As for an English language learner, the KJV was pretty hard to me, and I didn't want it at first. So when I decided to buy my first paper Bible, I asked one man, who was then in the UK, to send me some other versions. So he sent me NKJV and NIV. After that I bought on Amazon some other modern translations to compare the text for better understanding, and to enrich my English learning experience. But strangely enough, after some time I began to look more and more into KJV, and it slowly becomes my main translation. I use others also, but after that I always return to it. The hardest thing ever at first, it's pretty easy now, and now I begin to perceive the beauty of classic English.

Agree with you 100%. I was fortunate, as a child, to learn what you call "classic English", in public school. For example, if it starts with a T, the pronoun is singular. If it starts with a Y, the pronoun is plural. Sure makes it easier to know if words are being spoken to an individual or a group of people. While I didn't have your language challenge to overcome, I was challenged in other ways. I have an NIV and other translations on my bookshelf. The Bible that I routinely use is the KJV. Because of the precision of the language and so much more. Thank you for sharing your story. God Bless.

I love Bibles too! I currently have just over 60 of them. I also have 2 of my mom's Bibles and they are so precious to me. She passed away in 2005. Her Bibles have lots of little notes written right in the Bible or on scrap pieces of paper stuck within the pages. I just love going through it and seeing her notes written in her handwriting :) Love from Australia!

I used to be NIV only. 2 years ago I bought a large print KJV Journal the word Bible. I have used it ever since as my base Bible and use Bible apps to look up the strongs for meaning I don't understand and also various translations. I really like having the solid translation that KJV offers and then taking notes if I need to. And surprising to me, I have grown to LOVE the KJV... because I always use it to read the Bible I'm also used to how words are used in it.

The King James is so poetic, I just ordered a NKJV journal the word Bible from Thomas Nelson and some KJV coloring bibles from Christian Art Publishing. I like the NKJV translation as my main Bible, although it is not as poetic as the KJV it’s a bit easier to understand.

I was away from the church of my youth, for many, yes many, years. When I returned, these old eyes had grown too dim to read the tiny print in my old KJV. Upon recommendation from my new, to me, pastor, I bought a larger print NIV. It became my main Bible, as it was the only one I could see how to read, at the time. After about 6 months or so, I gave up on it. I did not become more comfortable reading it, as time passed. It was the opposite. I bought a KJV study Bible. I have several more, since that day over 10 years ago, when I left LifeWay with that big KJV under my arm. Since then, I have tried several other modern versions. For the most part, they are collecting dust on my bookshelves. With on-line access to many versions at Blue Letter Bible, it is easy to do a quick look up of verses, if I want to compare them to the KJV. Today, my main, daily use Bible is a plain 2 column red-letter King James. You said: "And surprising to me, I have grown to LOVE the KJV." And, I personally know the reasons why.

I have found it hard to resist getting lots of different Bibles as well. It fascinates me that there are very few of the same Bibles that you have as mine. When I first started I was on my own and didn't know much about Bibles at all and was only a TINY bit familiar with the KJV. That was the only one I avoided for over a year, thinking it would be too hard to read. (I no longer feel that way.) Anyhow, one of the books I got early on was the book "New Age Bible Versions" by Gail Riplinger that compares differences between verses (the same verses) in different bibles, and really it was SHOCKING to see some of the differences. The NIV was very bad to me because the translators ADDED to the bible as if the bible SAID what they wrote. The best example I can give is when Peter had that vision or dream with the unclean animals on a sheet and God saying to kill and eat. Peter was saying like, "I never eat unclean things!" and God had to interpret the dream for him. If you read the entire chapter in context you learn that when God was saying not to call things unclean that He calls clean, He was talking about PEOPLE. It was because of that dream/vision that when the Centurion who as not Jewish but loved God invited Peter to dinner, Peter went. Before that, he would not have done so as he had been raised to believe it was unclean to even EAT with non-Jews. But he realized God was telling him that it was not unclean to go eat with them. (And OF COURSE they did not serve pork or anything they knew he wouldn't want to eat!) However, the translators ADDED a sentence that is NOT in ANY of the originals that says (paraphrasing here) "and by this God said no foods are unclean" or some such. It is clear to me that this part of the New Testament is interpreted differently by different people and to ADD to the Bible is a NO-NO. The ESV bothers me because it LEFT OUT certain words of the Bible (and the Bible itself says NOT to add OR take away from it)! Example: In the KJV (Colossians 1:14) says "In whom we have redemption through his blood," whereas the NIV, NASB and others say, "in whom we have redemption" and leave out the blood. ESV leaves out the blood in a LOT of verses. There are many subtle but important differences, for instance in many verses of the ESV, NASB and others it says "a son of God" when referring to Jesus Christ, whereas the KJV says, "THE son of God." Pretty big difference. There are "son's of God" in the Old Testament, especially in Genesis, where what was being referred to was angels -- not the only begotten Son of God, which Jesus is. I'm not saying, by the way, that the KJV is the only good Bible, but it IS a good "old standard" from which to compare many things. And when Gail Riplinger went painstakingly through many Bible editions, the KJV was her standard (as it was for many years the main standard Bible in the West). For her it was before computers and she was bedridden for some years when she did this. What got her started was that before she was bedridden she was working at Kent University and one of her jobs was as a counselor for the students. Someone came in and asked if Jesus and Lucifer were the same person. This is when she found out that his version of the Bible (I think it may have been the NIV) made it look that way if you compared a quote in Isaiah to a quote in Revelation which was worded very differently in the KJV. I got other Bibles not knowing anything about them. Then discovered that the "New World Translation" is a Bible CHANGED to fit the doctrine of Jehovah's Witnesses, who deny the deity of Christ Jesus as God and believe He is one and the same as Archangel Michael (and a number of other things). So I got rid of that bible. I also ended up with a copy of a couple bibles from other "churches" with false doctrines. Got rid of those too, including the Jerusalem Bible which is a Catholic Bible. The Catholic Bible added words to make the mother of Jesus, Mary -- who is indeed blessed among women -- into a deity. I highly recommend studying up on any bible before you spend much money on it or using it as scripture. I would love to have a copy of that Spurgeon study bible you showed. I didn't know about that one! And I had not even heard of more than half of the bibles you mentioned even though I used to have dozens of translations (most of which I either gave away -- or threw out when I thought they are terribly deceptive). The fact is NO translation is inerrant -- just by the fact that it is a translation. Too many times a word or even a concept that does not exist in the language being translated to does not exist in that language. I listened to a missionary who spent many years as a missionary in a tribe in New Guinea where cannibal tribes were also close by. Her main mission other than to do her best to be an example of a follower of Jesus Christ was to learn and translate their language onto paper so that they could read the bible. She had one good translator who knew both their language and English and was stumped for a very long time because there WAS no word for forgiveness in the tribe's vocabulary. After some years and a dangerous situation, she learned that some of the tribespeople who had become Christian were in the party that went to deal with the group on their way to massacre their tribe. They ambushed the approaching enemy -- and in the past it would be a "given" that they would kill all of them. But instead they put down their bows -- they used bows and arrows. This let the enemy approaching know they would not be killed. That word for "putting down the bow" was used in the bible she translated for them to get across the meaning of forgiveness! Bible study gets more fascinating the more you do it -- believe me! I respect and listen to and read and am inspired by a number of good teachers and preachers of Christ Jesus and His Word, but always I find I must put all of my trust in no one but Christ Jesus Himself and His Word. What a wonderful thing that is, to have the Lord of Lords and King of Kings as my PRIMARY anchor! God bless!

@maryphillips8915, I have the same Bible, only mine's in black. 😁 I love it, too, for all the same reasons. I mean, it simply feels good to hold and is a joy to read, due to the fantastic paper quality (including its off-white coloration, which, IMO, is much easier on the eyes). Also like you, I've become a KJV proponent, though I read an HCSB Study Bible alongside my KJV each day. (I use the study Bible to learn about highlighted Hebrew words and events that were happening around the time each book was composed; I also enjoy studying the maps and charts that make the Bible's events come more alive for me.)

I LOVE Bibles too! ❤ This my sound strange, but my potato chip bag tapped your video by mistake while I was watching another video, and I took it as a God wink to watch your video, and I'm soo glad I did! This is my first video of yours, and I subscribed. :) I liked hearing your thoughts on the different versions you have had, and seeing inside them. Thank you! My favorite translation (currently) is the updated Amplified Study Bible. I bought it in hardcover, and it is really a great study tool that I use along with my other translations. I read several side by side to compare the words the translators used. I read KJV when I was a child and back then was told it was the only one to be trusted. Yet after I was grown I found there is not one single translation that conveys ALL of the meaning through its covers, which is why the need for Concordance, resource books and helps, so we can better UNDERSTAND what God said to us. Understanding is the key to knowing God and His ways, and what he wants for us, and how to abide in Him. Over the years I have read KJV, New KJ, NIV and NLT beginning to end. I also recently bought CSB, ESV and NASB, which is probably my favorite outside the AMP version. A few months ago I was gifted the Tony Evans Bible Commentary which got my feet wet in commentaries. Since then I bought a MacArther daily devotional (which I love-love) and then decided I needed to get his NASB Study Bible and his commentary. His vast wisdom and way of writing really resonates with me. I also got Matthew Henry's Commentary on Kindle which he had written long ago. Wow, it goes so in depth and has been a huge help for my studies. The Kindle Bible resources along with Biblehub's online lexicon feature helps when I can't tote around an arm full of heavy books. I have more devotionals and resources in print as well as on Kindle, but I'll stop there for now. I hope you have a great day, and thanks again for sharing!

I love buying bibles too. It's really fun reading the different translations and seeing which wording I like the best. So far I have a ESV student Reformation study bible, a NKJV New Geneva Study Bible, a NIV study bible, and a NLT Life Application study bible. The NKJV Geneva study bible is hardcover, and it's great for the notes and the color of the print, it's nice and dark. In fact, the Geneva bible is from 1994 and it has the nicest print and headings out of all the bibles I own. They really did a good job at keeping the feel of a standard king james, but the translation is so much easier to read. I was lucky and I got it for a good deal on ebay. My favorite is the life application study bible for the notes. Every note in it is basically something you can apply to your life and they really explain everything well. It's nice because the notes aren't crowded, which is one thing I didn't like about the NIV study bible. Too crowded and too many extra notes referencing other notes that don't really need to be there. I find it makes it hard to read. For anyone wondering, if you haven't tried a life application bible you are missing out. They are great! Take care!

My favorite is the ESV Study Bible for normal reading/study. However, I recently purchased a copy of The New Spurgeon's Devotional Bible: Complete in One Volume which also is written in the ESV translation. This Bible is designed to be read daily over 2 years. Instead of being set up like a normal Bible, it goes through the main stories of the Bible and combines other passages from different parts of Scripture together on the same topic. For example, when reading about Abraham in Genesis, you might read the passage from Gen. then read a Psalm that touches on faith and then read a passage from Hebrews that also references Abraham. In between these passages (in parentheses and italics) you have some of the quotes from Spurgeon's writings that expound on the passages. Spurgeon's goal for these thoughts was to be used when reading Scripture as a family/to children to explain to them what the passage means and, always, how that passage points us to Christ or teaches us something about Christ. It's like having him with you to explain the Bible as you read. I absolutely LOVE this Bible! So basically, I'm trying to get through this devotional Bible in 1 year by reading 2 or more daily devotions at a time and then I'm still using my ESV Study Bible when doing other Bible reading/study because the Spurgeon Bible doesn't contain every single verse, it's more of an overview of Scripture (at least as far as I can tell so far). I love them both for different reasons. I also recently acquired the NRSV Cultural Background Study Bible, which is an AMAZING resource for doing more research into the ancient world and customs etc. that existed during the times the Bible was written. It really does a great job of explaining the other religious beliefs and practices of the cultures the Israelites came into contact with. It has a lot of great charts and detailed photos along with additional commentary from the "cultural backgrounds" in the world at that time and I have just started digging into this one, but it's been great so far. Next year in our homeschool, we'll be focusing on the Ancient World and I'm really looking forward to using this Bible even more during those studies. I really enjoyed your video! Thank you so much for showing us a peak into your Bible collections!

Very interesting video! that Spurgeon study Bible has definitely peaked my interest! 😊. Up until this last November I have always used NIV...actually my last Bible I was gifted it in 2006 but I had all my notes and highlights in there I didn't want to let it go. It had been through two Bible cases but it was so familiar to me.....then my husband bought me a chronological NKJV Bibke for our Anniversary. I still haven't finished that one, but I was enjoying reading the Bible chronologically. Now in November I received a NASB John MacArthur study Bible and I love it. I think from now on I will use a study Bible there is just so much benefit in it, and you are right JM has put SO much commentary in there. My son has an ESV and he likes that translation, but he is hoping to find a NKJV study Bible from a pastor he agrees with ( he just turned 11 lol) we are still on the hunt...

Another Bible collector here and new subscriber. I, too, enjoy watching videos of other people's Bible collections. Thank you for sharing yours. My collection is out of control, as my friends would probably say. But I value having different translations to consult simply for the reason that one can dig out more meaning to a verse by reading it in different translations. Counting just the ones within reach as I sit here - at least 14. Not counting the many, many I have on my Kindle or the ones now in storage for one reason or another. I think I have access to just about every translation out there but the ones I'm currently gravitating toward most right now is the NKJV and CSB. I have study Bibles in both translations. I also use a Thompson Chain KJV quite often - the original Kirkbride version. I like how you can take a word or subject and read throughout the Bible on that word or subject by following the reference code given. I also recommend the Amplified version - not so much for readability but because right there within the verse, it gives additional word or phrasing to mean the same thing. But with all of the translations out there, after 50 some years in my walk with God, it's nice to sometimes fall back on the KJV I grew up with. Now that I'm older, it's easier to read and understand than it was when I was younger.

ESV study Bible, Nelson Complete Study System (now NKJV study bible), Life in the Spirit (now Fire bible), Wesley Study Bible.. sooo many!

For 2022 I decided to read the Bible in Chronological order cover to cover ( for the first time) I am using the NKJV One Year Bible for that mission. 😆 Ps. I have over 60 bibles as of today 😬🥴

Hi Stacy. Enjoyed your video. I have many Bibles and translations. But my favorite Bible is a KJV Full Life Study Bible (I think it has now been renamed the Life in the Spirit Bible). Growing up in the 1960s and 70s, the KJV is what many people had, and I am comfortable using it. I purchased this Bible in 1992, if I recall correctly. It has been with me through many trials and difficult times. It is filled with 30+ years of highlights and notes. It's not just a Bible, but a faithful old friend.

I love the John MacArthur edition- it's such an in-depth one to use for study. I bought my 22 yr old son a special leather bound version of that one last year for his birthday and he loves it, too. I bought my boys the student's apologetics Bible when they were teens and it's a great one, too. I have always read through the Bible in NKJV and just used the other translations for Bible study, etc. But this year I'm reading through the ESV(The Story of Redemption Bible) and I really am enjoying it. I hope to read through another translation the 2nd half of the year.- we shall see how that goes. 😊

I love comparing different versions, I love the different covers they come in, the feel of the Bible paper, and even the smell of them (especially the leather). I can't help myself, if I see one I like I just have to buy it.😁 I had a huge collection once... but I've managed to dwindle that down a bit now.....but I think I still have a few too many.😊 I love the KJV and the NKJV for their majestic language and because they are word for word and good for study, but for general reading, such as reading the Bible from cover to cover I prefer to use the NLT or even the Good News Bible. They just seem to flow better. The CEV is an easy read too. Whatever the translation, they are ALL God's Word and like they say, 'the best Bible for you is the one you will read'! ❤️❤️❤️

I think I lost all the Bibles I had from childhood through my mid/late 20s in a messy move. I always read one Bible at a time until I was gifted a new one or came across a study Bible that looked more interesting than the one I was reading. I've recently started slowly building a new collection. I have a NIV Life Application Study Bible that I used for years until it was damaged. I replaced it with the HCSB Apologetics Study Bible; I love the twisted Scriptures notes in it. Shortly after I got it, I backslid and never read much of it. I jumped back into reading the Bible in July or August of this year. I wanted different study notes to go along with that one, so I got the Amplified Study Bible and love it. It's my everyday Bible. I have a list of study Bibles and commentaries I want and keep adding to it.

Great video! You and I are on the same stage and path! My first complete read through was from a NKJV and then an NIV, both purchased from Walmart. After that I was hooked and now my main Bible is the Thomas Nelson NASB giant print in genuine leather. Love this Bible in conjunction with the John Macarthur NASB study Bible. I also use the John Macarthur NASB daily Bible for my Bible in a year read. I just purchased the Thomas Nelson NKJV SCR in goatskin, I love this one just for casual reading. And finally one of my favorites is actually the smallest and cheapest I own, an NKJV compact end of verse reference Bible I purchased for $10 on Amazon. Its an amazing little Bible and even though it is small the print is so easy to read, unlike my Pitt Minion that now lives in its box because the print is just too small. I also still have my first Bibles from when I was a kid. They were the KJV. Oh and I almost forgot I have a KJVER Sword reference Bible that I want to do a complete read through next year. Good video, excellent coverage of the Bible choices available today. I'm a bit disappointed that publishers are doing so many revisions/updates, resulting in different wording in certain passages, depending on when it was published. It leads to confusion. I can see generational updates, even perhaps a bit more often, but when it's just a few years between updates, something is wrong. I'll be glad when publishers finally sort this out.
