Today we're gonna learn how to make Bangin' 808s in Serum & Ableton's Operator. Specifically, how to get an 808 to hit on both iPhone Speakers & Huge Sound Systems. The trick is a combination of Distortion & clever EQ ing.

Nice tricks! I feel kinda silly not knowing that you could turn the LFOs in serum to envelope like that. Also shift+option+ click on serum to change the direction of the LFO was neat. I usually go into the matrix but keyboard commands are so much faster. Thanks for all the timesaving tips :)

808 Hats are pretty easy, Crashes take some time, but good rides are hard to make.

I think you should turn down the phase randomness down (in other terms retrigger the phase at the same place) to squeeze out the most consistency.

what about using the eq on the side chain so only the click activates it? I find it works pretty well. I also use gatekeeper with side chain input

Question: Should the OSC A sine in your serum patch be the other way around? I was told by Luzcid in a tutorial I had with him, that you want the sine to go up and then down. Up is equivalent to pushing air out of the speaker and down is pulling it back (or something like that)... thoughts?

Steffen Mahler it’s true the premise, I talk about the movement of the speaker cone all the time, tho I’d have to experiment to see if I notice a difference in the phase of the sine wave.

In order for that to happen, you need to turn down the phase randomness completely to make sure it starts exactly where you want it to.

It could be because the attack is too quick, and the random is up, this causes it to start at a random position of the wave at full volume and not at zero

It’s an artifact from my cpu during the recording process, it’s not in the sound itself. I never heard it while recording. Only while editing. If u do the same process you won’t hear any clicks.
