Mother and I were the only ones in our Family that loved mincemeat pies. We would have them late in the evening sitting together when it was quiet and all of the rush of the day was done. Just the two of us talking and enjoying the pies with either vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or cool whip topping. - " Fragrance of Memory "

My mom used to add shredded lard to her mincemeat, so it technically was still 'mincemeat'. When I was really young I remember someone saying she'd crumbled up some bacon in it too, but she'd moved on from that by the time I was old enough to help with the baking. She also added shredded apple from our King Apple tree to keep the mincemeat moist, but mainly to stretch the amount of mincemeat we could afford through the whole holiday season.

Hello John. Today is mincemeat tarts today. My mother always had a mincemeat pie on our holiday table. As a youngster I turned up my nose to this old school dessert. I of course got past the name and tried it. So good. I also like to pipe some on top of the tart with some frangipane and a few sliced almonds. Thank you John. Wow! What timing! I am making my Nan's recipe for her minced meat from scratch. Sitting here by the stove while the meat is simmering, I opened up RU-vid to see what I could find to entertain me while I waited and stirred, and it was a lovely surprise to see your minced meat pies! My Nan used orange zest in her pastry too, and a great hit of good whiskey and real meat in her minced meat. The house smells like Christmas! Thank you for sharing, and have a very Merry Christmas!

John, beautiful result as always. These pies really should be called something else. My great-grandmother used to make authentic mincemeat pies, as well as mincemeat cookies, and there is no jar that can even come close to replicating the taste of the real thing.

I was converted instantly to your roast spuds & yorkshire pudding recipes a while ago and therefore there'll be a great roast or two this Christmas in our house. And then I tried this sweet mincemeat pie recipe . . .by the time the cooling rack realised what was resting on it, it was empty again! I grew up in the sixties and learned the basic; flour 50/50 fats and bind with water mix, I've used it ever since...until now. Armed with one of your adjustable rollers and not faffing about fitting full-cover tops, putting the filling in a bowl [not fiddling about in the jar] these 'quick & easy' pies came together like a dream. And then. . . the taste, oh my word, I refer you back to the cooling rack that blinked and almost missed them! Delicious John. Glorious Season's Greetings to you and yours.

I love mince pie. I make them every year for my husband and me. My mom and her partner loved them as well. Both have recently passed away. I miss them very much.

I still make the old-fashioned mincemeat from scratch; pressure canning it to have some available when wanted. Here in the Midwest USA we also make large pies, not the tarts. Warm mincemeat pie with real whipped cream is heaven! Merry Christmas to you and yours, sir.

I just got your books and the skeleton gloves for Christmas, you got them to the States in time and I got to use them during cooking a traditional English Xmas dinner. The gloves rock, seriously the best thing in the kitchen now. Love the videos and making the food you show. Have a great New Year and please keep the videos coming. Any chance you can do some on snacks or "finger" foods for those times sitting in front of the TV or when friends are round just chilling?

Mincemeat pies were never a thing in my family (I think they're less popular in the US generally), so I don't think I've ever had one, but these do look very tempting. Being ill over the holidays is the worst, I hope you feel better soon!

Holy cow, somehow i missed this video until today. I love mincemeat pies! Sadly, they are hard to come by in the US, unless you make your own. And the commercially available jarred mincemeat is too sweet for my tastes. But i still occasionally make mince pies with the jarred filling, quite simply because i lack the time to make it properly.

These look amazing, I've been looking for a recipe to make these. My FIL talked about mincemeat pies for years - but with meat & I was never able to find a recipe for him before he passed. Now, I'd like to make one for my husband in honor of his father. I may not get to them before Christmas - I still need to find mince, a recipe for making your own said it needed to sit for a few months(!) before using - but will make them sometime over winter.
