My BIG CHOP (TRANSITION CHOP) video is here!

My transition to natural hair is finally over! This is a major cause when using detangling tools instead of just using my FINGERS to detangle my hair! Lesson learned, relaxed ends are very fragile! I hope you enjoy this!
Transition period: 1 year 8 months
Last Relaxer: November 2013
My Big Chop: July 2015
Hair Type: TINY (like the size of coffee straws) , very coily, similar to "naturally Temi" who has a 4c texture, but I could be a 4a 4b...I'm have no clue.
Conditioner used: Trader joes tea tree

Your hair texture is similar to mine. I'm currently transitioning (9 months) and trying to wait until I reach the 1.5 year mark before big chopping, but every day I'm tempted to chop it all off!! I think your hair is absolutely gorgeous and lush. Beautiful skin and smile too! I'm excited to follow your hair journey - new subscriber!

I ended up big chopping at 1 year (Sept 2016), and I haven't looked back! Everyone is still in shock that I cut all of my hair because even though it was permed it was very thick, healthy, and past my waist, so they didn't understand why I would cut it. However, the perm just wasn't taking to my hair anymore so going natural became the natural option for me. My only regret about it all now is that I didn't go natural sooner because my hair is MUCH more manageable without the perm! Due to the thickness and density of my hair I always hesitated with going natural. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with it, loving my cropped short hair and enjoying the journey of regrowing it. Thanks for posting I'm in dire need of motivation. I'm only 2 months of transitioning post perm and I need all the inspiration I can get! I have about 2 inches of new growth. I'm 31 and I've never gone natural. All my life my hair has had chemicals in it but I'm committed to the process no matter how nappy my hair gets lol. I'm embracing it finally. It's not easy but watching you transition so beautifully is all I needed to see.

I really like year hair, it's like the perfect curl pattern to wear in a Afro, I have been transitioning for 8 months but my hair is growing really slow,if I had a hair texture similar to yours I would be so happy, I can tell what mine is but it's really coily

That's Awesome! Your hair looks really great!! I did my big chop on 7/17. My hair seems to curl a lot like yours and I think my hair a 4a/4b as well (I think!). I have not figured out how to do wash n go, so its been pinned up all week. Can't wait to see more of your journey!

Amy C Thank you! And I couldn't figure it out either. I would steady prep my hair at night, but when I would take it out in the morning, it just didn't look right to me, and I would put it up in a puff. But after a while, it started looking better and better to me and I finally wore it out without wearing it up and actually received more compliments. So just keep trying and working with your hair cause eventually you will love it!

Girl, we have the same hair! Thats so exciting to me since Ive been on the search for a hair twin for weeks :D Try some bentonite/rhassoul/kaolin etc clay, trust me! Your coils will be poppin, ULTRA defined, and soft. Clay is my fave :)
