For me as an Audio Sup, I really loved using Sanken's CS2 for my shotgun and COS11's for my lavs.

For me, here in the UK, the AKG C414 is one of my top go-to microphones.

I really like the Shure VP88 it is MS, can be battery-powered, can output L/R or M/S though I want to try the sony you mentioned. the price is a lot more attractive!

Would love to see what you're doing with the wireless mics. Also, would love to see a video on the Decimator and other scalers. I've run into a major challenge goint from the ATEM mini to a computer monitor that uses a 1280x1024 resolution. Suffice to say, the Decimator support folks haven't been able to help. I'm guessing you might have some good ideas.

I have a couple videos on most of the wireless systems that I use: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kmpbwy1y6lg.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jZbZ9TGtJ9M.html I still use my AKGs the most, but use my Sonys when I'm shooting on just one Sony camera. I'm not aware of any devices that will output 1280x1024 from a video signal. Your best bet is to just get an inexpensive 1080p monitor. They can be had for $100 easily.

@@djp_video I just bought an Atlona AT-HD-SC-500 Three-Input HD Video Scaler and will see what that does. If that doesn't help, I'll look at other options. What's kind of funny here is that my problem is stemming from adding the ATEM into the mix. When it was going direct from the computer, I could change the output resolution to match. These are the fun issues that usually take more time than money to solve. :)

Not the best, but a very universal mike for me is the AKG C1000. I'm using them since more than 20 years. A good choice for some spares If you don't know what else you maybe need.

Not a bad mic at all.

Hey Goug, that was interesting to see all this range of mics you have. I was hoping to see a Sennheiser MD 421! Thanks as usual for sharing.

I've used that one, but I don't own one.

I've used the M5 for audience micing in stiuations where you want a bit of ambience but you're not leaning too heavily on them. At half the price they work very well for that, though not quite as good as the NT5s.
@djp_video
@djp_video 3 года назад
I haven't tried the M5 yet. How close is it to the NT5?
@Motorman2112
@Motorman2112 3 года назад
@@djp_video Maybe 75% as good? You'd use an NT5 where budget allows, but the M5 is a decent option if you need a lot of them or if they need to be put somewhere at greater risk of damage.

You should definitely do your go to wireless mic, that would be very helpful

I agree with your comments on the Shure SM58. In my opinion they are a very over rated microphone. I am also a fan of the AKG C5 They sound very nice an also have very low handling noise and they are almost impossible to pop them.

speaking of stage wedges, seems nobody points the rear end of the mic into the monitors, everyone seems to set them horizontally or even a slightly tilted head-down, so it seems that works better with supercardioid than a normal cardioid?
@pbelb
@pbelb 3 года назад
In theory, yes, but, there are a number of factors, not the last of which is: what will the artist do with the mic when they're on stage? If they can keep the mic somewhat horizontal, they might do quite well with hypercardioid. but, if they tend to hold the mic at an angle (eg: which happens to be exactly where the wedges are) then it might be troublesome. So, 'it depends'.
3 года назад
@@pbelb yes, I'm saying, the ones who keep the mic on the stand tend to keep it in that position, very rarely they angle it upwards

Not really agreed with the sm58.... it`s one of the best sounding mics. Yes, it need some eq, mostly subtractive, if you have some audio knowledge, especially for the price. It has one great quality: Shit in = Shit out! Can you compared to something 3,4 or 10 times the price, like a DPA 4018vl ? Nope... but for sure it will gen your job done successfully no matter what board you plugged in !!
@djp_video
@djp_video 2 года назад
To each their own. I prefer to start with a more neutral sonic character and add EQ myself instead of having to “fix” the sound of the mic first. The SM58 is pinched and nasal out of the box. Which is fine if someone doesn’t want to EQ the mix on their own, but it isn’t good when you have multiple vocalists on 58s and you want each to stand out in the mix. I used 58s exclusively for many years, and still have a pile of them, but switched to using other mics that I found much easier to mix with. The mid-range bump on the 58 series (SM more than Beta) can be hard to work around.
@sebastianciho
@sebastianciho 2 года назад
@@djp_video well, my dude.. your suggestions are anting but neutral... check facts and datasheets ;) For those who have eq knowledge is the other way around... been doing live events, from 1 mic to major international music festivals. Believe me, Shure`s sm58 is the go when nothing else is specked ;) Better mics are double or triple it`s price... hence not a fair comparison or suggestion...

@@sebastianciho I have checked data sheets. That’s why I’ve moved away from SM58s. The AKG D, for example, is a much more neutral mic at the same price. As is the SE v7. My go-to for live is the AKG C5 with the presence boost removed, which is about 60% more expensive, but it sounds SO much better. It doesn’t work everywhere since it is a condenser and is a little more susceptible to feedback, but when I can use it I absolutely will. I’m not saying that the SM58 is a bad mic. They’re extremely rugged, so if you’re in an environment where your mics are likely to get beat up they are easily the best choice. That’s one of the big reasons you find them in so many places. But there are more neutral-sounding choices that are easier to mix with, even at the same price point. There have been literal decades for other manufacturers to come up with better alternatives to the 58, and they have. The 58 was amazing when it came out, and it is still a good mic, but the design is old and has been eclipsed. The sound of it just has too much color that I don’t care for. I don’t like the honkiness, and it seems that many top audio engineers don’t either.
