I started watching your videos, Christo, about 3 years ago. You opened my eyes to the possibilities of a body swing as opposed to an arm swing which I had played with for 30 years. It took a while, but the work paid off. I'm playing golf at a level that I never dreamed I would reach. Thanks for the inspiration and opening my mind! You da man!!

Gosh, Rodney, it's so natural for me to want to hit it with my hands and arms. I go through a cycle of forgetting and remembering not to get my arms and hands involved. Haha

I love that you are committed to learning the Hogan swing. And you even have the newsboy cap! I am actually a tennis player and junkie watcher of old tennis matches - learning the swings, grips, and tactics of the greatest players from the 80's and 90's and I learned so much from really absorbing everything I could. I plated golf in the 80's when I was in my 20's and I sucked Andy 1990 I stopped playing, to concentrate on tennis and have hit a million tennis balls. Now I have the urge to play golf again and I am studying the golf swing just as I studied tennis. Your channel is great, your ambition to emulate Hogan is well founded. If you practice long enough and with enough passion achieving a Hogan facsimile swing - even if 85% - may be achievable. There is enough video out there of old Hogan footage to view his swing from multiple points of view. Keep it up and good luck you are on a worthy pursuit. Can you take it one step further and play with persimmon woods? Would love to see you okay vintage equipment.

It is truly remarkable that Christo is a scratch player and on an “improvement trajectory” in his 50’s. It’s a testament to his keen insights and work ethic when it comes to this game. I know personally of no scratch player who is still improving his game at age 50 by the only measure that matters - the scorecard.

No two players swing the same except that good ball strikers hit from the inside. You have a Christo Garcia swing styled on Ben Hogan with lots of great technical points and some flair. It may not be a problem and many good players do this: Your left foot is forward to the target line making you a little closed.

Cristo, I'm curious about the upright stance you use. Is that something a 5'10" person could use? Because it seems like it would be easier to really activate the lower body with the upright stance. The modern tour swing everyone is pushing involves a very tilted shoulder turn with a bunch of side bend on the downswing. Seems not a body friendly swing!
@flea41
@flea41 2 года назад
I've tried to get the feel that; at the end of my backswing - I don't let the butt of the club, catch the point of my left hip bone on the downswing... helps keep width I created on the backswing. Ps: I'm mid 50's
@MiracleSwingExperience
@MiracleSwingExperience 2 года назад
That’s a good idea 💡
@flea41
@flea41 2 года назад
If you start your hips first, and try to keep the feeling, the butt of your club can only close the after your hips can no longer turn.. (well that's the feeling anyway)

i think the movement back with your right hip, in the takeaway, is now much connected with your right leg- which prevents your weight from falling back onto your right heel in the backswing.
@MiracleSwingExperience
@MiracleSwingExperience 2 года назад
I’m trying to get my weight into my heel. You’re saying it’s not? 🤔
@DASH1ful
@DASH1ful 2 года назад
@@MiracleSwingExperience no, what i mean is that your weight is moving back onto, or towards, your heel and not falling back onto your heel. your leg is much more active in the backswing; which helps to sync up your hip with your leg. when the hip dominates and the leg is not active the weight can tend to fall back onto the hip.

I always thought you more correctly reproduced the Hogan swing than anybody else. I think Hogan would approve. It’s an ‘old school’ swing. Everyone claims to love it, but hardly anyone actually does it…certainly no one at Tour level. The key, in my opinion, is the release, which is the consequence of everything that precedes it. Modern teaching methods will not get anyone closer to this swing. Contemporary pros employ an entirely different set of mechanics.
@jamessuero2731

Since you seem to be ok with discussing your swing with others here is one respectful observation. Your left wrist when you are in your Shangrila position is in a non Hogan position. Hogan’s is already bowed in that position. See page 99 and 102 of his book. I think if your going to emulate Hogan you need to have a weaker grip at address like Hogan. As it is now you are forced to pronate through impact or else you’d hit a hook.
@MiracleSwingExperience
@MiracleSwingExperience 2 года назад
Yes, my grip is not as weak as Hogan’s. I’m always going back and forth from weaker to stronger. I’ll never be an exact match no matter how hard I try.
@mrsmartypants_1
@mrsmartypants_1 2 года назад
@@MiracleSwingExperience I suspect it’s a good thing for you not to emulate Hogan here. You also don’t cup your wrist at the top of the backswing like Hogan. I think it’s pretty well established that these variances (involving good players) in grip are due to natural bone structure differences involving the lower arm, wrist and hand - how your arms/hands naturally hang down in front of you without a club. Your swing is beautiful Christo - you have the most gorgeous Hogan like swing that I’ve seen in many many years.

I would work on lateral side bend - your shoulder plane looks too flat thru impact.
@MiracleSwingExperience
@MiracleSwingExperience 2 года назад
I have very little lateral flexibility. I've hurt my back trying to do that too much. But, I would like to do what you are asking. In an effort to do that I want more flex in my right leg through impact so I can get lower without hurting myself. Thanks!
@plebian44

@@MiracleSwingExperience does that pain also play into how erect your posture is thru and slightly post impact as well?
@billygraham5589
@billygraham5589 2 года назад
@@plebian44 I am 60 and I have great lateral side bend. But my back is injured too -squashed disk. But I get all my power from my arms I would say, that is, my right arm. I do about 75 inverted push ups and 24 pull ups (dividers into 3 sets) and other exercises every other day. AND I use an inversion table each evening before bed - stretching the spine out. Eliminated my sciatica. I swing hard but I use all arms- except for the hip shift off the top, where I use both the hips and arms (and the right shoulder). I am, however, of a belief that so long as you can deliver the shoulders back to the ball at an expected level and position for contact (as we’ll as moving the club on plane) then you get a good shot. I think that though Christo’s spine tilt is minimal it is enough because his shoulders are in an expected position at contact, and so a good shot will be the result. He’s got good clubhead speed. He’s just got a very flat swing. Also, he rotates around his body nice, and that takes practice for timing of the release. I’m a hands and arms guy, and so I don’t power by rotational body motion - I use my arms and hands (and for more power I work out my arms). After the hip shift my body does little until the clubhead starts to enter the “hitting area,” and only very late into the downswing do I do the “extension” thing with my legs and torso. Noting how different Christo’s swing is from mine I don’t offer any swing advice - other than possibly pointing out my concept of delivering the shoulders at the height and position you expect them to be at for good contact. I do talk about my swing but no one seems to swing exactly like me - I keep my back turned to the target until very late in the downswing. Everyone else opens up to face the ball earlier than me. Again, I swing hands arms and shoulders, so the hinge of the arms is what I’m depending on, and I only have that “hinge” so long as I keep my back to the target. Lee Trevino gives advice to slicers to shift their hips off the top keeping their right knee behind the left - which I also see as a way to stop from turning too much too soon. But the point is I’m not the only golfer that sees there can be a negative in too much rotational motion too soon, Anyway, there are many ways to swing a golf club efficiently to play scratch golf. Christo’s flatter swing would appeal to older stiffer folks and anyone that is not expecting to play pro golf for a living but still wants to play well and break par occasionally. That shoulder thing I told you about is a real thing.
