I agree. The stylist seems confused. Lol. They all do sometimes. It sad to me because when it comes to weave they know how to style. But when it comes to natural hair it's do foreign.
love her short cut, but I don't like that the stylist, did not wet her hair, grabbed it and started chopping and keep discouraging her about her chop. She would have did better doing it herself at home.

That's why I stay out of black salons because they always try to get someone to do something other than what you came in for. Plus I never saw anyone chop hair off that way, that stylish seem like she didn't really want to do it. I didn't do a BC I grew my hair out and every 6months I went to my Colombian lady and had a trim until perm was all out, it took abt 4 years but its was better for me than just chopping off my prem.
True and then put all that flaky setting lotion and sprays that can start a fire in your hair. sick of them totally. none of them can braid but sure want to put 8 tracks of weave
That stylist was not empathetic. She jus wanted her money then probably charged her $30. That girl should have cut her ends first before she went there. Then take it from there. The ending was nice though. I hope her hair was able to grow after that dramatic haircut!
I love, love, love your hair. Your courage is amazing. I even shed a tear when you cried because I felt the same way when I did my BIG CHOP. However, I cut my own hair. Now, I love every minute of my hair. Learning is amazing experience. :-)
It's cute! I really wish I would have big chopped, but I didn't have the courage. I transitioned for 2 years, until my hair was "a good length," and now seeing my sister after she big chopped, gives me so much life! Long term transitioning is a journey too, but the big chop looks so liberating. I might big chop after I've reached my waist length goal or I might get locs, something different!
Despite the stylist's seemingly uncaring attitude, I think you made the right decision to allow her to use the clippers. You look cute with short hair!

Aww, I loved this video! I was so glad you told her to get the clippers out, that made it more even and I like the way it turned out! I felt bad that you were disappointed but you was shol nuff looking too ka-ute once you got home and hooked it up. Those pics at the end were adorable!
GOOD GIRL, I'm proud of you, that took balls to cut your hair that short but it looks soooo much better than the relaxer, your natural hair texture is beautiful , please keep it this way

Your reaction at the salon was like mine. I was disappointed with my BC results but that night I co-washed it and my curls popped and I fell in love with it

This is my 2nd time natural. The first time, I did the BC like you. When I got home, I cried and cried and prayed to God to give me my hair back. I am serious. I never really embraced my hair texture back then which is why I ended up relaxing again. But this time natural, I LOVE IT! I didn't BC though, I transitioned for a year and a half before I cut the relaxer. I couldn't go through that trauma again. LOL I just wished that I had taken better care of my hair while I was transitioning.
@Annastacia G. You're right, I was sad my hair didn't curl up. When I initially big chopped, my goal wasn't what it is now. It has been nearly 3 years since that day, my mindset was a bit different. I couldn't care less about curls now and I encourage others to embrace their hair no matter what texture they have. I love my hair because it's apart of me. I didn't wish for 3c or 4a, my hair is neither. I rarely if ever wear my hair in its coily state, i prefer the afro which isn't curly at all. Thanks for commenting.

Dont let anybody tell u ur not brave! This takes a big leap i did my big chop on dec 27 2012. A day to remember but we look back ok that day like "wow i actually did it" :) beautiful
I mean what was the stylist trying to do? If you were getting your permed ends chopped of, shouldn't the "stylist" wet you hair to see where your natural curl pattern being? it seem that she was blindly cutting away at your hair.
I was so happy when you told her to get the clippers. I feel your pain. It looks so good. u will love the results in a fe weeks. just go get in the mirror and play with it and try put everything. trial and error! its so worth it girly. good luck. i did it back in july and have been braided up since january but i have so much growth and i started lower than u did.
you look beautiful with short hair. its so funny how the things we are most scared of and worried about, don't even be that serious in the end. lol. I too had to cut all of my hair off when I was younger and girl I slapped so much dam gel and water on it tryna make it 'curly' and less 'afro like' lmao it was ridiculous but I later on got used to it and it turned out looking decent. love the video. brought back memories =)
Oh gosh that supposed stylist just chop ur hair like crazy..no wash and condition? She didnt even know where the relaxed ended.. you wouldve been better off doing it yourself.. she acted as if u just messed yourself up..smh
I hate that. It's so hard to find a stylist you can trust. I cut my own hair for 18 months while I looked for the right person. I hope you get good help to restore it to its former glory!
Just keep that in mind. You are bettering yourself. Don't worry about what they say. Know why you're going through this transition and stick with it. God made you that way.

I'm not exactly sure of how to describe it, but maybe more shaping around the hairline, or something to make it look less "chopped". I went to barbers to maintain my short cut, and found that they are generally better at these cuts than salon stylists.
I wasn't down with maintaining the short look so shaping it wasn't for me. I just wanted it to grow out lol I wanted all of it to just grow the same all around.
Good for you doing the big chop its a huge decision no matter how much you need it. Was the stylist going to let u walk out like that? I couldn't believe you had to ask for clippers' she could of tapered it a little to give it a softer look. Next time a Barber may be better but anyway hope your well on your way to healthy growth.
It looks very nice. Exactly what you is what that stylist should have done. She probably suggested taking off an inch because she didn't know what to do with it after it was all off. Nice job to YOU!
I got the link from curlynikki and I just love it! Now my only prob is the lady that cut your hair. She seemed like she had the stink face going like she didn't think doing a BC was a good idea. But you did a great job with it and you look fabulous!!!
this is how I felt. The big chop is liberating. I know you feel better now. The people in the salon don't understand because they want to charge you for that weave lol

The stylist seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. What happened to the line of demarcation? She just grabbed scissors and stated cutting. Also, the customer should have gone to a male barbershop for a shape up with the clippers. They would have done a better job shaping up her hair.
You are hilarious!! But I definitely had to cut mine too after 11 months cuz I was over the two textures but I stayed with a wig on while I was transitioning but it'll grow on u.
That stylist was so ding dang rude!!! I did my BC today and went to a barber who did a beautiful job!! Came home conditioned and put some gel in it and I'm in love!!!
Yeah, I hadnt gone to her in about 8 months, she usually does my hair so she didnt really know that i was even transistioning. she knew how i felt about my hair. Thanks though. Go for it. you wont regret it.
