Wow! You are SUPER thurough! Most backyard pond builds I've seen are just digging a hole, routing a singular filtration system, and adding a bed liner and that's it. You have truly gone above and beyond. I don't doubt this is a very expensive build that your Koi`s will thank you for

Another brilliant video Carl,That pond looks wicked and amazing and i cannot wait for the final finished set up 👏👏👏 I use to have a koi pond myself many years ago (although mine was brick built semi raised and much more modest than your incredible structure. I also use to keep marine fish and even now there is nothing more satisfying than watching fish swim about and hear running water. Nowadays i just have a few water features in the garden which gives me serenity.

Your words are true, my brother like koi with one color, he has Saragoi [the only dark blue in our pond] and chagoi both grow big and has humps which makes more lovely for koi. (it was also in the mind of my brother, a single color koi and a koi with small tail& fins tends to grow big, not just there are friendly fish but also good eaters)

Uhhh.... those Single colored kois get me every time. Outstanding choice!! They will look awesome in that pond through the Window. Imagine sitting in Front of it after a long Day and just feel the Stress and exhaustion melt and you get calm and peaceful....

You should had connected the garden bed with the pond itself. Imagine how amazing that would be .

That looks marvelous. If it is any consolation about the fibre glass when my Dad built his 18 ' by 16' by 5' koi pond. He went for a butyl liner with sand and carpet underneath. So the liner was huge. He refused all help because it was his vision. Unfortunately he put it in side ways! Then started to fill the pond to help it bed in. I have never heard so much swearing when he realised his mistake as it didn't quite fit that way round. But fair dues he redid it and it looked amazing like your pond will. :)

Can't believe you got that 80+ karashi... So happy for you Carl, you are absolutely right about the one color koi. Somehow they get massive so quick. Very excited about the finished project with all the fish in it. Still you need a doitsu. Konishi doitsu karashi are worth a look believe me. 1m+ easy... They are huge. Carl, you're probably one of the very few hobbyists in this world with that kind of specialised pond without a kohaku, sanke or showa in it 😆😆😆 but kudos to you man for sticking to your guns. The decision to have it partly above ground and having a viewing window is genius. You're gonna be so rewarded in the long run.

Looking great Carl! you will find the upward downwards flow caused by the aeration from the bottom drains will clear the base of the pond better. They work a treat, enjoy.

Wow Carl. Just mesmerising, and I know how calming this little bit of paradise is going to be for your general mental health, away from the cameras. I get what the bigger picture will be for you! Just don't sell up immediately!!! 😂 I'm a gardener, and I'd keep the planting scheme in a Japanese style with Red and green leafed Japanese Acers but the finely leafed varieties! (fantastic reds and yellows in autumn will go nicely with the fish within!!😉, bamboos BUT BE CAREFUL with these as the roots are invasive and will cause issues (probably stay away from those even though they're nice)definitely fine grasses and absolutely have some ferns hostas etc buddy!! Your dad will help with these, 😉😉 I'm sooooooo made up for you, and I'd love to one day have something like this if I could! I'd love the science behind running the pumps and filtration units too, so interesting!! Giving you and Carl a virtual big pat on your backs, what an inspiration you guys are to us!

I think it would be awesome to add in a nice mirror carp. Obviously only if that works with the koi but it sure would add in a nice touch.

Carl you say about you wanted the filter house breathable etc. I’d recommend fitting some for of vents to help ventilate it.

My only criticism is you should have gone for a heat pump, I had an electric heater and it was costing me around £60 a week to heat my pond (before the cost of energy went up) the air source heat pump costs around £5 per week. Can't wait to see the finished project!
