Even with its faults, you can tell from that first video you already had the beginning of a really strong formula for your vids. I've been subscribed since the channel was much smaller, and what appealed to me was the honest, understated and deadpan commentary and absence of the typical nonsense from other channels that try to force humour where it isn't needed. I think you also found a great gap in the market. When I was looking for reviews for potential purchases, nearly every video was uploaded back when the car first hit the market, so it wasn't very useful for understanding where the market is right now, what they should cost in current money, and what alternatives are available that are both newer and older. Great to see the channel growing from strength to strength, and really glad your happier and less overworked because of it.

What a difference in 4 years, but honestly Matt, the step you've taken in the last couple of months has probably been the biggest. I stumbled across you when buying my wife a Q3, and finding this channel was the best thing about that car. Keep up the good work. You have come a long way in terms of the filming and sound quality, and your presentation is now far more confident and slick. What hasn't changed that much is the content because you nailed it from the outset. You provide all the info car buyers and those interestes in cars want - prices, how it drives, comfort, reliability, common problems, repair & running costs etc etc. Your dry humour and wry observations on life all add to the appeal. It's amazing to see how far you've come. I remember discovering you when I was looking for a good honest review of a Jaguar XJ (x358) as most online reviews were American lamenting reliability and playing on stereotypes. Thanks to you a bought a beautiful low milage XJ Sovereign, kept some money back for repairs and it's served me faultlessly since. I've really enjoyed all of your videos since and the way that you haven't moved away from your origins. Staying humble and grounded is so refreshing plus so authentic as we know your experiences are genuine from working in and continuing to work in the trade. I've watched the channel for ~3.5 years and the thing that attracted me was the "ordinaryness" of your reviews instead of excessive shouting and being a bit flash. Sure, the music was probably not a great idea, but hey you were new to this. You Tubers need to remember everyone has different tastes and some musical sounds can just grate depending on the watcher's ear; there was a spate of YT videos for a while with that whistling along to ukuleles - instant switch off for me. Don't be so hard on yourself, you got off your arse and made something we all enjoy. Here's to another 209k subbies.

This is a great case study for any aspiring RU-vidr : if you've got something interesting to show or say then just make the video with whatever equipment you already have ! If your content is informative and entertaining it will find an audience and then the tech skills , videography , presentational stuff will develop over time. You've clearly learned on the job , little bit unsure of yourself in this debut video but all the views and encouragement has spurred you on to what you produce now which is car journalism as good as anything elsewhere on the internet or on commercial channels. Nothing scripted or false, just plain old dreary ....then...Matt, having a go, and it is appreciated, cus you see, 99.9% of us would be just the same. Practice makes perfect as they say, so stop being so harsh on yourself. I’m sure I’m pretty much as everyone else, we love your videos because they are totally honest (slightly Land Rover biased but I’m sure as hell not gonna complain about that 😂) and are delivered well and with humour. Its always great to know how many cupholders a car has as this is far more useful information than how many litres a cars boot is. Litres, i mean really, who the hell came up with that? I haven't been following you that long but I'd say people started subscribing back in 2018 because you weren't loud or overbearing, had good knowledge of the car and you did still put a lot of time into editing the video. Watched you for time and always look forward to new videos (the consistency in uploading frequency is appreciated). Of all the videos I've watched of yours, this is the most inspirational! I think you're the best "presenter" on RU-vid. Always excellent dialogue and never requiring BS antics to make it interesting. Clearly the pro acting gigs set you up for future success. Great life lesson for those who might fail their first love.
