I can tell you from experience that they will NOT send us backers a replacement. Us non-influencers get the run around and it turns into a fight.

Thanks for that info as person looking to replace/add to my ORIGIONAL ender 3 thats been pushed to its limits with new boards/hotend/ectruder/bed surfaces it a good piece of information to know if a kickstarted backer gets the runaround then a normal customer is even lower in priority to a company like that. So I can spend my money elsewhere.

@@stevviebWell yes and no. Then you are missing an exceptional experience. I i'm still not covinced by the quality a Bambu spits out. I come from a slow but Well tuned Ender 3 and Well... the surface quality outperformed everything a Bambu can put Out. But! This Ender 3 took years to get perfect. It's a hackjob. Bambu is the Apple. Everything just works nice. The AMS is nowhere else found. So yes you can find a better printer with better Support but you wont find a better overall experience... i promise you. Quality wise ... Well for me would now be a K1 with a ton of community mods. But that's a Heck of Work again

Yes it seems a lot of the companies like Bambu give you a run around if even a solution especially if you bought the unit from a 3 party, and then months to get the repair part since being shipped on the "Slow Boat"

I really appreciate the fact that when you contacted the manufacturer that you presented yourself as just an average consumer, or like you said average Joe LOL hahaha. It's a bummer that they discovered who you really were for the resolution was completed. Thanks for your honest reviews / opinion.

Actually, the sudden change in Bambu's behavior; sending a full printer for free once they found out who this 'average Joe' was vs having to buy spare parts before they knew is all the more telling. I wouldn't have expected the average backer to ever receive a new printer after a year of operation, to be honest, and all in all this is a story that has to be told. Well done doing so transparently and honestly Joe!

I 100% believe they treated you differently, I've had a few defective minor pieces and I had to go through several emails and videos to send a $10.00 part to the point that I was going to submit a return on it since it was less than 2 weeks old. It's unfortunate that special treatment is only recognized when you have a presence on RU-vid.

It's a question of Marketing vs CS, I guess. It's not unusual for marketing to get special and even exceptional response, because it's expected that that will result in more sales, where as CS is just goodwill.

I have a kikstarter machine as well, and I have had to change several things in the printer itself, such as fans, hot end boards, etc. I have also changed a couple of the 1st stage feeders, but bought them as soon as they were available, and so have the ones that are compatable. For the price I paid, I would expect 3-5 years of use, at least. I understand having to replace components occasionally, but, still it's a sizable investment. FYI - The machine I ordered last December has had nothing replaced in it. (The printer, not the AMS) I have actually had more trouble with my two newer AMSs than with my kickstarter one.

So I bought a P1S and a month to the day later it quit powering on properly. It would let me start a print from studio but not the screen, as the screen was just lighting up. Support assured me they would walk me though fixing it whilst also promising it would be fixed in the end. I know the printer is only a month old, and I guess when it was built the cable between the MC and the AP board was not fully seated on the AP board side. After I clicked it in all the way (as support linked me to a guide about) it has been working perfectly. Just wanted to share as nobody ever shares the good with their support.

i have confidence in bambu as a company. i'm impressed with everything i have seen from my bambu labs A1 so far. the ease of use. the quality. the looks. the speed. the power use. even the packaging it came in was impressive. the fact that the original A1 had a bed cable problem and the one i ordered was already a V2 that had the problem solved. you just won't know if the actual product you buy is as good as it looks YET. there might be an issue with your product but i think they will deffinatly help you. and their development team is deffinatly quick to come up with an improvement on the same design.

I just got my first Bambu X1C with AMS this last weekend. I do have higher expectations on the support with them than I do with Creality. The support i've heard from others is one of the reasons I got it as well as the mulit-material support. I have Creality's and I'm not afraid to wrench on them but I wanted the Bambu so I had one printer I didn't have to wrench on much. I hope the support does not suffer because I'm just a Joe in the world.
@OhImKiCkiN

As much as I love my Bambu machines, Ive had MUCH better customer support from Creality. Ive been going back and forth with BL support over a simple defective build plate. The past few times I needed Creality support they simply asked for a picture and description of the issue and I was shipped a new part within 24-48 hours. It did take Creality a few days to respond initially, but afterwards they resolved my issues quickly. With the premium we pay for these BL machines Id expect their customer service to be superior to what it is.
@3dpprofessor
@3dpprofessor 9 месяцев назад
@@OhImKiCkiN That's funny, I've had the exact opposite experience with Creality. One that that I really appreciate with Bambu is they document everything. Every time a support person asked me to do something, they had a wiki page documenting how to do it. That's a resource Creality could definitely learn from.
@OhImKiCkiN
@OhImKiCkiN 9 месяцев назад
@@3dpprofessor True. I have to say that BL has stepped their support up in past month, it seems. They've responded promptly, and sent replacement parts very quickly. However, it could be that the more machines one purchases, the better the support. I hope that's not the case though. I say this because when I had 4 BL machines their support was lacking. Now that I've added an additional 20+ BL machines their support is near instant. I really do hope theyd do the same now for someone that only has a single unit.

I had some issues with my AMS but it was because I was using cardboard spools with those adaptor rings, until I got fed up and printed spools to replace the cardboard spools. Problem solved! All reviews I see regarding the AMS are people doing heavy color printing. I see the AMS more like a convenience to handle materials but I focus more on functional builds so I seldom print multicolor and definitely avoid printing multicolor with multiple filament change per layer. SO if you really use the AMS so heavily it is likely to wear soon or produce issues quickly. In the end it is an accessory full of relative fragile moving parts. I don't think they can make it more robust without cost going crazy so if you print multicolor often expect a higher failure rate than others. Still this kind of review is really valued and I like the approach and the honesty. For the regular hobbyst printing a few items per week Bambu seems to be an awesome product and I think it will last for at least 5 years without issue. For production the printer should be fine, but we need to wait until that time and see. However, reviews must compensate for the output/time and not just time. This printers can churn stuff at a much higher rate than most models that have passed the test of time, so comparisons must adapt to the new circumstances. Maybe a 3 years life cycle in a production environment is much better if you have 2 Bambu Labs doing the same job than 5 Prusas that will live for 5 years. I expect people will keep making reviews every few months to report on the endurance and reliability of their printer.
@andrewr6861

Everyone watching this video wants to know the long-term review. I expect the printer to last just as long as a laptop from the same price point (about 5 years). When I recommend the printer I tell people it will print great out of the box for a beginner, but don't expect to be able to repair it by yourself without help if not experienced and mechanically inclined. Fantastic video and love how you went about the support ticket.

You asked about "what would be a good benchmark for value?" We probably need a metric. I think a calendar is not the best marker of value. The first factor is raw (kilo)meters of plastic extruded or hours of continual operation. These numbers are tracked by the firmware and are available on most printers. Assuming you don't have to swap the motherboard out on a regular basis, which brings me to: The "fuss" factor. How many hours of human effort are expended to set the printer up. How many hours are spent repairing or maintaining the machine. How many days has the machine been idle awaiting repair/spare parts/etc. Finally the raw cost. Outside of filament, what expenses went into purchasing the machine, upgrading the machine, repairing the machine, etc. Though we do need to somehow factor in the cost of basic repairs vs. the costs of adding an additional capability.

I just ordered and received the X1C. I am new to 3d printing, 52 years old, so time is a precious commodity for me. I wanted something that worked out of the box, so I could concentrate on the maker aspect and not the tinkerer aspect. I was on the fence between the X1C and a Voron 2.4 R2 build. It was the "Influencers" all saying the same thing, "The X1C just works" that convinced me to go with the Bambu offering. There isn't a lot of information about the longevity of the AMS units, so your content is very much welcomed and encouraged! Keep up the great, unbiased, and honest reporting.

Admittedly, it did work right out of the box. You'll have a great time with it. And, the rest of my CX1 is working fine. It's just the AMS that crapped out after a year. Turns out there's a good reason, but I'll have a follow up video about that soon.

I have had similar experiences, but way more of them. I eventually gave up, the printer was simply not reliable at all. I found that running carbon fiber through it all helped some, but clearly it is a tolerance issue. . Bambu has been making so many changes and no longer really support anything from previous machines and it is kind of disheartening.. Being closed source, if they stop supporting something, you are SOL as you have found out. I had a similar issue when they recognized me as a creator, however I paid for my machine. I was at the end of the road, no further things, the machine was simply not working. When they realized I was a content creator the entire conversation changed and they were now willing to help again. THEY DO NOT PROVIDE THE SAME SUPPORT TO NORMAL USERS and that is a huge issue. I refused any special treatment and dug my heels in, my second X1 Carbon has been returned as another lemon. Real issues overall. Support inconsistency, especially when they recognize you are a creator, is a MASSIVE issue that they need to get figured out :/ I am glad they solved your issue, but yeah, we both know they would not do this for a normal user..

I've x1c since April 2023, almost 2000 hours of printing, mostly Fiberlogy ABS, was my first printer, at this point I'm into 3D printing all the way. I'm creating things that was never available to me, like huge 3D maps. Do I trust Bambu as a company? Like any other company with their claims, means not at all :D Do I recommend this as starting printer? Yes, all the way. Why? I've manny friends, that bought some cheep 3D printers, and at some point they dropped using them, because the constantly failed prints. With bambu, without any experience you can print reliably, and I think this is most important thing in their printers, User Experience, that just works.

Using proprietary parts and not stocking them is a deal breaker for me. Given the cost of this printer it borders on fraud. If you're not an "Influencer" you're out of luck. In EU a manufacturer has to provide spare parts for discontinued products for reasonable period. What is reasonable is not specified in the law but for refrigerators it's 10 years, for washing machines 7 years. So for a 3d printer which is really not discontinued, they should still have spare parts. They would get a fine if you reported them to a proper authority and be forced to replace the unit.

I have had similar issues with my Kickstarter AMS. With a long path to the print head and multiple driving mechanisms for the filament, i no longer expect any filament to work. I stick with filament that has proven AMS friendly. I use the back for the ones that have not worked well in the AMS. Filament that has inconsistent diameters or isn’t straight or true may have too much drag or worse. Some spools rotate poorly in the AMS and I’m not talking about cardboard ones, so I avoid those too. It has reduced the situation to occasional problems. The AMS is very cool, but it’s not bullet proof, so I have tried to adjust to that reality accordingly. It’s good to know ahead of time that there are no spare parts for Kickstarter AMS units and that even a new AMS unit may not work with the Kickstarter X1 Carbon. Thanks for keeping us all informed. This printer has been a game changer for me and has made 3D printing much more enjoyable. I’m waiting for the larger one.

a lot of fair comments here but also it feels like Bambu are being put in a lose-lose situation by everyone. they treated you well as an influencer, will they treat everyone the same? probably not, and neither will most companies do they have longevity? as you pointed out we can’t know that yet, but you didn’t exactly sound promising either. it very much sounds like you expect them to fail, and your experience with a KS (essentially pre-production unit) doesn’t hold much ground, especially when you are holding physical proof that they have addressed some preproduction issues (again, you pointed this out in a way too) so what does this video actually achieve then? it gets you views (your job, i know) but more importantly it feeds into the constant negativity in our space lately everyone’s gotta pick a side, and if they don’t they are going to get pushed out of the hobby

I have an X1carbon combo for 4 month now and I love it! It just works! I have two other Ender 3 d printers an 3V2 that I substantially upgraded and a 3S1pro a that needs -constant maintenance and tweaking to get a decent prints from them. They work but half the time I spend doing something to them to get decent 3D prints. My experience with Bambu Lab had been the opposite, it just works! I have yet to change any parts on the printer. I do the regular maintenance suggested by Bambu Lab and that’s it! It works flawlessly! I have over 1800 hours on the X1 Carbon and two AMS and have not had any issues at all other that sporadic filaments retraction from the AMS. Correction I just changed the blade to cut the filament after over 1700 hours . That’s it! I don’t know how it will hold up over the next few years but I am loving my X1carbon and even though of getting a second one although I would prefer to waits until they come out with a larger version of the X1Carbon hopefully coming out soon! My Ender 3V2 was not getting much use at all so I gave it to a friend and my Ended 3S1Pro is still in use but not much and will likely not get any use when I get my second Bambu Lab printer.

It's great that you had a very nice experience with your X1C. But to be fair to the Ender 3v2 and S1 Pro, they are 1/4 and 1/3 of the price of an X1C resp. (and Creality has never been a company that is renowned for good QC and exceptional service)
@EdGodoyPlana

@@_MicZ_ I realize that the Bambu Lab XiCarbon is much more expensive than the Ender printers. But Bambu Lab just came out with the A1 that cost about the same as the Prusa Mini even with the 4 color combo and the the Ender and from everything I read its night and day compared to any other printer at its price point including the Prusa. The only thing I can't tell you is how the X1C will hold ups over time since I have only had it for 4 month. However these 4 month have been flawless. I understand that the original printers and specially the AMS that came with the original backers are not the same as the ones sold now, since they have been upgraded these past year. I didn't get the original X1C when they were sold over a year ago because they were new and no one had any experience with them more than a few weeks. I decided to wait a year since they had been in the market and I am extremely happy with it. I am waiting for a larger version of the X1C when it comes out to buy my second Bambu Lab printer. If I was going to recommend a 3D printer to a beginner I would suggest that they look at the A1 from Bambu Lab.

I think the downside of the AMS is that it's full of "consumable" parts. But it seems people keep using the AMS as a reason to say the "printer" has issues, but it's just an accessory to the printer. I don't personally have a Bambu (yet... it's on order), but I have been "dealing" with Creality, Ultimaker, Geetech, and Kodama (ugh) printers for about 8 years. So it sounds like Bambu is light years above those with regard to reliability. So if I have to deal with minor maintenance on the "printer" in that first year, I would say that a huge win for me. But I'm a bit jaded with maintenance nightmares and am happy to finally move on beyond those. Here's hoping the newer AMS units will be a bit nicer and have less unnecessary wear internally.

Ive contacted Bambu through opening a ticket. Took 3 weeks just to get an initial response. I went through and tested all the ports and cables with a multimeter just as they asked. They then proceeded to send a new board, buffer and cables. I replaced those but still no luck. They then sent a different board for a different part of the unit to be replaced. Still no luck. I asked for another unit but they replied with sending different parts to be changed out. Keep in mind each part takes about a week to be sent to you. Im now going on a month and a half since ive contacted Bambu. I do have orders of prints stacking up, at least its all from people i know. I am one of the Kickstarter backers that received the V1 AMS like you. I too had the exact issue of chewed up filament in first stage feeder slot 1 & 2. This AMS was brand new. Maybe 2hrs printing then it started. I lost so much filament as I had to cut off the chewed up bit then restart then fails again. A 4hr print would take me 12hrs. I was so fed up so I contacted Support. I had to go through hoops like send in video, pictures, show invoice. I must admit they were very helpful but they sent me a part that I couldn't even fit myself so I had to use my consumer protected rights so I requested a refund. That's when they said they'll send me a new AMS replacement. Oh brilliant I thought but "If you can send your AMS back then we can send you a new one" well I didn't have an AMS box and I threw away the X1C box due to lack of space. So I asked them can you send me an AMS box with padding so I can send back the faulty unit. "Sorry we can't do that" 🤔 so what am I supposed to do then? "The only way is to purchase a new AMS from our store and use that box" So you expect me to pay £350 for another AMS just to use it's box? "Yes that's correct" so I had no choice and paid for another AMS. Once I received the purchased new AMS it was V2 and I sent back the V1 Kickstarter faulty AMS in the box. I receive a new replacement AMS and that too is V2 and so far no issues with chewing up filaments yayyyy. So I will give some credit to Bambulab support for sending a replacement AMS, it would have been better if they could either sent me replacement AMS first then I could send back faulty one with box or sent me empty box with padding. It seems that RU-vidrs are getting preferential treatment as they automatically sends them and you a new AMS without you sending back the faulty one. This in my opinion is not fair to myself who had to spend more money just to get a new AMS and to the other backers and customers. Be careful recommending it. Ender 3s are the #1 most abandoned printer because the documentation is inadequate. If the person you're recommending it to isn't technically confident and willing to do some searching outside the manual, there are better printers to recommend. Bambu, Flashforge, and even their K1 they got their act together on.

I've been running into issues with my AMS for the last couple months where it struggles to load filament and constantly goes back and forth over and over until it gives up. Granted the spools I'm having the most trouble with are cardboard spools and atomic Filaments larger spools, but they fit. Even when it is able to successfully feed the filament, it just barely has enough strength to pull the filament to the extruder and almost gives up partway through. Then when it's retracting it completely overreacts and spews filament all over the inside and wraps the filament around adjacent spools. At first I thought the strength issue was a result of the PTFE tube running to the extruder being worn down, but the problem persists even after replacing it with Capricorn tubing. My printer functions perfectly fine when I load filament from outside the printer, so the problem is definitely within the AMS. I've checked the extruder gears and they're all perfectly fine. My only guess is that my motors are starting to burn out, which is crazy because I've only had my printer since December and have only done like 3 or 4 multicolor prints that require a couple hundred filament swaps. My printer hasn't gotten any crazy abuse, I print exclusively with PETG and have never run any abrasive filaments through it. I've been preparing to upgrade my AMS to the new Python AMS, which ditches Bambu's enclosure and the roller system for a geared center driven system. I'm mainly doing this because of the amazing torque that it's able to achieve with the large gears and makes the AMS compatible with ALL spools. That includes cardboard and smaller sample spools. I bought the hardware and enclosure hardware kit from Voxel, who officially licensed and partnered with Humebeam, and I purchased a spool of Bambu's PA6-GF Nylon in this gorgeous light blue to make the gears out of. I just finished my printer maintenance and I'm still waiting on the hardware kit and I need to purchase a couple spools of my favorite marble filament from Atomic that I ran out of because the new frame uses about 1.5kg of filament and the enclosure uses about 1kg. While I'm waiting I might try to learn from your experience and contact Bambu before I start modifying. Maybe I can get them to send me a new 2nd stage motor or a new set of 1st stage extruders, because that's honestly what I need. Wish me luck

Good to know the guts aren't the same, my X1C was an early Kickstarter and had the spool roller breakage issue - which USED TO HAVE a fix on the Bambu forum but it was deleted. I think it's still on Printables. There's a printable mod that reinforces the roller sockets. My P1P & AMS were a new revision immune to the issue. Was the filament chewing due to the rollers rising out of their slots and binding (I got motor overcurrent warnings)? That fix has worked for me, but I did not know the replacement parts won't fit my older AMS. I still have a problem on both AMS designs when it fails to retract and gets stuck somewhere between the AMS hub or adapter... it is NOT stuck in the head, as removing the tubing and pulling back from the head is effortless. Very annoying in multicolor prints.

I just got rid of my last cheap and heavily modified printer and am now running all Prusa because they do run year after year with little to no maintenance (but are easy to service) and now a creality K1 and K1 Max because they support an open architecture approach and the general maker community by sharing back (in their own way). Bamboo got its start by taking from our community and pulled it behind closed doors. That just rubs me the wrong way. This was 3-4 months ago (Q2 2023). They mentioned the reason that they wanted the pictures of the old boards was so they could keep track of the replacement boards and validate that the issue was because of the circuit design change that did not exist on the first ~2,000 AMS units that had the old control board. Bambu knew exactly the issue when I described it, and in fact, sent me to a Bambu Lab Wiki page with step-by-step instructions on how to disassemble the AMS, and where on the control board that they wanted the picture taken. Some would be happy if it lasts a year, some two etc. For a person doing the occasional trinket here and there I would expect it should last them at least 3-4 years or however long other household appliances tend to last. For Bambu themselves ideal is that it lasts long enough for the majority of users as not to prove unreliable and drive potential buyers away but short enough that their new producta will sell and replace the old ones. I am sure they are building them with many contraints regarding costs, longevity, serviceability, reliability. The only question is if they`ve made too much of a compromise when designing it.

I was about to pull the trigger on a Bambu printer, but I keep finding more and more reviews similar to this. After eading the comment section here, a lot of similar comments on how customer service is. When it comes to "how well a product works", I know most people come to the Internet to complain, but between the comments I have read and the Bambu's history, I don’t think I will get a bamboo at this point, it will probably be a Prusa or Ultimaker/Makerbot for something that works good enough out of the box. Also LoL. Autocorrect keeps changing Bambu to Bambi.

I bought an mk3s three years ago. Prints great. Needed some replacement parts. Ordered bearings rods pronted some parts and rebuilt it. Prints awesome. I'm scared of these closed systems once they break what do you do toss it away? I can keep the mk3s running great with a few parts and can rebuild it whenever I wish. Its easy to work on easy to replace any broken part.

I will say, it was a bit disappointing when I upgraded my hot end to a Revo (which I love) that the next firmware upgrade freaked out. I'm currently running a firmware one step behind because of this. But at least it works. It's the start of jank, but it works.

Obviously there are running changes from prototypes to influencer models. Later change in quality and compatibility should lead to new products name. Very hard to say you buy the 5yr old model and why would you? Would need to be an excellent base printer which the add-ons make the difference.

In the US at least the warranty can not be invalidated just because you mod something or work on it. Of course China doesn't care about laws but technically it's illegal to deny you service unless they can prove your mod is what broke it. It's refreshing to see some *real* criticism of this company by someone who gets a whole bunch of free stuff. I mean why hasn't _anyone_ done a complete teardown of these printers? There is almost no information. It feels like people are afraid of offend Bambu as they might get cut off either from free stuff or worse, cut off from the cloud that they control.

My PEI build plate is less than a month old and the coating is already coming off. BL support keeps demanding "the error number on the screen while im holding a piece of paper with that same number written on it." I keep telling them there is no error number for a defective build plate coating and Ive already sent multiple pics of the plate. On top of that I keep getting an error when sending them the logs they want. Hopefully theyll sort this for me soon but I have serious doubts at this point.

How many hours of printing do you have on the machine that failed? I have a non-kickstarter machine that's 6 months old but with 1,000 hours of printing on it. It's still going strong and I've only had to do about 3 hours worth of maintenance, total, since setting it up.

16hrs since posting - how’s the printer going? Bambu need to sort the waste issue. They say they are about sustainability but are nowhere near sustainable with the amount of waste they have And time to print (which takes more power). Prusa pushing that as a selling point over Bambu atm. It’s about the only thing they have on Bambu. I have 2 mk3s/3s+ and they were bought 2-3yrs ago and apart from grease they just run. Beasts for reliability!
