So... er um, I got my Les Paul back. And I upgraded it some more:-) These automatic locking tuners are awesome. 18:1 is a big upgrade from the stock 14:1 Grovers. Nice smooth feel to them. Easy to dial in a note.
Could it be, a guitar that Nelson can't part with? Glad to see her return. I have grown just as attached to the sister of your guitar, a SG 50s Tribute that I picked up earlier this year. It is a lifetime keeper. The neck feels exactly like my dad's 64 melody maker. Gotta say I'm rooting for this one to stay with you, says something about it given the transient nature of your guitars.
Glad to see ya got her back! sorry to hear about your displeasure with the strat. But the les paul is super nice. And those 18:1 grover tuners.........supurb touch! Good video
I have those tuners on my Epi 60's tribute LP they came stock. They work very well. I have been very pleased with them. Very good choice, and they look great too. Thanks
@sylvesterado1: I asked Nelson but then I saw your comment and thought I'd ask you just incase he doesn't reply. Another guy on RU-vid has that same guitar and he saidbthe strings were nice and slinky because of the longer shaft gives less brake angel at the nut however he had some buzzing problems. He switched to shorter (regular Grovers) and didn't like how stiff it made the string. Thoughts? I'm possibly considering getting these or possibly the ones that lock at the back so your input would help. Thanks in advance😁👍
Thanks for that - gives us a chance to see the difference in appearance and height of the posts on these "original" locking tuners as opposed to the other model with the knob on the back.
Nice video. I've been wanting to put a set of Grover Locking Rotomatics on my Les Paul but I can't decide on which model to get (the 106, 502 or 602). You're video helped a lot. I think I might go with the 106. By the way nice Les Paul you have there.
I was just wondering if they've been working out? One guy online said it threw off the brake angel at the nut. He said the string were nice and slinky but it gave him a bit of buzz. So I was wondering how you liked them also how do you change strings? Do you turn something to relice the tension?
So, I just got a Epi LP 60's Tribute Plus that have these installed (stock, BTW). Grover's site has no info on how to actually string them. Looking at your video (which is by far the best quality, BTW), I think having the two holes line up towards the center of the headstock is how they should be when you put the string through them, correct? In your video, I believe that means all strings are correctly inserted with the lone exception being the Low-E string--that one seems to have been "wound" around the peg more than the others. Thank you for posting this video and possibly responding to my comment!
If you have the old style ones with the press-in bushings on the front side of the headstock, you'll need to ream the tuning machine holes. If you have the newer ones with a nut and washer on the front of the headstock, they'll be a direct replacement with no modification necessary.
OK I figured it out . The string has to enter from the correct side. The hole is not in the center. Take a close look at the tuner and you will see. You want the string to wrap the long way around the post. if you come in from the wrong side the mechanism works like a guillotine to cut the string. On the thicker string it seems not to make a difference but its not the way the mechanism was designed to work
I've had my guitar setup with the strings that are currently on it. It's about time i change them. I want to do it myself, but will I have to have the guitar re-setup?
Why you bought these over the thumb-screw model is beyond me. These marvels of engineering stupidity came stock on my Yamaha Pacifica. I could literally setup a Floyd Rose in the time it took to put a string through one of these.
Sucks that there is no replacement for Deluxe Style.....You can add locking tuners , but they are the same shit looking ones, like Gotoh. Someone make a direct replacement for Deluxe tuners without having to ream your guitar.
KEDPL-3801C Kluson Revolution Chrome locking tuners with 19:1 ratio - I just installed a set on my Les Paul. They are a drop-in replacement for the Kluson Deluxe non-locking tuners. The locking knob is on the back side of the guitar head.
