I currently own 4 road bikes. My first one is an 80s custom steel road bike with Campagnolo Record, which I got it as a gift. My commuter is a 1999 Stevens San Remo with 9-speed Tiagra 4400. My training bike is a 2001 Trek 5500 OCLV 120 USPS Lance Armstrong replica with Dura Ace 7700, weighs incredible 7.4 kg. And my new bad weather bike is a Merida Scultura 100 with Claris R2000. In the future I will buy a Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7.0 as a fair weather bike.
Nice! I ride a specialized rockhopper 2008 with 50mm schwalbe tyres and tubus rack for commute and bike messenger jobs. I also have a specialized allez 2015 but it is an elite model with 700x28 grandprix 4season tyres. Next bike will be a gravel with 45mm tyres, front and back rack mounts possibilities.
Great to know U like specialized. I have been on quite a few bike over the pass 20yrs plus and I must say somehow I think specialized bikes gives you the best feeling
My last diamond frame was an Iron Horse XT-1800 hybrid, running Kenda Kwest 622-32 tires. it was a great bike, but my hands cant take the pressure any more. Currently my main bike is a BikeE semi-recumbent compact long wheel base. !6" front tire, 20 " rear, with a rear shock. It's about my most useful bike. Very easy and comfortable to ride. I've been riding a Sun EZ-Tad recumbent trike. A little too upright and kind of twitchy on downhill. With 20" wheels and no suspension, it doesn't like American roads. I just got an ATP Vision short wheel base with a 26/20 wheel set. It's taking a while to sort it out and get it back in shape. The bottom bracket seized. When I opened it dust and loose bearings fell out. No sign of any grease. If I can get a fairly cheap mountain bike fork and front wheel I'll upgrade it to dual 26" high-racer. My guess for Suika was "Water Flower". Or "Ticket to Ride", if you remember your Tokyo pass cards.
Whoa! You used to race at the collegiate level! Whoa! You casually podium in Cat 1 crits! Whoa! You've trained with pro Keirin racers! Whoa! You almost became a pro Keirin racer yourself! I KNEW I was right to subscribe to this channel! Since finding the channel in July and looking at your physical condition, I had the suspicion you were an absolute beast on a bike. I was NOT WRONG! Fascinating video man, it hit close to home as I lived and worked in Japan way back in 2005-2008, and as a cyclist I moved there with no bikes at all - fortunately within a short time my Dad ended up shipping my Specialized Allez road bike to Japan, where it still resides today. My wife and I live in NY but spend summers in Japan and I ride it when I'm there every year. Isn't it exciting that road biking is exploding in popularity in Japan in recent years! Back when I lived in the west Tokyo area (Hachioji) I lamented that there was incredible riding to be done but I never saw road cyclists. Now every summer I ride in my wife's hometown (Tochigi) there are more road cyclists out on the roads. Anyway thanks for a great video, love the channel. Ride safe, Brian
Thanks! Lots of great cycling experiences over the years.. Just a regular rider now though 🚴 Summer's a hot time to visit, but that's cool that you can live in both places each year. The increase in popularity of cycling is great to see (and also great for this channel haha). Same thing for me, barely saw anyone 7 years ago, and way different now.. Tochigi must be a blast to ride, guess it's a bit cooler there too..
Stumbled upon your video while considering to get another bike for gravel rides (only have 1 now - a solid, vintage Japanese roadbike). I am new to this world and wondering whether it would be too much to have more than one bike. You've got more than 7 so thanks for the encouragement. I guess the only thing I need to do now is talk to the wife =))
I bet Kuro-kun is the fastest since he's one less chainring bolt lighter - marginal puff gain ftw LoL. As for Thuong new wannabe bike, perhaps I could kindly suggest 26" mtb frame flat bar with mosso rigid fork but using 700c wheels. I use same setup but with 27.5 wheels, not the best geometry but low maintenance and free of hassle great both for gravel and on road. Nice collection and great presentation Cruise :)
oh, dang! glad you spotted that because I sure wouldn't have.... 😂 Need to fix that.. rigid street mtbs are a lot of fun.. I used to have one as my main commuter in the US.. Thanks for the recommendation! Going to try and restrain ourselves a little bit until I figure out my job situation for next year..
After watching a whole bunch of cycling videos from Japan and Korea, I'm astonished seeing all the expensive high end bikes ridden there. Brands like Pinerolo, BMC, S-works, Look........and these aren't pros racers, just regular people. How do you afford $10 000 bikes? Eat lots of ramen? Before I bought my first quality road bike, Orbea Avante, I was considering buying a custom made racing recumbent from China. Why would I want such a contraption? Mainly for the comfort and long distance riding. Anyways the deal fell through. Bought the Orbea instead, then GT Verb MTB, my garage still wants a recumbent.
People here really go all out with their bikes.. even people with lower salaries.. I really don't understand how some people can afford it, but some older generation people are pretty loaded..
As far as i know there isn't any good studies comparing road pedals vs touring/mtb pedals. Performance differences have been down to suggestive feel. i think as long as your have a good stiff platform (shoe sole) power output shouldnt be effected. SPD is good, don't need to change shoes for walking around.
I move to Japan soon and I raced for Lindsey Wilson College from 2012 to 2017. I plan to check out the road there. I move on August 27th to Gifu. If possible I would like to connect for sure. My wife is a Japanese national there.
hi mate just got back from 1 week trip to the north of Vietnam. The roads in Ninh Binh between epic looking mountains would be a nice place to ride. But unfortunately, we were on a motorbike. Back to my routine and watching your videos :)
I can't ride :). I sit behind my wife on a motorbike. Next time I travel anywhere in Vietnam, especially north, I'd take my bicycle with me in a train.
I had pretty decent MTB and it got stolen.....twice! So furious and sad at the same time because I spent them with my savings since I got my first job. Now i'm married, got kid, got lots of expenses and it makes me thinking "enough is enough, I'm gonna buy a cheap bike". And voila...now I'm riding my cheap ass bike happily with my 7yo boy strapped on my chest :)
Sorry to hear that.. fortunately I haven't had a bike stolen from me yet.. definitely don't need an expensive bike to be happy, most of my rides are done on my cheap single speed 😀
You have a lot of bikes O.O Being in Japan, I thought maybe you would have one minivelo around but I guess I was wrong...I do own 1 bike made in Japan, a Gios steel minivelo, that somehow arrived to Lima, Peru; it's quite unique here and gets some attention from bike enthusiasts, also livinge city the small wheels makes it great.
Mini bikes are popular here, but I've still never ridden one.. They look good for city riding, but I prefer my big wheels and my fixed gear for the city since I most always ride on the main roads..
Great videos, you guys got an awesome range of bikes :) also the sound in this video is quite echoed, i'm not sure if it's the right word to use. French is my first language. I'm from Montréal, Québec :)
Thanks! Yeah, that word is correct.. My default camera microphone does not work very well inside my apartment unfortunately. I have some other stationary mics, but they were too far away to use in this video. Will try a lavalier next time..
@@TwoWheelCruise thanks for the reply, you can get great Lavalier for not too expensive on Amazon, anyway keep on good works your videos are always interesting :)
Great vid crouse i dont know how but you read my mind i was wondering what type of bikes you are using yesterday when i was watching one of your vids now i know 🙂 thanks for sharing the info
Hi there!! Congratulations for your channel and bikes!! I loved the Undefeated! I bought a State bicycle when I was living in US in 2014. I use it to commute in São Paulo -Brazil... 36 km each day!!!
Good morning how I wish you were near to my place so maybe I can visit and asked some advice regarding some bike issues anyway very nice video Goodluck
Any interest in a gravel bike? Since you since you mentioned there's not good mtbing near you, maybe a gravel would fill better for you; from another channel I watch from Japan it seems there's a decent bit of gravel/dirt road/trails. Maybe a conversion on the planet x? I don't know the clearances on the fork/rear, but if it can fit wider tires a wheel swap wouldn't be that expensive. Plus, you could get a video out of the setup, and then riding gravel. Also, team spd.
No need, since I can just use my mtb or swap cx tires. There are not many gravel roads/ trails by me within riding distance, but I hear there's a bit more within driving distance..
+Two Wheel Cruise great haircut man. Me being an ass bout the bike name did add to the thing apparently XD what do You think about Orbea bikes? still haven't decided..but it seems this cyclecross one u've mentioned 1:31 seems nice too. But not for woods & road as we spoke
+Two Wheel Cruise So I called my local Scott dealer & he said that 735 isn't made now. They renamed it into 935. While I said I want something for road (quick like long distance Roadsters) but also able to run in woods, uphill like u bought 735 for this very purpose (we so alike when it comes to type of riding but still u somehow jumped for road bikes despite of the passion for mountain ones O.O) they denied the option of SCALE 935 overall (+due to 29 wheels- he said those make Your bike slower so I asked why they ditched 27,5 ones because u mentioned, it got u faster aside with carbon frame on road; got no answer) yet recommended "aspect" & "sub cross". Is it good reco? All those are alu+look cheap to me. PS1. we bought Female Giant Rove Disc 1 -the beast is so fast and can handle woods! shame they don't have male counterpart or did I saw it in 2019 lineup hm ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cfuWrP7OUFQ.htmlm43s PS2. THANKS FOR LATE REPLAY!
29er and 27.5 advantages change based on terrain and riding style. I used to ride 29er in the US. The cycling industry is always trying to create new "this is the best" marketing campaigns, but really most everything works..
That’s really good. Your love for cycling isn’t supposed to be measured in the number of bicycles you own. Most people who own a lot of bikes do so because each one gives them a different experience, but one is enough.
Thanks for sharing your bikes. Regarding the used communities in Japan--I'm a member of a few general ones in Kansai, but do you know any bicycle-specific used groups?
I don't know any used specific ones, but there's the general cycling bikes/parts Japan one on Facebook. People will also post stuff for sale in the local group if it's not banned by the admin. Don't get too many posts like that here though..
No issues with assembly for me ru-vid.comUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
i stick to spds also... love going fast but its just so dam annoying wearing full on cycling shoes... ive got multi spd shoes and boots and sandals that i can all walk around in lol love em
Thanks for the info. I meant to say “what gearing are you using on Nana-chan” so I apologise for not being clear. Anyway have a great trip and I look forward to watching and viewing your vids and Instagram content on your trip around Taiwan. So have a safe journey.
I've been keeping an eye on the Planet X aluminum cross frames lately because of the price point and the fact they still use threaded bottom brackets. Have you experienced any downsides to your frameset? Any sizing weirdness etc?
They didn't have really any good aluminum options at first, but it looks like there's a few now. Everything about this bike has been pretty solid so far (minus the wheels). CX sizes are always a bit different than road bikes, but mine fits me good.
How do you manage to put gatorskins on equal on a rim? I've tried with my wifes bike and my old 32mm gators but they wobble and it is possible to see inequality in position :( Not mentioning how hard it is to put them on in general.
Hi. How are. You Hi. Can I change the Shimano shifters from the trouny thumb a50 to sti trouny shifter can I only change the shifter at the the Handel bar or I need to change all the system thanks
What speedometer/computer do you recommend? I have some older Cateyes. They're all wired. One has a altimeter, thermometer and just about everything except a defibrillator. The older ones are starting to die. I got a new Cateye last year for a friend and they've gone downhill. I won't buy them anymore. I did a search for best speedometers and the #2 speedometer on one site was the Cateye POS so I can't trust them.
Thanks for watching :) Our main shop is down now, but you can order here www.redbubble.com/people/twowheelcruise/shop?artistUserName=twowheelcruise&iaCode=u-clothing They should ship to Australia
