James Reeves over at TFB was using velcro shotgun shell rings. Keep a few of them loaded in your rig and when you use all of the shells on the side of the gun, you pull off the empty velcro rings, and slap a full one on the side of the gun.

When you started talking about how much it cost, at first, I was like "$800 isn't too bad" but then the expenses just kept piling on and piling on... I've gotta say that $2500 + for a single gun is definitely a bundle.
You're a lefty like me. At Gunsite, I was the only lefty so the Instructors would razz me and say, "Defective shooters on the far left." This defective shooter beat out the entire class in the head-to-head competition on the final day.
Happy that I got my 1301 back in 2018 shipped for $630 new in box. It was the old model being clearanced when the new one came out. Should have bought 3!
John, I don't know if I blogged on here before but I've just got a tricked out Mossberg with a collapsible stock and red dot on top and it'll do the job 500 pump-action. And that would be pistol grip as well made for the Mossberg you know you can actually put some cool stuff in the handle like a tampon to plug a hole or cleaning stuff, or a snack...???
My set up is a 20ga. Mossberg shockwave birds head firearm with an SMC brace and single point sling. Coast modded weapon light with a hi-viz fiber optics beam sight. Onboard brown coat arsenal side saddle with an extra card. Intruders or home invaders expression when they get lit up in the beam? Priceless. And the other 900.00 - still in the bank.
For a semi auto shotgun Berettas are the most reliable. They are less ammo picky than Benellis. They also fire low powered loads reliably. This is the one to get if you want a semi auto shotgun that goes boom everytime.
One way to make sure more ammo is handy in the event of a home defense use would be to turn three velcroed ammo cards sideways on the gun so they are attached. Then when grabbing the gun they would already be attached. Take two and stuff your pockets and orient one correctly.
The laws here in Australia prohibit semi auto so I'm stuck with a double under/over that said. I'm running a Stoega tactical 18 inch with a 1650 powered 300 lumen surefire ghost ring rear sight and standard front sight ! Overall length 945mm perfect for tight hallways!
Nice rig, John! What else can you add? For starters, a second one. (Two is one... His & Hers) And you can add a whole bunch of AMMO (very rare these days). Constant training. You could hang an IFAK from the extended mag tube, or an extra tourniquet on the sling, or both...
My shotgun is out of the box Mossberg 930spx “blackwater “ with a sling. Great shooter, hundreds of rounds through it not one hiccup. Kinda like the old Timex just keeps on ticking. Right around $400 invested.
What about a bayonet stud ? perish the thought you have a malfunction and are in close quarters like a hallway and the jam won't immediately clear, and this fool is running at you with a similar jam. Yeah I know, pretty far reached, but hey at least I'm watching. I am 82 and if my wife saw me headed down that hallway with that beauty, she would freak out, and the dog would probably attack me. I have a Beretta but it's an M92 from my police days. My department issued me a Ruger 9mm, but I went the extra mile and bought my own weapon.
Bennilli is stupid expensive but basic Beretta is a little less stupid. Getting the extras might be stupid but sign me up as well once they become available.
You can always do a long barrel hunting pump shotgun. If you need to barrel shorter, cut it to legal length and put a front snap on fiber optic sight. There's also the shockwave/tac 13/14. With a brace, they are close to an sbs but that will Probbaly be over $600 in today's market.
Current retail on the base gun is about $1250. One thing to keep in mind -- even if you WANT to trick one out like John's you don't have to do that all at once.
From a Benelli owner, that gun is sick as f. I still need to do a similar build on mine with a few variations (no Magpul options 😔, different light, Aimpoint T2, etc.). About as perfect a shotgun setup as you can get.
I picked up a Pro Series X pump action from Black Aces Tactical. Spent the extra and went with the combo. It's similar to a Maverick 88 but comes with ghost ring sights standard. Scored it on sale for $600 out the door. Check them out.

The gun looks great. I've always been afraid to put a lot of money into a home defense shotgun because if I unfortunately ever had to use it, it might take forever to get it back from the police after an investigation.
But if it saved your life, it has done its job and praise God for having it. Simple as that. I always assume I will never see a gun again once it's been used in a defensive encounter and I am fine with that.
I give my dad a little 25auto raven.he shot at an attacker with 7 time ( mist ) got it back in 3 day (Fri - Mon ).my brother got pulled over with loaded gun ( 45acp kimber $1500. ) in the trunk it took 6 months to get back.but yes if it saves ur life guess it's worth it.
I have the LE model, Vortex red dot, Surefire light, and ESSTAC side saddle, and I'd say I'm in the hole about as much as you... but my goodness, does she RUN.
Damn that’s expensive. I put a recoil compensating stock, a +2 barrel extension, and a tac light on my $300 Remington 870 for a grand total of about $700. Hope the performance boost you get for that gun at $2100 more is worth it. Me? No way

@@ASPextra I’m not even sold on semi-auto shotguns for defense. More to go wrong when you don’t want it to. What goes wrong with a pump? I know things can, but it is significantly less common than a semi-auto
I can't even shoot buck shot in my indoor range, and there's no outdoor ranges around here unless you go to an old guys club and even then you can't really shoot how to want. It's all little competition games with 22s. Go figure I live in maine too so there's plenty of woods around, they're just mostly private property and I don't own any land.
Chuck Haggard ran a Maverick 88 at Rangemaster Shotgun Instructor in June just to see if it would make it. It did! Didn't pattern real awesome, but it ran!

Say "Hello!" to the gang there over at C2 North Scottsdale. I sure do miss seeing everybody, especially my long conversations with Ricky down the hall at Valley Forge Weaponry. Poor guy hardly gets any work done when I'm there to distract him! Make sure you hit up 'Mr. Mesquite' in the same shopping complex as C2 Tactical. They're located only a few hundred yards west of the shop. You can thank me later! Lastly, is this filmed in the Area 338 part of the range? I've always been put-off by indoor ranges due to an unfortunate event at the local Shooter's World on 28th Street way back in the day. That kind of traumatic situation sticks with you for life. It was because of this event that my Father insisted on grooming me as an Expert Marksman on the 1000 yard range at Ben Avery Shooting Facility. I literally spent half of my entire youth at that facility (even before all their new fancy upgrades you now see everywhere). However, given that this is Arizona with our atrocious Summer heat index; I have been leaning more and more towards indoor ranges. Some people prefer SCG while others swear by C2 Tactical. If I had my choice - it would be Jim Jones Shooting Range in Payson, AZ all day, every day! Something about the High Country Pines and those smaller (localized) membership ranges that just seem more appealing and (more importantly) _relaxing_ according to my wife. She absolutely *hates* public ranges because of...well..._the public._ But lets face it - a hot babe shooting guns is _always_ going to be distracting! Stay classy my friend.
Yeah. I mean, in a genuine crisis, it’ll get the job done which is all that matters. I put a light and a recoil compensating stock and a +2 tube extension on mine and that’s it. Practical stuff for reasonable prices
@@GregBarfuss what benelli m4 could you buy for the retail price of $200 which is what the maverick 88 costs, or the $400 I spent on my 870 including the upgrades? Or am I misunderstanding?
