Hey guys!! There’s not a lot of editing on this video. It may seem choppy. This was very difficult for me to post and be open about but I feel in my heart of hearts that I need to put this out there and let others know that recovery is possible and that there is no shame in addiction or my past. Please let me know if you have any questions or just want someone to talk to. If you are struggling please utilize the information I have listed below, or feel free to message me on IG.
Social!

IF YOU'RE STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION, THERE IS HOPE.
IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN. There's no such thing as too far gone, there's no such thing as a hopeless case. Recovery is possible for everyone.

National Domestic Abuse Hotline: Call 1-800-799-7233

IF YOU HAVE LOVED ONES STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION/ALCOHOLISM:
PLEASE consider going to Al-Anon! This is a free, fully anonymous program for NON ADDICTS affected by the disease. Basically, if a toll is being taken on your life in any way due to a struggling addict in your life (Rather it be your partner, brother, sister, mom, grandpa, friend, etc) this program is made for you. It's a place you can go that helps you heal from any pain, let go of any resentments, gain knowledge about why things have happened in your relationship with the addict, etc. It is not a place for addicts, but a place for the loved ones of addicts. This place does not work around making a victim out of the addict. You do not even have to have the addict in your life currently or ever again to truly benefit from this program. These meetings are always locally run, and some flow better than others based on your personality. I'd highly suggest googling Al-Anon (NOT AA, this is different) meetings in your area and attending one, and if you don't like it, try another one the next time you're free. I have heard nothing but amazing comments from people who have attended. It truly helps you understand what is happening in the addicts brain, and provides you with a safe understanding environment so share and heal. And if you have been affected by an addict, you absolutely deserve clarity and to heal.

@@BrittanyJade Hello Brittany, I am a recovering addict and I have six kids with my wife of 21 years. My wife has never used any drugs nor has she ever been addicted. She calls me a narcissist, I try to explain that there is a distinction between the actions of a narcissist and an addict. I appeared selfish when in reality I was scared of being sick so I did what I had to. I lied to get to my drugs there was gas lighting. Sober its not like that, I've lost my soulmate, I'm the boy who cried wolf. She has gone to Al-ANON and yet I feel like she doesn't empathize, she thinks it's a simple choice to say no and assumes I enjoy being an addict. Please help me explain if you can.

Thank Younfor sharing this video , I am a mom of a 32 year old addict. I can't even believe I'm saying it. She has two beautiful daughters that she lost due to a CPS matter with drugs. So they are with their dad, but we all help. She is god knows where right now.... so I picked up my tablet and found you. There is a reason for everything. I'm just pray and cry and hope every minute that she will go to treatment. I tried taking her one day and she sat for 5 minutes and ran out the door. Scared. Still using crack. I'm scared and feel sick every day. 🙏🏼 Thank you .for sharing.

I got hooked on pills even though the first times I took them were through my doctor's. I remember that not only did my physical pain immediately subside but I also felt this euphoric burst of energy. I was basically in cycle of on and off addiction for probably 20 years. My older sister was a major alcoholic and abused Adderall but would judge me over my addiction. Her reasoning was that pain pills made her sleepy and nauseated. I remember wishing that were the case for me. Opiods are NO JOKE to come off of and stay off of. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story. I will be 50 in July. My 27 yr old daughter abhors any kind of drug (probably because of watching my addiction.) My 22 yr old son smokes weed non stop and I worry so much. I know he has tried cocaine, ecstasy and LSD. I try to explain that Fentanyl is EVERYWHERE. We know so many who have died thinking they were smoking Marijuana, doing cocaine, taking a xanax etc. I can't imagine being a teenager or college student in this day and age. NOTHING IS SAFE. I LOVE your beautiful baby!!! I was also a functional addict..

Agreed! Best wishes to you. Many people don’t understand that to some of us opiate pills give the same energy high that for them would feel something like cocaine…it’s SO strange how it varies that much.

Thank you for sharing your story! ❤ Your story is very similar to mine & I am so happy for you that you were able to turn your life around. I really appreciate you emphasizing the fact that there are functioning addicts. People didn't believe I had been addicted for years because I held my job and continued to live "normally". I have 436 days clean today from pills/fentanyl, and like you said my life now is a miracle. I am trying to help others with substance abuse disorder, and just want to thank my sober sister for all your strength in sharing your story and inspiring people like me. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hello lovely lady. This is the first video I have watched of yours, and I just wanted to say GO YOU GOOD THING! Thank you for sharing your story so honesty. I do not struggle with addition, but learning about it not only helps me have compassion for those who struggle with this disease, but the cycle is pervasive in so may mental health struggles and it resonates deeply with me. What I am about to say may not be helpful for some. But if you are struggling, this is what I say to myself, and if this resonates with you please say it to yourself as I say it to myself: “Hey, you are struggling right now, and that’s okay. This is just where you are right now. Don’t give up. Even if you have a bad day, tomorrow is another day to try again. Failure only happens if you fail to learn. Keep faith in yourself. You can’t change the world, but you can change you. The beauty about being the problem is that the only person that you CAN change is yourself! That’s the beauty of it! And you know what? If Brittany can be sober in her battle, there is hope for me too. Lean on other’s strength and struggles. Seek their wisdom. You’ve got this! 🖤”

I have such respect for what you are sharing. I was a "Functional Alcoholic" for 35 years of my life. Worked everyday and mostly drank on the weekends. I gave it up in September 2013. I has been 8 years of clean living. During my life I became addictive to three different drugs and have quit them all. They were Cigarettes, Alcohol and Valium. All were difficult to detox from. I'm much more happy living drug-free and I'm a better person as well. Again, thanks for sharing your story. We must try to help each other when we can. Take care, you are a very special person.

That's amazing I love hearing recovery story's. You are a very strong person. People need to hear more about this especially the ones that say this was a choice. When it is sooo not a choice. I have been clean since November 2015 from drugs and alcohol. And it's one of the best/hardest things I have ever done. I grew up in a normal loving home as well and never wanted for anything. This can happen to anyone, but you can also beat this and become stronger then the hold/disease drugs and alcohol have on you. Thank you for sharing your story. Keep up your great life you have created for yourself due to being so strong.

4 years is awesome. But it's a grind. Every single day. I have 33 years and it goes in chapters and different phases. That's the beauty of it. Recovery from addiction is lifelong journey. Until the day you die. I LOVE being clean and sober. The rewards are many and life altering. My dad committed suicide when I was 29 and I drank very heavily for 2 years to deal with the pain of his death. And so I quit at age 31 because I became a nasty, mean blackout drunk, and no one wanted to talk to me anymore. I still go to AA meetings. And I don't let my addict voice yak at me anymore. I literally laugh at it and tell it out loud to go bother some other fool who hasn't figured it all out yet." Which is that your "addict voice" only has ONE job in life. To get you to relapse. That's IT. It has no other purpose. And will trick you however it can. Anyway, thank you for telling your story. And I see this video is from 3 years ago? So I'm hoping that you have 7 years now. 🤗 And I was an athlete and a cheerleader too. But I have the genetic DNA family predisposition to addiction in my background. So it was just a matter of time. I never drank like a normal person does. I remember when they prescribed me some Tylenol #3's at age 12 for a set of stitches in my knee. I could feel the opiate rush cursing through my veins. I didn't know what it was, but my addict brain recognized it. And suddenly all my anxiety went away and Gilligan's Island seemed much brighter. But nobody knew anything about addiction back then in 1969 when it occurred. Not what they know about it now. But mostly I was a bartender at Washington State University in the 70's & 80's to pay my way through school, and it was party central!! I was the fun cheerleader drunk! But eventually became the bitch that everybody hates because they won't shut up or listen to anyone. 😛
