My dear friend, this is truly an inspiring video to experience. It's absolutely soothing and relaxing to watch and let the experience speak for itself. As someone who travelled a lot and got lost in life, lost all the passion, the drive, the hunger for exploration I finally managed after years getting back out there, getting the feeling of an adventure and what it means to experience again the great feeling hiking, exploring, and travel gives you. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I am moved and inspired by you and the knowledge you share. Wishing you the best.
Great video! You always make us chuckle with your rants. As for the Thermarest pad loosing air I sent mine in after 5 years of use and Thermarest sent me a new one. It ended up it was something with my valve. It took about 10 weeks to receive a new pad but I still got it. There are no other pads like those cozy air mattresses. Happy trails! Thanks for all the laughs and videos.
Pillow? Slip your shoes/boots under your head at night, maybe with a shirt or piece of foam on top for comfort. 😂 Too bad about the Uber Light losing air all night, but it saves times on packing in the morning 👍
The two things you don't talk about are the best ones to avoid! Aside from that, first time viewer, excellent pack for that trip. I just subscribed with notifications. Cheers.
Send the Thermarest back to them to test. They’ve had problems with the internal baffles. When I sent my pad in for repair they said it would take 8-10 weeks. After a week they told me it was a baffle problem and sent me a new one asap. Love my NeoAir XLite wide. The 25” makes a world of difference vs the 20”!
Amazing, the Enchantments are a top bucket-list hike for me, can't wait to see the trip video! Also, I'd love to see a video on your food selection and how you get 5 days' worth to weigh 5.5 pounds.
Awesome video! Would love to see a food video. You mentioned you dropped weight in food, was that because you took too much last time or just tried lighter food? Thanks Bryce!
Hey Bryce. just got back from my CT hike. I have had the uberlite for about three years now and not once have I had to put more air in it. It must be a defect with that one. It got down in the 30's every night and I had no issues. I see you have another vid on the Uberlite. Getting caught up on vids after two weeks so maybe you found something there. Just wanted to tell you mine is fine. I'm a warm sleeper so I can handle this pad down to those temps. But no issues at all with deflation.
the whole video was me seeing how you were becoming a west coast high altitude hiker...the lessons you've learned are obvious in your new loadouts.....up until the chair...G Damnit. back to the drawing board. Signed Them and Us Nice trip. I just got back from the sierra's last night....can you say ZERO bugs. What a magical bonus OMG 13lbs!? It's like you don't even look at the chair...# make it 12.
I thru hiked the Timberline Trail last month, it'd been on my list since I saw your trip report of it a few years back, I'm glad to know that I was in the ballpark of your base weight. We did 4 days 3 nights and my pack weighed 27.5 lbs full w food etc.
@@neilquinn We had good weather but always set up your rainfly, we almost didn't the last night and that was the night we had some rain. Water was available the whole trip except for the section between Cloud Cap and Newton Creek though there was some snow melt to be had. Depending on where you plan to camp and how early you get there, a smaller footprint tent could be good. I used my X Mid 2p and the footprint on that tent is HUGE, which dictated which sites we set up in.
@@neilquinn Mine had the biggest footprint of any tent I saw out there. I do believe the exterior is wider and longer than most other tents. Its like 8 feet by 6 feet or something. Its giant.
What kind of firearm do you carry for these 5 day hikes ? If you carry no firearm I suggest an Orion flare gun with a 22 adapter. If you ever really had a conflict with wildlife the flares should scare them also you could alert any planes or people in the area and if you felt it necessary to put the adapter in you’d have a single shot 22 and that could save your life in the worst situations. Also do you carry a leatherman or what kind of multi tool also I need hunk you should have a splint set etc and maybe a musical instrument like a mouth harp or harmonica. - I don’t hike ultra light but I love knowing that my gear is long lasting and I could basically live easily in the wild ( I know this is a weird one but my favorite gear I picked up recently is a great kilt. It’s like a Scottish kilt but is thick wool and has like so many uses and you can wear it and sleep in it in the winter. It’s a great peice of kit
Hydro-Blu has built-in caps, both ends have built-in standard 28-mm LifeWater threads (so no blue-adapter is necessary), it's smaller than Sawyer and it weighs an ounce less than Sawyer. Flow-rate is second only to Sawyer.
Awesome, Bryce! The Enchantments are some of the most beautiful places to camp in the US. I camped at Colchuck Lake looking out my tent at Dragontail Peak to the morning light and watched the sunset splash an array of colors over it at night. Did this for my 66th birthday with my twin sister. Definitely hike your own hike and don't lose any sleep over the naysayers! It's not worth it. I too carry my Helinox Chair Zero all over and appreciate it in camp after a long hike. Did you go up over Aasgard Pass and see any Mountain Goats?
As I recall, the 2nd day your pack weighed a lot more those last few hundred feet of Asgard! 😎( still grateful for that) Great load out vid there Byron! 😂
Hi Bryce - Regarding your nitrile gloves (and numb fingers). I'm wondering if you have Reynaud's Disease (don't worry - it's not more debilitating than the numb fingers and toes that you already have experienced). Anyway . . . look it up . . .
I would love to see how you go about meals. I'm wanting to do a trip this summer (the enchantments are only 2 hours from where I live so that sounds nice) and I'm gonna be gathering food. How do you make meals for an extended weekend?
@ 3.6 Oz, it's the 16Oz size. Has a top with a seal and a flippy thing to cover mouth hole. On paper I thought the toaks 450 with cozee was like 4.2 Oz. LMK What you think. I will respond this time Thanks
There's no leak in your Uberlite. Mine and everyone i know's does the same thing. Our working theory is the air just goes out of the pad material like osmosis or something. Just gotta blow up it up once or twice a night.
@@JamesPanning Yea I can't understand how something that goes flat in the middle of the night, every night still has so many fanboys. I mean there are only like 90 alternatives.....give or take a few ounces.
@@JamesPanning It happens with lots of pads actually. The warm air you breathe into a pad becomes cold and shrinks in volume. Plus the materials stretch when there is weight on them, hence needing to blow up pads during the night. Outdoor Vitals has an explanation video on the subject.
Does the 35L pack have a sit-pad built into it? Do you use it under your sleeping pad, or do you use something else (or nothing)? Debating whether the extra weight is worth bringing another layer to put between my sleeping pad and the tent floor to protect the pad.
I bought a MyPillow after watching your review of it and think it’s great! My wife uses it to rest her neck on road trips, as well. I’d subscribe twice if I could!! 😇
13 lbs is pretty light. I see a few areas I could lose weight on. Clothes especially. It's really too bad that Outdoor Vitals pissed me off and had bad customer service because they look like they keep making gear people like. Oh well. Thanks for the shakedown.
@@TheNypenfan he may have been abducted by aliens... Or Dan Becker indoctrinated him at one point with all this mad talk about fanny packs and pillows.
Way to score Enchantment permit, was up there few days ago but in the Stuart core, way less crowded, had 2 run in w bears, they ignored me and my “hey bears” 😂
My Uber light leaks also. I used it for the third time last night. It leaked for the third time. I reserve that pad for when weight is important. Otherwise I hate it. It sounds like I’m sleeping on a latex balloon.
My main backpack is Fjāllråven Keb 72L which is 5 times heavier than yours 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I barely fit everything I need for my 3-5 days in the woods. It usually weighs with food and camera gear 50-60 lbs 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 God bless
Yeah, the My Pillow guy is… something. But the man makes a decent pillow. However, I carry a Therm-a-Rest compressible foam pillow on most trips, and I don’t give a flip who knows it.
Great video! I love seeing these load out videos. I was able to stay in the Enchantments in the summer of 2020 (been entering the lotto for it over 13 years up to that point). It was amazing in every respect...and since it was the 2nd week of September, there were no bugs at all. Looking forward to seeing where you camped and getting your thoughts on things!
I don't like the toothpaste pills. I squeeze enough toothpaste that I'll need for my trip into a small, ziplock plastic pill bag ( from Walgreens ) . Very lightweight .
I like the My Pillow pillow. It's comfortable & pretty light for a more legit pillow. The asshats who gave you flack for...speaking about...a pillow, are useful idiots and can't see the reality of things for themselves. The truth does not care about anyone's opinion...soon they will see the error in their ways. Great loadout...trip looked awesome!👍

For those of us that don't take camera equipment (which is not included in anyones base weight), we can afford a chair and a table....4+ lbs of camera equipment is OK -- but people freak out over a 1 lb chair??? I just don't get it.
@@dustythomas2598 I was only reacting to his surprise that his base weight was higher than he thought it would be. It was the chair and heavier tent that put him over. I often bring a chair. And camera gear is part of base weight even though they often don’t count it. My camera is my phone and I count it
Get a Hikenture pillow. It’s inflatable, inexpensive, machine washable, feels like a real pillow, and I’m pretty sure its CEO isn’t in line to be indicted for the Jan 6 insurrection 😂.
0:35 I can’t help but laugh when RU-vidrs rock a Fanny pack, but no hip belt. So you get the weight of a belt, without the full utility of a belt. Why not just have a backpack with a belt that has fanny-pack-sized storage?
If you refuse to mention a brand because the founder has religious beliefs, I think that's actually much more of a political statement than you're intending. Lots of the brands are openly politically left. The problem is MyPillow is on the right, and people on the left are much less tolerant So, unless you plan on never mentioning a brand again, you're discriminating against mentioning one on the right because of the bullies/trolls in the comments. How exactly is that an act of fairness?
I just read up on the MyPillow fiasco, and Bryce is right to stay as far from that mess as possible. The CEO of the MyPillow practically canceled his own brand by having suspect opinions on the insurrection.
