Gday Guys. Thanks for tuning in. Come check out my Aussie Bush Hut. Its a hut build by my family and I, back in the early 90s. We are slowly doing things to it, to make it a little more comfortable. I also prep a deer skin for brain tanning, cook up a lamb roast in the camp oven and take a look at Australian Bushcraft books.

My dad built our home room by room when i was little. My mum had me a 46 so I got to watch the old ways of life which I love and miss. For roast chicken every Sunday dad would chop the chickens head off and mum would pluck it. Many would not know how to survive without a supermarket now, too sad. Thanks for sharing, love it.

Very nice video. Looks peaceful. I liked the wire toaster. I'll be copying that. In our younger years my wife would camp with me but finally admitted how much she hated it. If its not enjoyable then it can become a bone of contention. My youngest son told me yesterday he wants to give it another try. Lets hope he likes it. I like those books. I'll try to find them. I have some from the Fox Fire series. They are similar type books covering life skills of the Appalachian hill folks. I think they were published in the late 60s and early 70s.

Mate, I'm a new subscriber and I've gotta say that I really enjoy your videos. The practical bushcraft skills are fantastic, it's not always easy to survive in the bush unless you have some idea. My only problem is, you let your dog chase something out there in the dark, if it were a kangaroo that's really dangerous and really not on, what happens if it's a big buck that kicks s#@t out of the dog? Or the dog hurts the Roo? It's actually illegal to allow dogs to harass native animals, and not fair on them either. You went hunting on an earlier video, not for a Roo but for Deer, you reckon you're predominantly venison eaters, well they are an introduced species. Leave the kangaroos alone please mate.

Hey mate just wonder what kind of tanning have you found works best so far on deer skins and to what species.. been meaning to try one but everything i read says the hair is prone to falling out. Down here near lake eildon we mostly have sambar and the hollow hair is said to be impossible to keep in the skin.
@Southernlandbushcraft
@Southernlandbushcraft 2 года назад
Gday mate. I've been using brain a lot, on Fallow Deer, good results. Keeping it pretty traditional. There are more options out there, to use. Lecithin Granules and coooking oil is good to. Check out "Australian Natural Hide Tanning". Yes deer hair is hollow and will slip. How bad it slips will depend on what your using the hide for. Using it as a floor mat/ hard use item, will cause it to slip faster. But in saying that I have skins that I use all the time for different things and they haven't shown any real signs of slipping.

@davidhandyman7571 2 года назад
Australian hardwood is hard. Some cannot be split without using wedges. You may have noticed the splitter bounce off the log. You have to split smaller pieces from the sides of the log along the growth rings. Axes would be stuck in the grain if you tried to use an axe to split the log.

Good stuff mate, hey I’m involved with a closed Facebook group that only posts about Hunting, Fishing and Outdoors, I have taken a few first timers out for hunts, all members have similar backgrounds to us, do you have a face book profile I can PM and invite you along, if you want, great way to keep in contact with old buddies and new faces in the region too ?

Great let me know if you have one , or maybe make one for your channel, them Privets Message me and I’ll get you in. Also when making a profile you don’t have to use your real name if you want to keep some sort of anonymity from Big Brother.
