Yeah bro. Three of the five Foxbodies I’ve owned were AOD and two of them had gremlins that were fixed with TPS replacement. You win the internet today.
My son's aod lx was poping threw intake, we did top end of the motor. Man here to tell you we went threw same hell as you, changing parts, checking timing, new injectors. Then finally checked fuel pressure again and found pressure at 12psi. Got new fuel pump and dropped tank, found rubber s hose had blew out. Runs like raped ape now. Currently we installed baumann shift kit. While still on jack stands found back breaks not working, always something. Thanks for another great video brother.
This fellow is a major asset to all of us! I wish I'd known You in the 90's when My vortech blown Mustang GT was driving Me nuts! Thank You for all that You do.
Love when someone helps with the odd ball issues. Your hours of sweat saved a lot of people. I don't own a fox but I have some 302's and I most likely will go carb however I will forever save this info and just saying it's appreciated. Hopefully it will help me one day
Very good info! I’ve never had to mess around with a TPS before, but the way you explained it and gave a demonstration of the diff between a 5spd and auto was great. Made sense to me. I’ve always ran carb cuz that’s just what I know. I’m real glad you got it straightened out. Now on to other things you want to get done on the car. Always a good feeling to knock something off that list of “to do” items. Good work man!
I'm a GM guy but I appreciate what you do with your content for the Ford/Fox guys. Most people with 90's and older GM/Ford vehicles are too hung up on swapping and putting in the "newest/greatest" parts (LS engines, Coyote's, T56, etc. SBF, SBC and other traditional V8's can perform great but often get overlooked for swaps.
6:02 Absolutely correct. Some things are better left alone. When I did the base idle reset, from timing to TPS, it did run a lot better this summer. From my experience, experimenting with Fuel Pressure is also something that can mess stuff up. Good Video!
This is good to know info I am currently building a 88 lx hatch with a aod for a little fun installing 410 gears gt 40 heads and upper and lower intake the upper I bought used came from a 5 speed car with a holly 70 mm throttle body I am going to leave the tps sensor that came with it in there glad I found this out probably would have given me problems thanks agian and go dawgs💪
Thank's for explaining the TPS a little better to us, because my car all of a sudden started idling high about 1,500 rpm's. I was wondering where you were plugging the wires in at, and i saw one of ur other video's, so when i attempt to do it. Anyway thanks, also i may have too send you a Bears hat so you can represent..lol 🦊
Also the thermostat keeps the engine in the right temperature range and in order for the engine to run correctly the sensors need to see the right temperature.
I actually ran my 92 notch with just the ring of the thermosat and i had a stock radiator and work fine for years for me,my car ran hot in the summer here in miami so i ended up doing that and it worked great somehow.
MORBID FOX MUSTANG then you probably had a bad fan clutch or clogged radiator. These cars brand new ran normal temperatures. The stock set up is absolutely fine until. Something fails. Radiators can be upsized when mods begin but they don’t need anything else.
Ive been driving manuals my whole life. There are days with my stock 93GT 5spd I wish it was a AOD! My brothers stock 92 LX convert which is AOD is so nice!
Had to do a similar adjustment to my old 01 GT that had the 4R70, I added a larger TB, CAI, and Pelinum. We actual drilled out the tps sensor bolt holes reinstalled and then adjusted it with a meter hooked up to get under 1volt. Believe we set it at .96 and it ran like a champ! Oh and by the way I see you wearing that red and black, I wear that orange and blue! Let’s make a friendly wager on the Florida/Georgia game! No money, losing team has to rep the other guys team on their ride, what do you say?
Great Story here with Free Information. 1963 fairlane station wagon. 1990 5.0 Stock Roller HO with AOD Trans. replaced the EFI with a 4100 1.08 Carb on a 1985 aluminum intake. Replaced the distributer with points and condenser - nutty right?. Fires up like an EFI and runs so smooth. Plenty of reliable safe power. No frustrations. Again, its free information to throw away its free. I'm not smart enough to count voltage out 3 decimal places. I know that EFI will win races now..........I can smoke the 14's off the rim if needed to snatch that aluminum jon boat out of the boat ramp.
The rule is. If it's chugging its rich and if it's pinging its lean. Always refer to the factory TPS voltage setting and factory timing. Also, on the AOD transmission you have to be very careful with the line pressure, you can cook the trans real fast with too much line pressure and lope the car with too little.
The best way to set idle is to do a base idle reset. To do that you need to unplug the IAC, tps spout connector to keep the ecu from being thrown off. You will most likely need to turn the idle screw in a few turns after doing this. NOW start the car. The goal is to get the car just barely idling at around 400rpm. Once this achieved shut off the car, plug everything back in and start the car back up. The Car should be good but if it's not make small adjustments and wait at least a few min between adjustments to let the ecu catch its breath.
I never get codes probably because I pulled the bulb out behind check engine light. My car is a little different I don’t run O2 sensors, 1 is blocked off the other is a wide band. Not recommended unless you them shutoff in the tune.
Hey Brother another awesome video. Car is looking absolutely unrecognizable. Almost makes me want a calypso now😬😳. I do have to say one thing. In relation to the one tooth off thing. It’s really a bad myth that these cars can be “ a tooth off”. In theory if the plug wires allowed for it. You can spin the entire distributor 360* to gain or retard the timing to where it needs to be. Timing is timing no matter the tooth placement. What will happen and can happen is that being in the incorrect position won’t allow you to properly reach the timing setting you desire, from the plug and module hitting the thermo housing. But 14* is 14* and so on and so on. I just wanted to throw that out that and clear up some confusion. Rock on 🤘
Dang, this sounds like the problem im having with mine...ive replaced all the sensors except o2 and just like u said ive got no power, poppin back...cant really push the gas...gonna do some more lookin at it later today
So, just a thought, try some of that BOOSTANE and see if you can run more timing. Or maybe an ethanol conversion? Id love to see this old iron block run with more timing, more out of curiousity than anything. BTW, I'm binge watching all your vids right now, so that vid could be up by the time i finish these. LOL
My Foxbody starts up and runs great for one minute thirty seconds. Then runs lean ( off scale on the AFR gauge) for the next minute and fifteen or so. Then after 2:45 it runs great again.
I'm not a ford guy but I do love the mustang with that being said. I bought one a 90 mustang gt love it runs and drive fine when I bought it. Few month later started running like shit. I replace parts after parts after parts still no fix. I need help I don't want to sell it but I'm getting frustrated throwing parts at it.
What’s the best torque converter to feel the true torque of my car? What’s the best aod stock set up to compete with t5 I already have 373s thanks great channel . I plan on keeping all stock car only has 38,000 miles thanks
Brew I seem a set of center caps for the Cobra wheels! If you want to check them it's a site called Mike's Ford part's a few sites will pop up this guy is in Colora,Maryland check him out I just never seen Cobra wheels center caps with the Cobra emblem on it!! He just built a 83 4 eye coupe t top with a Coyote motor in it! Check him out Brew I no u don't buy part's but this guy get foxbodys, SN95,all new edge mustang's !
If i recall those 94-95 gt's and i had one the computer will recalibrate it self back so u can't manually adjust it. Those computers were picky with heavy mods too and tuning was rough.
I am doing a conversion with a 5.0 HO with an AOD, l will be following this advice. On a side question, what is that paint color/ code, that's the color l have been chasing for project car!!!!! Regards Neal Qld Australia
Can you talk about the last part of the video some more? With the bucking. I have an AODE w/ stock torque converter with a B-cam and when I'm coasting at lower speeds 30--35mph and slowing down, I'm experiencing a shudder or buck. If I put in neutral, it goes away. Once I get in first gear or under 10-15mph, it goes away. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Eventually I plan on swapping to a manual, but right now I just want to improve the drivability.
Got a stock carb foxbody new tci streetfighter aod transmission but put a stock torque converter. With new nos system 373 gears. subframe connectors. What stall do I use? Has drag radials
Have you ever had an AOD car on the dyno? What would be the proper way to get it to hold 3rd gear at a lower rpm, or would you just use 2nd gear? Thanks
My car some reason when driving from 1st it’s amazing but once it gets to 2nd it like goes into limp mod. Shakes, sputters, and bucks. 1991 mustang gt e303 cam, eledebrock intake, bigger injectors. I’ve changed about everything but I’m completely lost. Codes it throws are 34/85/41/91. I got this car on a trade for my boat, and just trying to get it to run smooth. I’m literally lost
I have a question i recently bought myself a 92 ford mustang gt 5.0 convertible a few months ago for some reason it started overheating it has like 3 modifications ford racing spark plug wires bbk headers and h pipe mufflers i just replace the overflow sensor with the radiator reservoir and radiator cap and it still overheats i burp the air on the radiator coolant but it still overheats my concern is i hope is not the head gaskets the guy who sold it to me told me it needed a fan clutch any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
So I got a new cable and put it in with the v&m Hammer shifter and the shifter cable geometry isn't right so it's at an angle what can I do to fix that without buying more parts
I had drop my tps to 80. Or it would lunge. Its AOD. 86. Set timing to 0 any more it wasnt fun. I hate the lunging. Gotta do pinion bearing because of it.
Rodcognito 00 you have some issues. Timing can’t be set to zero. I’m thinking timing gun isn’t working correctly. Or you aren’t pulling spout connector. Something is out of whack
Why is it that it is said that so long as the tps is within spec - .6 to 1.2 it doesn't matter and that the ecm handles it from there. How is it that you're finding success with voltage adjustment? Did you pull any codes? Your TPS is probably bad, and it being an AOD has nothing to do with it.
Help! I order a new neutral safety switch for my aod transmission but the new one has 5 pins and the original one has 4. Can i still used the one with the 5 pins ?? Thanks 84 mustang
man, im struggling right now with my Fox tps is at .96 tps but its trippen out car dosent rev out all the way replaced a ton of parts and im just over it
CN1990 5.0 Fun Now that I am thinking about it I bought my car with the conversion all ready done and I have no idea if a different ECU was installed. So maybe I am no help. Not sure how I’d be able to determine if the ECU was swapped out
Any advice would be great. I have a 1993 5 speed swap with a A9P computer. Last i checked my TPS was .97 and my timing is at 14degrees, I have cleaned my MAF changed wires and plugs and coil, and TFI. My car persists to be problematic. After not running the car for about a week it will start just fine, with a tiny bit of surge for about 10sec, then the idle will straighten out and it will stay on and warm up normally. Now if i decide to drive the car and park it, for about 4hours to 24hours when I go to start the car it will surge, miss badly and want to die for about 5min. I need to constantly pump the throttle to keep her alive. Also, after getting her to operating temp the check engine light will pop on anywhere under 2500rpm when I press the throttle and then go away 5sec later.
I just bought a 91 lx and the guy I got it from done some mods. He put in a B cam ported gt40 heads, stall converter and it runs like pure shit idk what the problem is y'all please help, it's my dream car and I want to be able to drive it
Your car should never buck whether it’s an automatic or manual transmission! I can drive my 93 cobra all day long at 35 MPH in fifth gear and have zero bucking! I was able to do it when it was new and I am still able to do it now with gears exhaust and a supercharger! If your car is bucking something is wrong, Even if you have a small cam such as a E or B303!
