Baltimore, MD - Doug, don't undermine yourself. You are a GREAT teacher. You deserve this greatly. Only 30k followers - come on people, sign up more! You have worked so hard for what 6, 7 plus years, maybe a more if you include your photography. I have always said, you are the MAN! You know everything! I have learned so much. I love Whitt. She is awesome! I have built my whole MOBILE production truck with your videos. THANK YOU so much, Doug! We all love you, man. 🙂

What I love about your perspective, content, what you know and do, it isn't tied to the most expensive broadcast gear, but it's also not limited to basic or constrained (consumer or prosumer), you're about getting solutions, quality and reliability, what can work and what doesn't. You also see all the pros and cons, cost v benefit, points of failure, etc. Understandably, you need to have a passion beyond RU-vid clicks to do what you do.

Congrats Doug, and, keep going! The topics you cover have been really good, and your down to earth approach when sharing knowledge about each topic makes the information very accessible, which makes the content a great resource. I'm sure there's more to come - things are evolving constantly when you step back enough to see it, so there's likely always going to be a place for more content going forward if you continue to have the passion and willingness to share it! 👍

Congratulations! You are a fantastic teacher. I found your channel thanks to my wife. I had a some roadblocks solving some production issues and she helped me search for solutions. After she shared your channel I've binge-watch your content. You inspired me to get serious about video production. Letting you know you changed my life.

I once asked you in a comment, "Why are there not that many subscribers" and you answered, "Well the market is very niche". I understood, But still would want to say, a huge part of me being kinda good at what I do is because of your channel, and your topics and realistic scenarios when explaining something. going the extra step. Thank you so much for your time. And you're very much appreciated aswell. It always makes me really want to teach and do what I do with my collegues online. You really inspire me. Thank you.

Congratulations on getting to 30k subscribers! More importantly the majority of your videos have many thousands of views and I can't see your watch time, but the cumulative watch time is more important than the number of subscribers. I think back to the photography class you taught over 10 years ago and I thought you were a great teacher then. Persistence is also important because for most people it's giving them experience and practice to get better where they wouldn't be increasing their skills if they weren't continuing to do something. I sometimes see new channels started and within a few short days or weeks they're hundreds of thousands of subscribers (or more) and I admit I'm kinda jealous, but I value the skills I'm gaining by persisting. I can certainly tell a difference in the quality of my videos from 5 years ago (and longer) and I know there's at least a few people who appreciate my content. I recognize I'm not great at making videos that mass appeal, but I make videos that I know I like to watch. Frankly I just like making videos so I decided a long time ago to just keep making them for fun, and success will at the very least be that I have done something with the pictures and video I was already capturing instead of just leaving them on my hard drives never to be seen.

I also remember the StudioTech video production channel. At the time, they were the place to go. Unfortunately, they suddenly stopped at their peak, when their studio had reached a vedy nice level. But fortunately today, there’s you. Nowadays there are so many channels with a great deal of knowledge and your channel is one of them. It’s so good that I keep coming back. Your opinion seems deeply honest, not trying to always ride on the latest wave, but keep delivering very interesting information you cannot find in a similar way on other channels!

Thank you for all of the broadcast knowledge and experienced that you have shared of the past 4-5 years! I learned a lot of the initial fundamentals of broadcast production hardware and workflows from this channel and that served as a stepping stone into the larger world of broadcast knowledge. I'm now going into 5th year working in broadcast and my 3rd year working full time at a large broadcaster. If your goal with this channel was to spread knowledge about the tech that runs broadcasts, then you have most definitely succeeded! Congrats Doug!

That sounds like a very specialized workflow that there isn't a very big audience for. But in terms of how to pull it off, I'm not the right one to answer that question.

Hey Doug!! Do you have any recommendations for portable power stations for outdoor livestreaming? For running gaming laptop and multiple displays for long hours around 6-8 hours?

The only ones I've tried are from Jackery, and those have worked well, but there are a million different options out there. There are quite a few RU-vid channels out there that cover that kind of thing far better than I could.

Hi I was watching one of your older videos on Nginx but it didnt have conments. I was wondering if it would be possible to send RTMP to Nginx as a local server and then have Nginx push HLS to RU-vid. The reason would be to add a large HLS playlist buffer as sort of a custom stream cache in case of network inconsistencies. I guess the data flow would be RTMP > Nginx > HLS playlist > RU-vid. The question is, if you lost internet connection, would Nginx pushing HLS to RU-vid pause and then pick up where it left off? Or would it skip upon reconnecting to the internet? Or would it completely disconnect from RU-vid all together.
@djp_video
@djp_video 6 месяцев назад
I wish I could answer that question, but I can't; I don't have experience with HLS going to RU-vid. The reason comments are turned off on those videos is to encourage people to go to my Discord server to ask questions, as they tend to be very technical and there is a much larger community of people who will see comments there than on the RU-vid video themselves. You might find some luck there. discord.gg/9R6whJDjG3

I've had great luck with ProRes. I export in ProRes 4:2:2 and the files play back just fine. There are ways of making DNXHD and DNXHR work as well, but it's a little more complicated and I've never taken the time to learn what settings to use. But ProRes has always worked for me. Just make sure that the files you want to play are all in the exact same format (resolution and frame rate) and that they are the only ones on the card.

I think one should not start a channel with succes in mind. Just start a channel because you like to create videos or a video about something. You should not care about the number of subscribers or likes. That way it stays a nice hobby without the nagging things for viewers like misleading titles, asking for likes and subscribers, advertisement smoothly turned into videos etc etc. I just posted a very niche video about how to take a stuck XLR out without having to dismantle the complete unit and a niche video about how to connect audio to an atem without loosing the balanced transport when you use a longer cable. They got more views then I thought and that is nice but I never intended to build a channel and I still don't. Just a nice side hobby :)
