hello everyone! i wanted to quickly include a list of content/trigger warnings for some of the shows i mentioned. i tried my best to find links to lists for all of them but unfortunately there weren’t many. so i had to write most of these from memory. but of course, i’m not going to remember everything and there will definitely be things missing. so if there are any other warnings you think should be included for any of the shows i mentioned, feel free to comment them down below so that we can all enjoy these shows comfortably! thank you, i appreciate you all 💛 - sense8: foolishrabbit.tumblr.com/post/122650170264/sense8-content-trigger-warnings - the magicians: highkingfen.tumblr.com/post/190424648086/the-magicians-trigger-warning-update-3-of-s05 - peaky blinders: violence, gore, sexual assault - mad men: sexual assault/harassment - broadchurch: pedophilia, sexual assault - how to get away with murder: violence, sexual assault
If you enjoyed Shera, I 100% recommend The Owl House. It's super cute and lighthearted with great representation, there's also a second season coming out soon!
Thank you so much for including these. I had actually come to the comments to CW: violent rape for the Magicians because it gave me horrible flashbacks.
If u like anime I 100% recommend Hunter x hunter (2012) in my opinion it is better than fmab and has easily become one of my favorites especially later on in the show so plz watch this amazing anime!
"I think animation is so misunderstood by so many people who just write it off as something that's just for kids." *slams the table* YES! THANK YOU! I've been talking about this exact same thing for years and some people still don't get it! SMH
Avatar saved my life. There was a point in college where I was in a very, very low place and wanted to harm myself. But I kept watching ATLA and thinking to myself "I can just survive until the episode where ____ happens, now I can make it to when they do ____, now I can finish the season" and eventually that got me through enough time that I was ready to go get help.
I’m glad that you got help and I hope you are better now. 🥰 Currently I’m going through a hard time in college and I feel like re-watching Avatar is calming me down. It’s so amazing how something like Avatar can be more than entertaining. It can teach us lessons and save us from some of the hardest times.
"you can enjoy she-ra as an adult..." -- believe me, its 100% true. my dad is 50 and he watched it with me. My second favorite series ever!!!! (Obviously after ATLA😏)
I recommend watching Anne with an E, I just started it and im obsessed, its so well done and a great book-series adaptation, the acting's great and the photography's amazing. Gilmore Girls is my all time fave bc I grew up watching it w my mother, but Avatar is def a close second, Hill House, She-Ra is amazing, along the lines of She-Ra, I recommend Steven Universe, it is the cutest and most heart warming show ever. Love your videos.
And yes!! I agree completely with what you said about animation, I hate it when people look at me condescendingly when I talk about some of my favorite shows, which are animated
I (25) am currently watching ATLA with my baby brother(9) and it's such a beautiful time. We are bonding over our love for Uncle Iroh and all the songs he sings.
I personally recommend you watch Merlin. It has amazing character arcs, the comedy is subtle but really sassy and sarcastic and the story itself is just seriously amazing. I cried so much in that show because even though it’s mostly fun and light hearted it can really get deep and it really gets you invested in the characters. The show is 5 seasons and they are all fenomenal!
I have three episodes left of ATLA, I've been watching it over the last month for the first time ever and it's lived up to the impossible amount of hype I'd heard surrounding it and I'm just so insanely happy it exists and I've been able to watch it.
I just watched Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra for the first time in quarantine. Truly changed my life. I’d wanted to watch Avatar my entire life. I was surround by it in pop culture and knew I would love it. Finally, it came onto Netflix during quarantine , and I had access. So blessed to have experienced this incredible story.
as soon as atla got added to netflix i IMMEDIATELY started watching it because i've heard you talk about it for years :') definitely glad i started watching it and even though i'm only on season 2 i already love it sm
Regarding Avatar, I feel so proud every time I get someone new to watch this show. I introduced it to one of my friends a year ago, and it's now her favorite show. An absolute masterpiece
I think you would really like The Dragon Prince on Netflix, it’s another animated fantasy series that is still ongoing, and very similar to Avatar and She-RA thematically :)
Honestly, Hunter x Hunter is one of my favorite shows of all time. It’s really sweet but also really tragic and intense at some parts. If you haven’t watched it, I recommend you check it out! I’m currently bingeing Attack On Titan and it is probably the best show I’ve ever seen. P.S. I love your videos so much!!💕✨
Fruits Basket (new) - it's so much more than it seems at first! All characters are so complex, story is so well written, every episode breaks my heart and heals my soul at the same time. I'm so happy this time it's going to be finished!!!
Finally someone who values Korra! I'm still watching it but I already disagree with the way people always compare to The Last Airbender. The show is really good on its own!
Doctor Who. I was never into sci-fi but after I saw this show I fell in love. It is everything to me. There is something in it for everyone. I started watching it when I was eight and I have rewatched it at least 20+ times. It has my favorite relationships (romantic and platonic), favorite plot twists, favorite storylines, favorite characters, favorite villains, favorite aliens, and favorite themes OF ALL TIME. It does have it's cringy moments and campy villains but it's amazing. Doctor Who saved my life. It is the greatest thing ever. ALSO Phineas & Ferb is my 2nd favorite thing EVER. It is PERFECT in EVERY WAY.
Okay so if you want an Anime recommendation that is emotional yet beautiful please please please watch Violet Evergarden. Its beautiful and underrated in my opinion by KyoAni. Please like this so that Hannah to watch and review this anime
If you love shows about small towns, I'd recommend Gilmore Girls. It's highly focused on family and the mother/daughter relationship and deepy emotional, and the towns characters are so wacky that it has lighthearted moments. The amount of times I've rewatched and I cried watching...
fma:brotherhood is one of those shows i can watch over and over and love it as much as the first time i watched it. it's so good. interestingly, it's my favourite show with avatar a close second! also? don't stress about your content -- it's your channel, and if you're doing things you're passionate about then you'll have more fun and that'll reflect in what you're uploading. don't apologise for talking about things you love, whether they're books or not! just make sure you're having a good time.
Oh, piggy-backing off my own comment but if you enjoyed Hotel del Luna, you might enjoy the anime Death Parade? The description of Hotel del Luna reminded me of it a bit. It's quite dark, with a lot of cw themes so please double check before you watch but it's about a series of bars in the afterlife where people go when they die. While they're there, they play games and arbiter overseeing the bar makes the decision whether the player's souls are sent on to reincarnation, or to hell. The series follows the bar Quindecim, the bartender who runs it and a strange woman with no name or memories who assists him.
FMA Brotherhood is my favourite show. I can't even express how much I love it. It is part of me. This year I started to collect manga. Avatar is also in my heart.
I'm so very late to this discussion but...I strongly suggest you watch Dark on Netflix. We have the same taste in tv and books and I think you'd really appreciate the story telling and the way this show plays with time. Nothing can ever come close to ATLA but Dark sure is up there.
It's Ok Not To Be Okay is PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!! Omg it's so good!!!! I recommend other K dramas such as When My Love Blooms. It's sad but it's so good. and GOT7's Jinyoung is in it and he does an amazing job.
i highly recommend you a chinese show called "the untamed" it's easily one of the best shows i've ever seen, it's been months since i finished it but i still can't move on, watching it was just amazing!! the plot and the characters are both incredible, you should definitely check it out :)
I'm gonna reccomend black sails because it's basically a show about stories, all its other themes connect to the central one of stories and it has the best rewatch value I've ever seen
Hey! Am definitely going to check out Avatar now 😁 Leaving my top 5 shows ( in no particular order) 1. Orphan Black 2. Anne with an E ( this is such a comforting show and also talks about some social issues) 3. Hannibal ( loooveee the cinematography , all the actors are phenomenal, currently watching The Fall, and it's sort of filling that void left by Hannibal's cancellation ) 4. What we do in the shadows ( both the movie and the show ❤️) 5. Salem
Hannibal was so good! I watched it because I saw some stills from it and you're 100% right I think Hannibal has the best cinematography of any show I've seen
@@maestercraig3990 oh I used to constantly recommend this show to my friends, many of them never ended watching 🙄 but those who did , they absolutely loved it ! ❤️ Ikr! Why is this show so underrated, it's is absolutely fantastic, such interesting characters. Tatiana is so amazing and hardworking, I can't even imagine how she was able to portray so many different characters, who have their own unique accents and traits. She the boss🔥
Hannah, I loved this so much. As someone who is a huge fan of your bookish content I am so happy you chose to follow your heart and branch out. I love books too but I love so many other things. T.V Shows, film, art, journaling, music etc. It's so great to see the happiness light up your eyes while you discuss what you love. (No matter what that might be.) I very much look forward to your other videos. (Both bookish and non-bookish.) Stay Safe, Hannah. < 3
Hannah, I'm so happy to be watching your video! I don't know why your videos are so soothing, I love them! I figure you've not watched the UK show Fleabag (and / or Killing Eve?) because I CANNOT imagine that it wouldn't make your list considering the ones you've included. If you like David Tennant charisma and wits, the absurd but profound humour of The Good Place, familly stories, emotions... you're going to love Fleabag. This is a comedy but you laugh wry laughs, because it is so heartwrenching. The seasons are 6 episodes, 20 minutes each, and you wonder how Phoebe Waller-Bridge can be THAT good! Season 2 is... it is a miracle.
!!! thank you for shedding light onto Sense 8 omg !!! the cinematography, the story line, the characters, everything is just ART when it comes to that show ✨
Ahhhh your tv shows taste is so superior 👏🏻👏🏻 I think you’d really love Anne with an E. Anne with an E, Emma (2019), Pride and prejudice (2005), and Little Women (2019) are my chicken soup for the soul when I feel like I need some wholesome joy in my life. Sex education is in the same vein of just “I need a cast of characters to get really invested into”. Also I think you’d really really love Dark on Netflix. It’s a German show that makes you THINK and the writing is PHENOMENAL, it truly doesn’t get enough praise. And if you just want to be emotionally destroyed for months after, give Normal People a chance. Also, Fleabag for me is somewhat in the same category as Marvelous Mrs Maisle of “comedy, but also give me all of the feels”.
Totally agree with your take on animation!! It's really sad to see both the mainstream audience and big Hollywood studios treat animation so poorly, when imo it is the BEST form of storytelling. You have some great picks too! You had me at ATLA and FMAB 💕
the second you mentioned Sense8 I lost my mind!! ugh it's so good and I'm so sad it was cancelled. also 100% agree with your thoughts on animated shows; they're some of the most creative, imaginative, and stunning forms of storytelling that exist, period!
Im on the autism spectrum and want to make children books, so It's Okay to Not be Okay sounds perfect to me. Favourite shows... 1. Pushing Daisies (so underrated) 2. Buffy The Vampire Slayer 3. Firefly 4. Peaky Blinders 5. The X Files 6. Euphoria 7. Twin Peaks 8. Sharp objects (limited series) 9. New Girl 10. The Alienist
8 of your list are absolute favourites of mine too. Which means I immediately looked up Sharp Objects and Euphoria as I’m certain I will enjoy them. Thanks for some of my new favourite shows!
YES! Hotel de Luna is beautiful. I love it to death-I started watching it because of IU and then got so invested in the story and characters. So stunning.
Fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood is like a more violent/bloody version of Avatar. An ensemble cast that you love, great villains, amazing storyline with a satisfying conclusion, unique magic system, great sibling dynamics, etc. if you love avatar, you HAVE to watch fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood and vice versa I also think fma does romance better than avatar, even tho I love avatar more... the romance wasn’t my favorite. (I wish there hadn’t been ANY romance at all)
If you haven't watched the kdrama Mr. Sunshine yet, you should definitely watch it. It's a pure masterpiece. It's the only kdrama that shook me for a long time.
Broadchurch is definitely my favorite shows of all time. The story is so good. The acting in that show is by far phenomenal. I always recommend that show whenever anybody ask for a show to watch. At the start of quarantine I did start Schitt’s Creek and I freaking love that show! I’m not much of a person who watches comedy as well but Schitt’s Creek is just a wholesome comfort hilarious show that I think you should give a chance to watch. I am in the middle of book 2 of Avatar The Last Airbender. I also love that show. I had pretty high expectations cause I haven’t heard a bad thing about that show and it’s just so so so good.
highly recommend The Dragon Prince (this is coming from someone who also loves Avatar as my favorite show). it carries so much of the heart and soul of Avatar, plus it already has three seasons with four more just announced to come!!!
I'd recommend Descendants of the sun to you, since you watched Hotel Del Luna... Really!! You HAVE to watch it!! Also, waiting for your Kdramas videos... Do make it please
You predicted whodunnit in Broadchurch?!?! Colour me impressed!!! That show is on my “if I could wipe it from my mind to experience it again for the first time” list of films/shows 😁❤️
I know that I'm 2 weeks late but you should definitely watch *CHICAGO TYPEWRITER* .I bet you will love it more than Hotel Del Luna!!! Really hope you see my comment!! P.S. I love your channel. Keep creating such diverse content. Fighting!!
Since you like morally gray characters, I think you'll enjoy Death Note. The show has issues with transitioning into new storylines and half of episode 26 is recap. Otherwise, the show is really engaging and thought provoking.
hannah and ashley (bestdressed) both made this video and i swear to you i am going to watch every show they mentioned because they are both so passionate and well spoken
I love animation and animated stories. I also want to become an animator and create my own show, but it's such an underrated and amazing form of storytelling that's labeled as just for kids when it's really not. Those shows do the best job and displaying complex themes to kids, displaying emotional, deep, and dark moments while also displaying humor and levity and neither feel out of place. I cant ask for anything more
So... you talking about Avatar on your channel is one of the reasons I decided to finally watch it for the first time ever this past May (i’m 25)... and I’m already on my third rewatch. It’s one of the best thing I’ve ever watched and I think I’ll never stop watching it!😍😍😍
as a Korean I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy kdramas! Assuming from the titles you've mentioned, I feel like you would rlly like the show called Goblin too. It's a fantasy rom-com and the plot, the romance and the cinematography is just amazing 👏 Would highly recommend
Attack on Titan and The Promised Neverland are my FMA:Bs. I first watch TPN last winter as it was coming out, and since then I've watched it four times. I watched AoT for the first time around this time last year and since then watched the whole thing three times and the manga up to where season 3 ends once. I love love love those shows so much and could watch them(especially AoT) over and over again.
I’ve not seen The Promised Neverland (yet) but I 1000% agree with AoT. It is damn perfection. I only watched it for the first time a month ago and I’m halfway through my second rewatch because I cannot bring myself to watch anything else! At this point I’m honestly content to keep watching it for the rest of my life.
@@stacymartin8128 Ikr!! I want to rewatch it again soon, but this time with my dad. I want to see his reaction and see if he would like it, because I honestly don't know what he'd say to it.
Alanna It may take a few episodes to get into I’m guessing since they can be very off putting for some people, but oh my god if you drag him through it I can’t see how he won’t get invested. Best of luck!!!
@@stacymartin8128 Yeah, I'm a little worried about that, but I might introduce him to a few different anime series before that so he can get used to the anime medium.
My recommendation is the Tales of Arcadia trilogies, which have 3 series that intertwine with each other. Also, its animated. Troll Hunters: Jim is just a normal boy before he finds a mysterious amulet on his way to school. Before he knows it, he's been chosen to be the guardian of a secret society of Trolls that live underneath the city of arcadia, and can use the amulet to turn into the protector of all trolls: The Troll Hunter. 3 Below: After escaping a coup on their home planet, two royal alien siblings named Aja and Krel escape to Earth and land in Arcadia and try to fit in with humans while also trying to find a way to save their home. Wizards: After being just Merlins apprentice for so long, Hiserdoux jumps at the chance to prove himself a real wizard when his mentor asks him to find the guardians of Arcadia You'll have to watch the shows in the order they're written, or you'll be kinda confused, especially if you watch Wizards before any of ther other shows. They are all so good and greatly told, and I highly reccomend
Love this list! I would def recommend the umbrella academy to you - big dysfunctional family with superpowers trying to stop the apocalypse! You also might like person of interest if you’re looking for more crime shows that can be analyzed/discussed. It starts off kind of like a procedural but it gets so much better as it goes on!
Wow you're literally my new favorite person. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is my favorite anime too! It's such a masterpiece and even though I first watched it when I was 14 years old and I'm 21 now, to this day no anime compares, especially my hardcore fangirl stan dedication. (Also love your other recommendations!)
Hunter Hunter, Monster, and Haikyuu are some of the best shows I’ve watched. I’ve also heard that Outlander and Legend of the Galactic Empire are amazing.
sense 8 is one of my favorite shows of all time and i'm so happy you talked about it. i don't think i've ever seen someone talk about it before, that made my day thank you.
Hannah, your taste is impeccable!! (We have the same hehe) Sense8 is sooo underrated!! I want to get into Anime and really have to watch Fullmetal Alchemist soon!
if anyone is looking for kdramas, PLEASE watch signal! its a mystery series following a detective trying to solve cold cases (with some help from a walkie-talkie from the past). I dont want to spoil much, but if you love crime/mysteries or even shows with time travel aspects I cannot recommend it enough!
You might really like "Newsroom". It centers around an evening news channel and the lives of the anchor and the main journalists who contribute to it. It features many current events from the early to mid 2000s and commentary on both those events and the way news and journalism handles tragedy/politics. It can get a bit preachy but overall the characters are amazing and the story has a wonderful arc. It is hysterical and heartbreaking, often in the same episode. Also, like all Arron Sorkin shows it only has three seasons so the story never feels overdone.
I have been watching K dramas as well. My fave is "Oh My Ghost" specifically the 2015 one. I've watched that show/series twice. I recommend it to like everyone.
for k-dramas that deal with mental health and are still good and wholesome and well-written i would definitely say Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bokjoo because it's been years and i still think about it.. the chemistry between the two main leads is chefs kiss
Also for kdrama I would recommend sky castle, reply 1988, prison playbook, and hospital playlist. But as a Korean Kdrama enthusiast, I approve of your choices as well 👍🏻
I HIGHLY recommend watching Pose on netflix. It’s a complete emotional rollercoaster and sheds light onto the struggles of the lgbt community. It is something I watched around the same time as Sense 8 and I hold both of those shows near and dear to my heart.
I recommend Fruits Basket (2019) if you wanna feel emotional. ngl, I hate the MC, she is a mary sue to me BUT the rest of the cast, the stories, the message, is SO good. Run with the wind is a sport anime that took me completely by surprise, I loved it so much I rewatched more than 3 times already and I will keep doing it cause that's how good this is! It's an anime about running but omg SO GOOD, never thought I would ever care about marathon but here I was, cheering for the characters who were so good!!!!!
I can talk about avatar the last airbender all day, everyday!! You described it so well because it's not just a kids show, everytime i rewatch it, I learn something new that I can really relate to or apply to my life or situation I'm in and it never fails to make me laugh or cry. It's my absolute favorite thing
I hope you do more videos like this Hannah! I enjoy listening to you talk about anything, really. I've seen most of the shows mentioned here. I honestly lost motivation to finish HTGAWM after season 3. The acting is superb but the writing on the show just got a bit too over the top for me. Thanks for the k-drama recs! Have you seen the k-drama "Age of Youth" (aka "Hello, My Twenties")? It's a slice of life college-age drama that made me very emotional, I think you would like it.
As for animation I would highly recommend both Fruits Basket (2019) and Trollhunters. Fruits Basket seems fluffy but it is actually a much more serious and emotional show, as well as romantic, and is about a girl who ends up entangled with this family who can turn into the avatars of the zodiac. Trollhunters is more light-hearted but very visually beautiful and has a great plot, it is directed by Guillermo Del Toro and is about a teenager suddenly chosen to be the protector of Trolls and Earth's magic.
If you haven't watched Pushing Daisies you should give it a try! It's a difficult show to explain but it's an amazing combination of crime/romance/fantasy/comedy and I just genuinely think more people need it in their lives.
Pushing Daisies is underrated. I don't find comedy very funny but I really liked this show. Too bad there are only 2 seasons but they're great 2 seaons.
If you haven’t already watched it, I highly HIGHLY recommend you Over the garden wall. Everything about that show is just exceptional: the storytelling, the characters, the animation, the music....just EVERYTHING(imo). And it’s just PERFECT for fall, to get you in the spirit. I just can’t recommend this show enough. If you decide to watch it i hope you’ll love it as much as I do.
