The My Arcade Street Fighter II Champion Edition Premium Edition Micro Player was released nearly two years ago. And despite being well reviewed, it did have a few defects (both major and minor) which are rumored to have been addressed in more recent releases. I commend a company for listening to fans’ feedback and/or criticism; it shows that they care and are willing to address a products problems, thereby finding a solution to rectify them. Blimey! Excellent breakdown. I have one of the original ones and changed the buttons, changed the spring and added small pads to the joystick underneath to make it a better playing experience. I think I will try to find a revised one now that some of these issues are taken care of and will be good to have two for another player. Thanks for the video!

Really impressed at how My Arcade addressed and fixed the issues, think I will pick up the revised SF II unit now. Too bad about the slightly differing screen quality but hey, ya win some ya lose some. Hopefully this is also a sign of more good things to come quality wise with their upcoming new lineup that was previewed at the trade shows a few months ago.

refresh rate on the new model screen looks faster/better in the recording/not sure how it is to the naked eye - but you were correct its not as bright... but ill take a faster refresh rate over brightness...

You're quite welcome, VJ! I mention this very briefly in the video but didn't drive it home: If you spot the buttons in the correct red/white/blue sequence, I'm pretty sure that directly corellates with the revision of the entire unit. That's a safe bet, but save your receipt just in case! 😀

I received one of these as a Christmas gift, and one of the plastic microswitch tabs on the joystick snapped off that very day rendering the game unplayable, and I didn't think I was being particularly vigorous (was shaking to wake up from dizzy etc, but wasn't really slamming it), it's a neat looking little device so I was very disappointed, but opening up the unit and seeing how cheap the tabs for the joystick microswitches are (seriously, the plastic looks the quality/thickness of the piece of plastic you break off to start a can of compressed air), I'm not surprised. All so they could save a few cents on plastic. Apparently these things aren't actually meant to be played but set on a coffee table.

@@GenXGrownUp Unfortunately it's well past the 120 day warranty period at this point, and I didn't want to bother the person who had gifted it to me for the purchasing details required on their form. I might try to jury rig some kind of fix with a piece of metal or something in the future, chances are even if they replaced it the replacement would use the same cheap, thin piece of plastic that would break in short order anyway. I have the street fighter anniversary collection on my PC and both Capcom Arcade Stadium collections on my Switch as well as an 8bitDo Arcade Stick so I certainly have a better way of playing this game, it's just a shame that this thing doesn't seem durable enough for serious play.

I have the exact same problem on BOTH of my two units. I reached out to MyArcade support and they never responded. I'm trying to fix mine with a newly printed 3D part. But how frustrating that a unit this cool is rendered useless by such a cheap part. The Amazon reviews on this unit also confirm that this is a real problem.

@@davidbloom7365 Yeah, I was really surprised when I opened it up just how cheap the plastic they use is - it is literally like one of those tabs you have to break to start canned air etc. - how they thought that would hold up to moderately vigorous play is beyond me, especially since you have to shake the stick to wake up when dizzied etc. - it's like they didn't even test this thing. It's a shame, as I said, because it makes a neat coffee table interactive discussion piece kind of thing, but if mine broke with not even an hour's play....yikes.

What are dimensions of an original joystick spring: diameter, height? Do one need to open only the two front screws to change it and make a joystick rigid?

Afraid I didn't take measurements. I'd recommend you remove yours and then visit your hardware store to request a similar but tighter one.

The old one screen looks brighter then the new one / the new one looks graphically better / in my opinion i perfer the buttons to be white blue & red going across it makes more sense to me

Sure. There's no sure way to know, but in general, it's believe that if the buttons are in the correct order, then it's likely the revision.

I see a lot of comments asking "can you mod this" on various products. The short answer is, "absolutely!" Anything can be modded with the right know-how and investment. I always consider the value proposition: If I spend the time and money to modify this product, is the end result worth it or would I be better off spending that money on a more expensive product that already has the benefits & features I'm looking for?

I couldn't get absolute verification, but I believe if the buttons are in the correct order, you're looking at v1.1. Save that receipt just in case!

There is no swap out program as they did not manufacture the control decks seperately. YOu will have to find, and buy a new unit to get the upgrades. It's a whole new unit.

if they have a usb or usbc port to connect to an external controller would be even better. Or if someone can hack it so it can connect to one would make this a fully playable portable on the go. Oh. if the external connection can have for 2 controler to make the 2nd player useable is even a better idea.

Not definite, but anecdotally, it seems that if the buttons are in the red/white/blue order, that wave is around when the new version shipped.

The firmware version won't be visible on the listing, but it seems to be the general consensus that if the buttons are in red/white/blue order, you're likely getting the 1.1 revision. amz.run/6sHv

Has anyone hacked this? Someone came up with a really nice hack for the Namco Museum cab, but that hardware is rather wimpy... it can't handle CPS games, and it doesn't really do fighting games, unless Yie Ar Kung Fu counts.

The Big problem of this units is the uggly frame rate and the MyArcade custom ROM, they change stages and sounds.... Is not for play, beautifull but not playlable

Hey man, I was wondering if you could perhaps make a video addressing another major flaw in the machine, only because you would have way more influence over them than I would, but on those machines and it’s happening to multiple people, when they did the upgrade from v1.0 to 1.1, as you mentioned, they updated the joy stick switch actuator from one with curved arms to one with flat arms. That was actually a terrible design decision for multiple reasons, I’ll explain. While flat arms may have improved actuation consistency a bit, by going flat instead of curved, meant that structural integrity was lost. A curved surface is exponentially stronger against perpendicular forces as a flat one. Now that it’s flat, the force on that 90 degree joint is maximized. Now, this may not have been a problem, if they kept the thickness of the plastic the same as before, but they decreased it to the point where with just a little bit of force, the arms snap off. The same type of force one might apply using a charge character like Guile, Blanka, or Boxer. One of mine snapped, so I took it apart and when I tested the other arms, they were so weak at the joint that only one of them felt strong enough to handle any kind of reasonable pressure. 3 of 4 were so weak that by just using a fingertip and wiggling it yo would see a white line form at the joint signifying that the plastic is creasing which will snap with enough wiggles. I can take a video of this for you, but the company doesn’t seem to think it’s a problem, when it’s obviously a design flaw. If they just made the part with double the thickness, this wouldn’t be an issue.

@@GenXGrownUp That’s awesome. Thanks again. On a side note, rather than making them replace the entire unit, I just needed a flat sheet of hard plastic that was thicker than the arms of the actuator. I found one, a plastic shelf from one of those plastic drawer systems you can get at Walmart, and using a Dremel, I cut out a piece large enough to trace the outline of the actuator on, cut it to length, cut a whole in the center large enough for the spring to go through, proceeded to snap off the last remaining arm, and then placed the new piece over top of it, giving it 4 new arms that are much sturdier and rigid than the stock ones and now it plays perfectly. It doesn’t quite look ultra professional, but I’m, proud/happy that I came up with a successful solution. =)
