tbh if I was in her place, I'd be scared shitless. Basically a stranger acts like a creep, tried show his junk, then walked through the house 'drunk' screaming, and we have to pretend we're engaged?? I worked crew on this gem of a show I thought I'd paint some color here on a few things. I think it's really important to know this was created by the same team that did the Joe Schmo Show (which if you haven't seen you should add it to your list, fantastic early reality TV). Their whole concept is real people in crazy situations with actors. Randy is 100% real. She was in the dark the whole time until the end of the show. It was actually pretty awesome to watch in real time. I know you're just joking about the house thing but.... the house that every reality show is shot in is in Silverlake. This was a mansion we rented in Thousand Oaks that was owned by Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue. The house you're referring to had another production going on at that time. Steve is an awesome, hilarious, super nice, and talented comedian. You've probably seen him in lots of commercials and other bit TV parts since this. He's 100% shooting for reactions here. The other big twist on this show is in this episode Randy thinks she's only playing for $500k. That's because she thinks that Steve is also playing for $500k. What she doesn't know if that she gets through with the whole things she actually wins all of the money. Hope you watch the rest of it. It gets wild!

Her saying he "flopped on out" was absolutely insane. Literally even the way you enter a room changes in others perspective just cause you're overweight. Like damn.

Steve wasn't bad at all until he was "drinking" and wanted to be in the hot tub. I can see that actually being a bit of a scary situation for Randy as well, since 1) she doesn't know Steve whatsoever and 2) she doesn't know he's just acting. She's totally right to be frightened in that spot.

Steve is honestly an incredible actor. He was so perfectly doing the absolute least appropriate thing he could do in any situation at all times. Like his character flip-flopped between being shy and awkward to obnoxious and bombastic depending on what would make the moment the most uncomfortable.

I think the best way to do this would be to play along and go overboard with him. It would be easier to convince other people that you've changed or that a person brings out a different side of you than trying to contain the actor-fiance from embarrassing you. Get drunk every day for a week and go wild.

Imagine winning the cash and then it turns out the marriage is real and then having to spend it all on the divorce

The stark difference between the bad acting and the beginning and her demeanor by the end makes me think this was real. Plus reality shows from back then were known to just mentally torture people.

I feel like this concept would work even BETTER now. There is so many different streaming services and dating shows that it would be pretty believable to have one that friends/family never heard of. And it would weirdly be more honest than a lot of dating shows, as it's a lie from the get-go.

2000 shows were just like “wow even though you’re an average looking person we’re gonna make you feel super disgusting, ugly, and unloveable because that’s what average means to us, and we will proceed to take zero responsibility for the consequences of self perception on future generations.”

She was my first grade teacher!! Too many parents complained about her being on this show so she sadly got fired but I think about her all the time and I hope she’s doing well

I don’t think it’s fake. The look of disappointment on her face when he came out and the way she changed from being like “idk what’s going on I’m so excited” to “this guy comes waddling out” with a straight face was too real.

It’s hilarious to me bc I think “Steve” Is genuinely attractive. I love beautiful eyes that light you with a smile.

Cody dropping the “I’ve cut out the fat” at the beginning and not laughing and turning it into a dad joke is a missed opportunity

Imagine this concept again but both people think they are trying to be the annoying partner. Just two people being as annoying as possible trying to cringe the other out. Tell them if the other person calls them out then they will not get the money. And to top it off have them have to be in front of their friends and family the entire time.

I don't think this is fake. This is EXACTLY the behavior of a woman who feels trapped into doing something. It's so accurate that it's not even a reflection on him, his behavior could be perfection and the fact that the whole thing was sprung on her would cause her to act this way. Just look how when react on married at first sight, and these girls know what they are getting into! So either it's real, or she's the best actress EVER.

TV shows like this made everyone feel so insecure no wonder we have body image issues as adults now . Specially when Tyra Banks kept saying this girl was plus just because she had a bigger chest and didn’t look completely starved.

I was a guest on a reality show once upon a time. They absolutely do set you up in awkward situations like this... and it's to get a genuine and often rude reaction out of people.

I remember watching the Dutch version of this as a kid in 2005. It was also called by dirty, fat, annoying fiancé and about the whole country was watching it at that time. The cash price was only €50K too.

I kinda like that they didn't just go for an overtly horrible person (though perhaps it'll get worse later?) but rather just cringe and annoying for the most part, aside from the creepiness. That makes it more believable, imo.
