Going into making his video I thought it would bring a solid 8-10 minute vlog, and it ended up being my longest vlog so far somehow. Anyway, here's all the things I consider when skating ledges, that help me get all the confidence I need.
If you have any other aspects that are important for you, let me know in the comments, and if you disagree with a specific point mentioned in the video, let me know your take on it! :)
I guess the video could also be named basics of ledge skating, but then again I see how it's my personal approach and therefor I stay with this title lol

I love how skaters can talk about a ledge for a half hour.

Man you make locking grinds look so easy. My big thing I am working on right now is trying to lock soul tricks so I can stay on the ledge FOREVER. Big thing for me is the commitment I need to get more on top of the ledge.

Good to have you back and with a banger! Once again a great advert for the insta 360, really makes the solo shots look so good 🔥🔥🔥 I love ledge skating, but I've never skated a marble ledge yet - that is the dream!

Enjoyed this one a lot, especially it being a longer video. Ledge skating is essential, getting topsides correctly is such a nuanced skill and feels amazing

Awesome content again of course! When I skate a ledge and practice a trick i will eyeball my lock on spot,usually a foot or so from the beginning. Then as I practice and get more comfortable I try to go for the whole ledge then I add on variations, spins in and out, switchups etc

Love the longer video. Some critical feedback, maybe structure your video so that you showcase the skating your talking about while using the explanation for voice over. I love listening to you, personally, but from a channel growth perspective I think most people will get the best experience by watching visual examples. Especially newcomers. Just a thought. Love your work, friend. Can't wait to see what's next

Man, i was watching your video and was like "exactly!!" at every points you mentionned, like the waxing process for example, i know it's pretty basic but i have come to the same conclusion as you about the places you need to wax in order not to fall miserably, even tho my antis allows me to wax a shorter space than your flat setup force you to. About the starting and endeing point, of course it does matters a lot to me, i've already tried some long ledges with no ends and no beginning and it just does'nt feel the same, like "was this grind shorter than the previous one? Did i start at the same place?". About the fact that ledges are better for beginners i would not totally agreed on this point, personnally i've (almost) always been skating ledges with no copping on them, as we do not have anything else at my park, and it was very useful in order to get some confidence on my firsts tricks. But as a beginner, i was using some sway mounted with some type x frames so when i tried to learn tricks like torque or topsides, the ledges made it almost imossible to land them and a rail would have helped me a lot. So i think that ledges are really good for your very firsts tricks but at least a small rail can be a gamechanger for a beginner, especially when the beginner is still trying to figure out wich setup would be the best for him.

So what do you consider "natural" for you. Is it more about what side of the ledge you are approaching from and the direction you have to spin ? For me my left foot is natural for soul, topside, backslide and oddly even torque. So a trick like a mistrial I am comfortable doing either way but something like a true misfit (topside a/o mistrial spun the hard way) I feel more comfortable spinning my natural direction (left) and using my torque foot (left) to get my weight centered on top and slow down my spin but technically my right foot a/o top is "switch"

Thanks for making this one man. I've been struggling with topsides because I never learned them when I was young. That tip on making sure to stand on your grinds and give yourself enough time to look down actually gave me to confidence to get sweat stances and top souls. Any tips on what you do or focus on to avoid wheel bite while riding flat? Keep up the good work!
@climbtheskyspine5748
@climbtheskyspine5748 2 года назад
Lock your grinds properly/flex more/commit completely to the angles your skates need to be - no wheel bite.

Yeah I guess it could be a lot of things (including a 270 back farv even) but I've never seen someone do it the way Michael did and not call it a 270 BS Royale. He does make a good point with the ao unity / front sav comment but old heads like myself tend to base trick names a little bit differently since a savanna wasn't even a thing yet when I started
