The only time a country is able to stay neutral is if it's neighbors allow it to stay neutral. Plenty of times Switzerland could have had war declared on it even if the declarer lost. It still would have meant Switzerland couldn't have stayed as neutral as it did to 2022.

this just shows how tragically upsetting Ukraines history has been up to this point, it's a country in between two major geopolitical powers that are sworn enemies, each wanting to use Ukraine for their side, being pulled towards either side will create a dreadful response from both sides while not wanting to be on either side will also do the same effect, they just can't be left alone...

They would have been safe if NATO hadn't dragged it's feet and let them in sooner. But we didn't. We will always owe a debt to Ukraine for that. We dilly dallied, and they paid the price. The very literal least we can do is support their defensive war effort now, and help their refugees.

That's an entire culture that shares and speaks the same language as the russians do and are familiar with their culture. Not only that, but it prevents Russia from being one step closer to reuniting the USSR. A united and well defended europe is exaxtly what the US wants so they could finally shift their attention to China

It is kind of biased, as Ukraine was warned by Russia to stay as a buffer state and is seen as the innocent one. If you are warned of danger you are supposed to stay away or the fault is on you for your ignorance.

Sadge that shown "humanity" is not really true. Vocal majority in Ukraine hates russia and russians as a whole now, because military russians killing them now and civil russians do not protest as much you can expect from brotherhood people. rusians on the other hand can't really say sorry or act, coz I feel like majority of them, especially older people, do not know truth, and those who know can't talk freely and there are no one to organize crowd to stop this madness, opposition is no existent. But! that "humanity" exists, educated people, active internet users see real picture and such talks take place. But it's not enough.

@kolya Nazarov Mordor and Russians are bad in this. The average Ukrainian wanted a Western living standard and they annexed Crimea and sent separatists into the Donbass. Then used the region of the Donbass to justify a full blown invasion. (SAME PLAYBOOK as with Georgia). ruskia cries about ruso-phobia, but makes it happen by using a 20% ruski population of any surrounding country as a reason to invade sovereign lands. That's why no country wants ruski immigrants any more. I feel bad for the average Russian, but unfortunately most of them are just zombies that believe kremlins propoganda anyway. Even hear in California I have to hear about how good Russia is, and I was born in Ukraine. So ya the brain washing is strong in Mordor (russia) but Ukraine is a sovereign country and we will finally rid ourselves of the rasists menace once and for all.

@Nikolay Morgan No, they really didn’t. Russia invaded Ukraine so that the latter wouldn’t join NATO. Ukraine has wanted to join NATO for years due to Russian aggression, which resulted from Putin’s aspirations to recreate a greater Russia by annexing former Soviet states. Ultimately this entire crisis leads back to aggression from the Kremlin over the last 20 years or so. If you want to blame someone for this entire debacle, blame Vladimir Putin and his oligarchs. This entire chain of events was sparked by a madman’s lust for regional domination based on a Cold War-era grudge.

Hell, even in 2017 Ukraine's parliament listed NATO membership as a strategic goal...didn't get in. NATO consistently said no and nothing changed. Russia claiming they were going to join NATO is just propaganda. Just like their claim that NATO was pushing up at Russia...go look at the last countries that joined NATO and where they were on maps, all far away from Russia. It's been 2004 since anything near Russia joined.

It's kind of unsettling how similar the Russian government is portrayed to being just Putin: surrounded by yes men who overestimate their absurdly aggressive and egotistical leader because he won't hesitate to shoot them for disagreeing with him, with the rest of the populace suffering the entirety of the consequences in a war they had no say in. Russians and Ukrainians have traditionally held a strange bond in many ways, many even having cultural exchanges where the people like one another but their governments despise one another, so that ending really hurts to see because of how true it is.

Как минимум, половина населения россии была против украинцев, путин хотел полностью русифицировать Украину, частично ему это удалось, ведь я пишу на русском. Мы всегда были псевдобратьями, пытались просто держать мир. Но, как видите, сейчас все меняется. Украина победит и это факт.
