Thankis for your reply@@macdonaldnnadi . He said "it's nice having the dark sqr bishop when white doesn't", but to take the pawn wouldn't give it up so he didn't explain that. Also I just checked both moves with the engine & they're fine. I was only wondering if I missed something.
Most despotic acts: Like many of its neighbors, the controversial host of the 2022 World Cup in soccer is accused of many human rights abuses when it comes to its foreign workers, like setting them up in squalid labor camps separate from society, confiscating their passports upon arrival, and giving them a general lack of rights. That said, Amnesty International reports only sporadic instances of torture and abuse by state security forces. As for Sheikh Hamad's dictatorial bona fides, The New York Times writes: "While Qatar calls for democracy outside its borders, democracy here is provisional at best. While there are municipal elections, and women can vote in them, the country has a Parliament building but no Parliament -- or any other political institution, for that matter -- that can challenge the royal family's grip on power." Outlook for change: There have been no reports of internal dissent in Qatar. It does have a somewhat incongruous foreign policy, however, as it not only supported Saudi Arabia's move to send troops to help crush the Bahrain protests, but Qatar is also still the only Middle Eastern country to send warplanes to assist the Libyan rebels attempt to oust Muammar Qaddafi. These moves are all apparently part of the natural gas-rich Qatar government's efforts to become a major player in world affairs, which seem to garner it support from the West and its neighbors alike, making any unplanned internal democratic transition very unlikely.
@@russellhammond371 yeah, curious. I really liked the game with g3 h5, but I would say I'm more entertained than educated. At least I've absorbed enough for 2200 peak but I would say more entertained than educated, I guess it just builds on pattern recognition for subconscious evaluation/idea generation, but yeah I guess I am curious not doubring.
Congrats Eric! You really did seem sharp in all these games, well played. My favorite was the crazy game against GM Anand, because you showcased how valuable it is to keep fighting and how one can create practical chances and pressure the opponent to make unusual moves (like underpromote) even in drawn endings.
Love the f4 French idea. I never really seriously considered playing that but it definitely drags French players into territory they won't be comfortable in.
Eric, I miss the tile designators on your chess board, as I am a noob and don’t have the rows and columns memorized. Could you bring those back for future videos?
Regarding "h5 in every position": As far as I know, "punks" like Bent Larsen, Gligoric and Bronstein pushed flank pawns back in the 60'es! But maybe not move 1 ... 😎👍
Eric, just to remind you. You promised to play Stafford in an OTB tournament in 3 years from December 2020. It was in your chess personality test video. Hope you can get Stafford in an upcoming tournament you will play
@Eric, at 21:48 the opponent had an interesting resource with Nxf3 and Rh5. I think therefore Qh2, rather than Qh4, was more accurate. Nice game in any case!
how is that not just a free night? first game move like 7... i dont get why he couldnt just go a5.... attack bishop... free knight.... or move 12 instead of h6 you go b6 freeing up a square for your knight to go to? wtf am i missing??
I loved the game against GM Srinath. You had a lot of prep but he didn't make a mistake and Nd5 is amazing, I think thats where he started to gain advantage
Cool games! Two interesting tactics Eric missed (probably time pressure): at 1:14:55 Eric had instead of Nc4, Qxh5+ winning the rook (and if white takes the knight, then black takes white's knight!). Also at 1:07:12, white can actually promote, because black's knight is pinned to a checkmating square. Would have been an easier finish, but Eric still got it in the end
Some intresting things I noticed. The last guy you played you stopped him winning it. The 4th guy you played FM DiGrease came 12th. Eric is rather good at chess.
His opponent is witty_alien, who's pretty famous for making lots of brilliant moves and sacrifices. A lot of times he makes sacrifices without properly calculating and in this case it looks like he blundered.
