Episode #71
It's not everyday that we can get our inspiration for where to fish from a craft beer, but Connecticut's Lasting Brass Brewing Company has made that a reality this time around. Lasting Brass and it's Hop Brook IPA hail from Watertown, which also happens to be where we can find the modest headwaters of Hop Brook. In this episode, I grab the old 5wt and hit the water to go flyfishing for brook trout, brown trout and rainbow trout on the namesake stream of a fine, Connecticut-brewed beer.
And yeah, it did occur to me that Hop Brook could just as easily be thought of as a reference to the hoppy goodness of this IPA. But I'd like to think it's not just coincidence that the actual Hop Brook meanders through farms and forest barely 10 minutes west of the brewing floor.

Thanks for that!👍🏻 This one definitely called for a planned out filming session in addition to being on the water. More work than my usual vid, but I was pretty happy with how it came out.

Love my lil Hop Brook ! I stop and drop a few when I’m in a time crunch !! Some really really nice size wild Brookies in the stream on the backside of black rock that runs up to the Reservoir

15-20 years ago I lived in that area and used to fish Hop Brook quite often...It's one of the first places I ever used a fly rod. I think I recognize a few of those pools and pockets...lol. Good job...I don't get out much these days so I very much enjoy your videos.

It was definitely a fun stream. Not sure stockers will last long in there past May, but it’s definitely chock full early in the season. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video! Love seeing you fish the same holes I fish. Nice job! You gotta do a shepaug/Bantam river trip down behind Mt Tom. Tight lines brother!!

This is a great new series in the making! Perhaps next time we’ll see a can of CT valley “devils hopyard” in the fridge and see you fish the iconic waterfall 😊

Gotta love a good IPA! So tell me, folks: what’s your favorite craft beer with a fishing-related theme, whether it’s in the name or in the can/bottle art? I found quite a few over the years, both with beers made here in CT and in different states whenever I’ve travelled. Here’s another for ya: “Fatal Fly” brewed by Relic in Plainville!

Though it's not specifically fishing related it's my go to, it makes me think of hitting some blue lines😀😀😀 - Stratford's Athletic Brewing Run Wild(NA).

@@ConnecticutAngler It is convenient that we have local craft breweries near many of our favorite streams.
