My Alternative Mincemeat Pies: Mince Swirls & Puffy Pies

A couple of twists on the classic Christmas Mince Pie!
MINCEMEAT SWIRLS
INGREDIENTS
1 Ready Rolled Puff Pastry Sheet
250g Mincemeat
1 Egg, beaten to glaze (optional)
Icing sugar for dusting (Optional)
METHOD
Preheat oven to 220°C (200° for fan assisted ovens) Gas mk7.
Remove the pasty roll from the fridge in accordance with the instructions on the packet.
Unroll pastry sheet with its long side towards you, leaving it in the baking paper.
Evenly spread the pastry with mincemeat, leaving 1cm clear on the top long edge and 2cm clear at the bottom.
Roll the pastry up like a Swiss Roll by taking the two corners of paper furthest from you and drawing them towards you so the pastry and mincemeat form a long roll. Tuck the first 1cm in to form a tight swirl.
Using a sharp knife cut into 14 or 15 slices and lay them cut side down on baking sheet.
Brush the outside edges with beaten egg and bake for 20 minutes until pastry puffed and golden.
Dust with icing sugar to serve if desired.
PUFFY MINCE PIES
INGREDIENTS
1 Ready Rolled Puff Pastry Sheet
Mincemeat
Water
Granulated sugar
METHOD
Preheat oven to 220°C (200° for fan assisted ovens) Gas mk7.
Remove the pasty roll from the fridge in accordance with the instructions on the packet.
Unroll the sheet onto a work surface and cut out discs using the largest size pastry cutter you have. Do not use a bowl etc, it will ruin the edges of the pies.
Place half of the discs onto a lined baking sheet and spoon a dollop of mincemeat into the centre of each leaving a 1cm gap around the edge.
Brush the edge with water and place a second pastry disc on top of the mincemeat.
Gently press it onto the lower disc, easing any air pockets out.
Place a smaller sized pastry cutter over the centre of the pie and very gently press the 2 discs into contact.
Wash the tops with water and sprinkle with sugar.
Pierce 2 holes in the top of each pie.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until the pies have risen.
Allow to cool and ENJOY!

As I’ve aged, I enjoy traditional mince pies even more. Not too keen on the numerous flavoured varieties doing the rounds. Very creative… your ‘Swiss roll’ method 🎅🏻👍🏻

We are watching Victorian Farm Christmas 🤶 and also Lucy Worsley Christmas Twelve Days and very interesting to see how Christmas dishes have changed. Nana used to make Eccles cakes at Christmas too. Have a super one Steveo, Ali 🎄🤶

Happy holidays, Ali. Yes, another meal that is "available" all year round. It used to be very seasonl but you can buy sprouts, parsnips even turkey 365 days of the year now :)

Good morning, Steve, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA Mincemeat pie is my favorite! My Mother made it every Christmas and I only got 2 pieces (5 in our family).
