I was planning to make my entire garden very sensory, and scent is a huge part of it. I'm very happy that my Munstead Wood is recovering too, not without your help! :)

I am a 27 year old who was named after a great grandmother. Gertrude.. I decided to go with the rose for some reasons including because it's my name..🙃 Thankyou again for all of the AMAZING rose videos, and for pronouncing Gertrude "Jee-kill" right.. everyone seems to always say it like "jekyll and Hyde"🤷‍♀️😊

Thank you for your great reviews and inspiration. The majority of my roses are DA's. Some are fragrant and some are just beautiful with no fragrance. Out of all my roses, one stands out as the most incredibly fragrant rose, the white rose Maria Shriver. Superior health and never out of bloom. She grows along the beautiful Lady of Shallot, who has no fragrance, but Maria makes up for it. Love all your reviews. I'm looking forward to all my new additions thanks to you. God bless you. ❤

Ben, this video has been most helpful to me as I always look for very fragrant roses with very few or no thorns, so warning of lots of thorns on some varieties is great. Thank you.

Thank you for the reviews, Ben. When you talk about the roses’ Latin names, I think what you mean to say is the breeder codes. For example, the breeder code for Benjamin Britten is Ausencart. And I really must get that rose next year, your review clenched the decision.

Hello. Thank you for these great videos. I just found your channel and I’m truly enjoying it and it is so helpful as I plan my new rose garden. I’m wondering if you will consider doing a top 10 for damp climates. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US and to say the least we deal with a ton of rain in the spring season and are starting to have really dry, hot summers. Your recommendations would be most welcome. Also, I heard you reference your best roses to grow in pots but I can’t find that video. Can you direct me to where I can locate that? So glad I found you. All the best!

Well come alone there is certainly lots of media for you to work your way through. Thank you for your suggestion, but obviously I have to work with the chronic conditions that I have here and that I’m used to growing in with my experience so I may not be able to bring that one to you, I’m afraid.

Thank you gardener Ben for another great video! I am sincerely grateful for the knowledge and experience you share with us. Thank you for sharing your honest opinion of each rose. I will be watching this one more than once and studying each rose. Also, just out of curiosity, how are the Latin names assigned to/ chosen for each rose?
@the_gardenerben
@the_gardenerben Год назад
Breeders such as David Austen issued two names to the roses. The first is the commercial name, which is generally how we know them. These names are normally copy written for a period of 20 years every new variety of plant is also issued its Latin name, and for some reason all David Austins, Latin names begin with an A

@the_gardenerben
@the_gardenerben Год назад
They won’t. I’m afraid they are incredibly difficult to deal with a very unpopular suggestion is to basically remove the food source and that involves basically removing all of the blooms from your roses in the bad form for one season.

@the_gardenerben Год назад
This is a question I get asked an awful lot and it’s always difficult to answer in a constructive and helpful manner. You Plants For telling a story they’re asking you for help. If you have black spot mould and mildew, it’s generally down to several factors and the first is always stress focused watering at the base of the plant in the early morning, at least once or twice a week focused pruning, making sure you’re selecting an outward facing Budd and deep mulching generally fix most of these problems

@@the_gardenerben that's a shame when you are really the best marketing agent for them. Being new to your channel I don't actually know your connection to them as I haven't had time to watch a lot of your older videos to see if you mention it. But no matter whether you are actually connected to them or not from the videos I have seen on RU-vid from others showing their Austin roses yours are the very best giving full details on colour, scent, height, width, strength of the rose as to whether the plant is a floppy one or has strong upright growth, they are very in-depth videos and you cover all aspects in a great straightforward timely manner so you would really think they would do you the courtesy of a quicker reply seeing you have the best info on RU-vid about them which leads to more sales for them. It's said DA roses grow more vigorously here in our hotter summers than yours and honestly I haven't found that to be true in past years. I have found some to really struggle to put on any growth but having said that your information regarding Clair Austin changed my plan of how I was going to plant her. I was going for an arch with Bathsheba but now I have bought an obelisk for Clair after watching your video. I figure eventhough they say they grow more vigorously here that hasn't been my experience with some so I will take your advice and go with the obelisk and well if she turns out to be too vigorous on it I can change next winter. So I really appreciate the great details you go into to help others. Hopefully DA will become a bit more punctual when it comes to replying to you. Thanks again for all the great videos. I do look forward to getting time to watch the older ones. Have a great day.
