Thanks Dave! I know it was not your intention, but I love the fact that you show how the same essential knife qualities can be found across a pretty wide price range. Anybody can get in where they fit in.

I laughed because we have almost the same exact lanyard on our Bushcraft-UK, a short "Fire" motif snake weave! We think so much alike & that's why I like your videos so much.
@HighCarbonSteelLove

Great minds think alike, Dano! Those type of weaves work best for knife lanyards, as I only use lanyards to prevent me from losing the knife if I drop it..lol! I really enjoy having you here, my friend! -Dave

Absolutely agree about the Moras. I’ve have a couple higher-end blades, but if I’m heading out into the wild, a Mora is definitely coming along for the ride. When it comes to functionality, durability and price, they just can’t be beat. It’s funny: I’ll spend $200 to $300 on a knife, go into the woods, and realize I’ve been using my $15 Mora Companion 90% of the time! LOL About the Mora sheath: they’re pretty infamous for loosing retention with frequent use. The lanyard is a great idea, but I prefer to not use one. My solution: I wrapped a single layer of #36 bank line around the handle. Originally, I did this just to have a bit extra bank line in case of emergency. However, when I sheathed the knife, the bank line added just enough bulk and friction that the knife stays firmly in the sheath. I couldn’t shake it out if I tried....and I did. LOL....I was about to drop $30 on a Kydex sheath, but now it functions perfectly. Not knocking you’re solution at all, just thought I’d offer another very effective method for more options. 👍

Your Mora classic looks much like my Frost 612 with its half finger guard, a favorite from my youth. My 6 1/2" Old Hickory (with some mods) and my grandpas J Russell (very Mora-esque) round out my favorite three. Recently I got a Orange Mora Companion for my 24 hour Civil Air Patrol SAR pack. A new favorite now days to take out in the forest. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Greg

Great choices brother. I will also always love and have a Mora. About 3 years ago I got a Condor Rodan to try out but never seem to take out, lol. It's beefy and should do the trick but I never seem to run into a situation that either my mora or my cane knife won't handle. Great vid brother
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 8 лет назад
+John “survivor johnny” Tewelow Thank you, brother! Your Rodan situation is similar to me and my Condor Woodlaw. While it's a decent knife, I have never preferred it over a Mora and don't bring it out nearly as much as my other knives. It's also beefy and will do the trick but just isn't the same pleasure to use as my Moras. Great to hear from you, my friend! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave

+ThunderMountain Tactical Thank you for the kind words, my friend! One of the reasons I love Morakniv is that they are so affordable and such high quality! You can also use a ranger band as a retention device on your Mora Companion instead of the setup you're using now. I like the ranger band because it has a low profile and isn't affected by water. Just an idea. I love your channel, btw.

Good video. The Mora Classic 2 was my first bushcraft knife. So I definitely understand the sentimentality of a first bushcraft knife. But I'm one of those weird guys that has an emotional attachment with all of my tools. Bit it's hard to beat the Classic 2. It's just a Plaine Jane knife. Simple and effective. A joy to use. I love mine dearly. Plus bonus, you making this video reminds me I need to touch up the edge on mine. ha ha ha Keep up the work, it's very appreciated.

Nope, you haven't missed anything, John! While I know that its a solid knife, and it may sound crazy, but I have a hard time spending that much money on a Mora knife. Hi Dave great knives all but that spydie bush crafting knife is eye candy and the sheath design is excellent above average for function i think- also i managed to swap my way up to a Bark river highland hunter in A2 steel 4 inch blade full convex traded it for an Essee 4 which I purchased used at a gun show for 80 Canadian -it had serrations and a sharpened clip point and those are not my thing but my buddy who had the Bark River( 1 among many) loved it --Cheers Dave

Dave, It's nice to meet you, My name is Paul, but my friends calle'me Paul'ie, I like it better than Pauley. I don't know what got into me. My knife addiction got the best of me again. I got the new Mora 510 which I like a thinner blade on a knife like that. I also got the Classic #1 Then a Kit caught my eye and was right up my alley for a ultra lite Trio. I got a Mora 2000 and the Mora Hatchet but I got the Olive Green and I also got a Bacho Laplander to Booth even though the Bacho is also available in the Orange too. But because I got the Olive Green which I knew woukd natch more of my other knives, and I was right, my Bokor Plus Black Vox Rold will match and even the pouch on my Victorninox Delemont Collection Ranger Grip 78 has a green pouch and another match. It was nice, we got to do this again.

Say Heah Dave, Yup I put my Ranger Afghan and my Ranger RD-9 to rest for a while. They did OK, I had fun with using them. But this week I brought out my Battle Horse Modified Attitude and my Modified Mad Hatter Machete a lovely piece of kit. I also brought my Mora 510 as my neck knife which has the same blade as the Classic #1. Yeah I finally got my Modde Mad Hatter Machete just right. First I had a matching handle made to match with my Modde Attitude. I also had the spine rounded except a area to strike a ferro rod so I had a 90° area put on. I then had the sweet spot and towards the tip convexed with a nice area for the scandi grind I had them put on by the handle so I can actually use my Modde Mad Hatter Machete as a large knife and not only a Machete. But as it is, it's still one of my Summer Long Knives and a very good one, It's also made in L6. Originally I had my Modde Attitude made to team with my Smaller White Bone Handle M-43 Khukuri. But now it's also a near perfect match with my Modde Mad Hatter Machete. Seriously Dave it's a awesome combo. I literally could zip boom bomb through the brambles. Well if their not that thick just enough to get through, What else do I need right. Yeah, the way my Modde Attitude came out I think it L@@Ks similar to a Woodlore on steroids I know I could survive with it. I know it could stand up to my Ranger Afghan and my Ranger T. F. I. (Tactical Force Infidel) and my BK-2. It's only the White G-10 Handles with Blue Liners that make it people friendly. It's one tough knife. I had the knife Slightly Curved and I had them put a High Scandi Grind on it which makes it a thin apex so it slices like a dream. Mors Kochansky wrote in one of his books that a knife should be able to slice wood smooth that you don't need to sand it. Well in the right hands my High Scandi Grind can do it. Oh, I also had the Drop Point Lowered. actually it's a little off center of the line which actually allows me not only to be able to push off with my thumb better but making divers better and even carving holes. Yeah'sur it's just what I wanted, a Bushcraft Survival Knife plus its also a beautiful matching combo. As always Dave you did good sharing some of your Fav's Knives.,,. p

Say Heah Dave, about three weekends ago, I teamed my vintage Mora Clipper MG. It really worked great together with my Fox Bushcraft Parang, I wore it side by side clipped to my Survival Belt and it was so lite that I didn't know it was there. But It made feathers to start our fire and the Bushcraft Parang took care of making kindling so yeah, They complimented eachother. As you know, I attached my Mora Classic #1 on that loose handle strap that I put on my Bokor Black Vox Sheath when I put on a nylon belt loop, Yeah, Actually its one of my Fav. Lite Rigs. Yeah very Lite. I always liked to have a Spydrrco Bushcraft Knife. But I just got a Bushcraft Knife worth mentioning too. I got a 3V LT Weight GNS (Go No Show) Don't ask, I don't know what that means either. But mine came out about 4 3/8" blade, which I'm very happy about. I like a flat blade because I don't like knives to twist in my hand when I'm carving sort out like hockey sticks being flat and not round, I have sort of that same control. So, Yeah, I got a new pattern that LT is offerering. I got the Coyote Black Mountain instead if the Grey Black Mountain, Yeah, Check it out and tell me what you think. I got it on Friday So I took it out a bit on Saturday, and Yesterday Sunday. It's fantastic, Its a 1/8" thickness and I got the Saber Grind because its thin, and I put a convex edge on it already and its perfect, Yeah, check it out and tell me what you think.,,. www.knivesshipfree.com/l-t-wright-knives-gns-3v-saber-grind-coyote-black-mountain-g-10/

Say Heah Dave, Great Job starting that fire, No matter how many times I see this video, I like watching that part. Anyhow, I have a Rod Garcia Skookum Bush Tool, The story, Straight from the horses mouth, Rod took some classes from Mors Kochansky, They started talking and Mors was using a Mora Classic #1 at the time, So when Rod asked Mors what style Mors likes, He said "Like This", Hence the Skookum Bush Tool was born, When he brought back the knife to to the class Mors, He approved and said who made this knife that meets my criteria and the knife I discussed in my book, The rest is history. Not because of Mom's approval, But my Skookum Bush Tool, I don't ever think I grow old of it, It's one of my Fav's in the top 3. Great job as usual, Laterz. ,, .

Yeah, I really enjoy watching your videos, Great work. Oh, my other knives right up as being my Fav's are my Busse Combat Son of Badger, my John Bradley's World Finest Camp Knife, Yeah that's the name, If you look at Bradley's gallery, on phone. 9 the second one is my knife. He made some for some famous people like a General Swarzcroft , I think that's how you spell the General's name, Then I have a G. E. K. made by a patient of mine, (R. I. P.) George K. made me a custom, It's almost a 4" blade out of a saw, it's 3/16" thick and has a Choil on a Woodlore pattern, A Beauty. I wish I would ordered two, because I'm afraid of losing it. It's defenetly a Fav. Yeah, The Skookum Bush Tool is up there too. Great video. Thanx You. ,, .

So far I only own one Mora, in my battery of knives, the LMF version. I like having the included ferro rod and the thinner blade profile. Smart. But I must try to pick one more Mora. Hard choices there but of course it will be a thicker blade to go with the LMF blade.
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 8 лет назад
+Charles Larson The LMF is an excellent knife, Charles! I love it! The tapered edge is excellent and the included fire steel is great. The Mora HQ Robust is one of my favorites. Say Heah Dave, I found out the difference between the Mora Clipper and the Mora Companion. The Companion has a narrow tang that's longer and the Clipper has a robust tang but shorter. The infact they put hard plastic on the handle to make the knives stronger than what you think. Infact when I got my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife at first I teamed it with my vintage Frost Mora MG 840 Clipper since they color matched, Then I tried it with my Mora 2000 and I really liked it better because of tge dual grind on the 2000 but the 2000 is a part of my Mora Trio with my Mora Hatchet and my Bacho Laplander so I got the Mora Kansbol and it hit pay dirt a lovely piece of kit color match and all, Both knives really compliment eachother. I also added the Mora Eldris as my neck knife and took them out on one of our weekend test trips and they performed fantastic. But than Houseboat Rob informed me that Fox also made a Combat Jungle Knife which is very similar with suttle differences the spine is fully jimped and the tip has more of a clip and it's a little longer than my Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife and its all black so I teamed it with my Cold Steel 3V Master Hunter and made another beautifuk combo. Oh I also Piggybacked my Mora Kansbol on the Sheath of my Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife and it came out beautiful. So today and the rest of the weekend I'll be using my Battle Horse Combo. Yeah'sur I know how good this set is I just wanted to use them this weekend.,,. p

Mora's are great, and if you lose one in the woods, you're only out $15. I bought a craft line Q for $8 a while back and it has taken a ton of abuse and it is still being used. I am more sentimental about that knife than I am with my more expensive knives. It's funny how that works.

Say Heah, Once again, Nice choices, I especially like that Spydie, Its only videos like this that I'm reminded of a Bushcraft knife that a friend made, Yeah, George K. (R.I.P.) He went by a GOLF.A.K.A.. Logo in sort of a diamond shape. But he made me a 4" and 3/16"+ out of a saw blade, It was a very sought after steel back then, What makes it so special other then George making it, It has a Choils, Man I can really choke up on it. and it holds a great edge retention. But the way he blended from that thick spine to a zero grind sort of looks like a hollow grind but its not. I checked it with a lense clock.I just worry it will grow legs and walk away, His knives are highly sought after with collectors. But yeah, its a in a Bushcraft true sence, its definitely a Bushcraft knife. a real good Carver. I also have others that I highly price like you do your Sydie. Say Heah, A while ago I bought a closeout price on a Frost Mora Clipper and the first impression was nothing to write home about..Then I found a sort of unique Mora at the pawn shop. The sheath is leather with a metal trim in great condition. It has 3 crowns with a big "A" embossed in the lather. The knife has a hand gaurd and the pommel is metal also in great condition. I think I have a nice stable of knives and some are hand made so the Mora's never rocked my boat. Until I used the Clipper, I started carrying as a neck knife because it's very comfortable. Just a few days ago after hearing how good the Mora 510 was, I decided to buy one. I browsed through the selection at BladeHQ and bought the Classic #1, Then I see the Mora 2000 and the Hatchet sold together but the Combo price was in the Orange color only. I bought the Olive Green pair since it will be easier to match with some of my other knives. Instead of a Bacho Laplander a while ago, I got the Wicked Tough Saw and no regrets, But since I want to make an ultra lite trio for my "Afternoon Delight" A hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato, I decided to get the Bacho Laplander even though it too comes in the Orange. As it turned out, yrah, my Bokor Plus Black Vox Rold fits right in the color scheme. I wish that was all, Surfing the web, I found a line of Mora's called the Exclusive and I seen one that called out my name so I bought the Forest # 277 it look's alot like the Classic but much nicer I think. Anyhow that's how my Mora stable grew, I plan to get that Garber Mira also with the full tang too. Thanx for a very good review.

After a couple days camping, my hand and wrist are super fatigued from the mora classic no2 from only light use. Not hot spots, just all the muscles in my hand and wrist are dead. is that a sign of too small a handle for folks with big hands? Say Heah David, Yeah, I know what you mean about your first. I also like thinner blades too and I'm glad my new Mora 510 has a thinner blade and I think identical blade as the Classic #1 if I would of known that I would of got the #2 because I really like the handle on my 510, But we found this patch of weeds with a unique 5 leaf pattern, Anyhow I love making a birds nest and firing that baby up, WoW when my head gets swallowed by that plume, The next thing I know I'm dreaming in color, and I and we all come out of it happy and laughing our heads off and then the munchies hits. Yeah both are made in 3V and the Smaller knife is 4 3/4" blade and 5/32" thick, the larger knife is 7 3/4" blade and 3/16" thick with William's type handles, I know they will work great in the Bush because I took alot of designs into consideration when I designed what I wanted. +bigmick812 Thats a great question. Of all the flint & steel fires I've done on video, I have never really shown my pieces of chert. I will definitely show it next time I make one. Primarily here in the northeast, chert and quartz are pretty easy to find. True flint is around in other areas but not a lot in my particular area. Other rocks will work, as long as they are harder than the carbon steel striker being used. I used to walk around with my U-shaped carbon steel striker and just pick up random rocks and tried to strike sparks. I eventually recognized what would work. Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave

+BOOTYMONSTER Great question, my friend! While I like the Mora 2000 very much, I prefer the carbon steel of the classic no 2 and companion. For the same money I can get a custom knife with better steel, better scales, and personalized ergonomics. Only the Spyderscon name lets this knife sell for more than eighty bucks, tops.
