divulging, what was your total build cost?
Great video. I saw where you explained the power and how it works with the slave outlets, but I missed how you turn on the entire system. Is there a power button that powers the entire thing on and off?
I like how you shortened the cab to avoid having a skirt above the lockdown bar, how did you deal with the rails being shorter than standard? Did you just trim them up by the backbox?
I really like your build, basically a lot like I plan on building mine, hopefully within the next few months. Did you build the cab from scratch or get it somewhere? Personally, as great as the OLEDs look, I don't want to worry about burn in so I'm looking for a good 4k 120hz LCD panel but not a lot of good options out there at 42/43", at least for a reasonable price.
I often wonder if it is worth the "finished" look to have that glass back on top of the gorgeous monitor playfield. Seeing this, I am rethinking keeping the glass and just letting the monitor / tv be the top and not have any reflections.
That's a 32 inch monitor? Can I ask what the width/height of your backbox is? I'm Currently working on a cab build myself. Would also be curious to know how many inches you took off of the cabinet length as I love how clean that looks!
Are you rocking a 42" playfield monitor? Thinking if I should mount my 42" against the lock down bar or have a generic apron and crop just under the drain to use the screen more for play area. Any pointers?
where did you get the lockdown bars and side rails? what are the outside dimensions of your cabinet? Reason I ask is for the sake fo the lockdown bar. Thanks
I can only imagine how much “flack” you got for building the cab out of melamine. But as you stated you get super flat sides for art with 0 painting…and I’m sure it’s beyond sturdy. Can you talk for a few about screws and fasteners? Everything I’ve read says typical wood screws can pull out of MDF / melamine super easy. Did you have any issues?
Hah, ya I got a little hard times but the integrity really isn't that much better/worse than plywood. Its a tad heavier over all, but this was the best material for the job. I generally don't use screws to build cabinets carcasses, some I will for backs or to hold stuff in place, but generally just glue and nail gun to hold things while I put it together. That said, they do make a melamine specific screw that you can use and I've heard decent results, but honestly, just dado and rabbet the whole thing like i did and its going to be strong with just glue.
Hello my friend, I too, have built a virtual pinball box and purchased the three monitors, computer and all peripheral’s but have been stopped at the software installation. I’m a custom cabinet maker, and I have a box as nice as yours and will rival any new pinball machine that you see out there but it’s unusable to me because I can’t install the software. Can you point me in a direction or help me out?
I meant the physics of the ball dropping on the flipper at the precise moment of release to create the stalling of the ball on the flipper. It’s that level of detail that kills the Vpin’s for me. Albeit they are getting SO close!!! This is a very impressive build. Good job! I’m hoping 120hz+ can remove that natural brain barrier between real and virtual nitpicks of mine :)
@@thebandlounge It's pretty close and live catches are pretty easy, but its the microflips that aren't there yet. I can't bump a ball very well even with leaf switches
Hardware isn’t my strong point. So to my understanding if higher the refresh rate, the more lifelike timing the ball will have when it contacts the flippers? Whereas my 60hz, although it’s not horrible, it’s obviously noticeable that the direction I hit the ball isn’t exactly the direction I hit the ball)
