I think what John Wayne was saying was that culturally at that time he desired all people to take responsibility. The interviewer asked if he believed in white supremecy, and so he mirrored that phrase. The context is important. No one will ever know if he was bigoted at this point, but listening to his words, and reading the full interview make me think it was well taken out of context.

Idk how to respond to the greater thing. Mlk and x both had valid points, ppl like MLk more because his peace philosophy but that can make you very passive, Malcolm I would say had a more immediately relevant ideology but ppl are pretty fickle about moral stands when they gotta bleed for it. I think they’d both agree with the sentiment that I take from affirmative action, that it’s basically a hand out and it makes whoever gets it less likely to strive for better.

What Wayne meant was that an oppressed people who had literally just been liberated need to live a generation integrating into the cultural context resulting from this before being given positions of power. The book of Proverbs says that the world cannot endure a servant who becomes a king. Same general concept.
ya, despite whatever context wayne came at the issue with his comment, it holds alotta truth imo, just like the example you stated. Slaves were literally livestock the abruptly one day full bore people with rights including affecting government with no education. Its the same as Democrats trying to get illegals to vote, flooding ignorant voters to skew the system
