The fact that these women are supposed to come back “transformed” to their fiancés who have done nothing to improve or do anything for their own physical attractiveness is just so classic

so many of these early reality shows preyed on peoples insecurities and it's actually really sad :(

It's so terrible because in 2016, one of the women from the show was murdered (Lisa Marie Naegle) by a man who had a relationship with her. It was really brutal and just so sad, especially seeing her in the show :(

The fiances on this show were rarely good eggs. A handful of them were like “i dont think you need this” but the women themselves had been shamed by other women or past men in their lives. But a lot of the men were like “yeah i cant wait for my girl to be hot, she really needs work right now” while being at the most 4s themselves. Also a lot of the women were in it for the “dream” wedding more than the surgeries

The winner didn’t even reveal herself to the groom! She just turned to the audience, whiles he’s trying to peak over, then while everyone is clapping, he’s just like, oh, I guess we’re clapping, cool. 😂

All these women "NEED" is like a spa day and like a trip to a salon for fun. Like hair and nails done. Have them relaxed, dolled up, and rejuvenated for the big day.

Of course the first girl they showed HAD to have braces and glasses. I refused to wear glasses throughout middle school because I thought they were “ugly” & now my eyes are completely fucked lol

Shows like this actually really messed with my soft, moldable, undeveloped brain. It screwed me up and gave me so many insecurities at a young age, thinking that this stuff was necessary rather than learning to be confident in my own skin. Like ANTM? So bad for young women. It’s great that it’s changed since then even a little because sometimes I still see people or look at myself and think I need to get cosmetic surgery to be attractive.

I remember watching this show with my mom and sisters. There was one contestant, Lisa, who was treated horribly by pretty much everyone in the house. So we looked up how she was doing after the show and it led us to a criminal investigation case. Apparently not long after the show, she was murdered. It's really fucked up.

I feel like the husbands had to fall into two groups: emotionally manipulative or extremely supportive. they've got to be either the ones making the wives feel uncomfortable in their own bodies, or love them for who they are (even if they want to change themselves)

as a woman who's seen a lot of mgtow/misogyny/incel content pop up in my suggestions, it's so delightful to come across cody ko, who doesn't have any of that hatred and disdain for women. he sees women as people, and feels empathy and compassion for these women 😄 (which is such a low bar, but that's the unfortunate state of things now)

Cody is really out here standing up for our average body people. I will continue to stan. Love you Cody.

I'm so glad someone found this show and did a video on it. I was convinced it was a fever dream. My best friend and I came across it while channel surfing back in high school, it was early in its broadcast run at the time, and we ended up watching it every week until it ended. It was insane.

That first woman to lose, was really the winner. She escaped the madness.

Dr. Dubrow is on a current show called “Botched” with another plastic surgeon named Dr. Nassif! They perform surgeries on patients that have had botched surgeries whether it be from birth defects or cosmetic procedures gone wrong. I like the show and they seem like nice people. They take on some hard cases on that show, but also have boundaries and say no to people that want extreme or dangerous procedures done.

I’ve always been super disturbed by how normal and easy it is to find videos of real surgeries and how gorey they can be and Cody asking why you can’t post nipples but you can post videos of people being cut open makes me feel very understood

It makes so much sense to me that a woman who has competed in beauty pageants would be on this show. She’s won beauty pageants but still feels like she doesn’t look good enough for her wedding day. Beauty pageants mess people up

the thing about dr dubrow is eventually he went to botched and in that show he refuses to do surgeries in people who have addiction and is mostly about reconstructive plastic surgery, so I was kinda surprised when I first found out he used to be in these shows that basically incentivize plastic surgery just because

This is one of those shows that permanently altered my perception from like age 6 and up. You look at perfectly normal people talking about all the things they want to change and you can't help but feel like you need to change too.

I love how Kelsey is a teacher and Cody is just a big kid who has a big IMAGINATION and role plays scenarios with himself. The two are a perfect match

"I swear to god this is an Adult Swim sketch" that's EXACTLY what it feels like. The concept is too wild for my brain to wrap around the fact multiple people had a part in making this show.

when i was like ten, i went to a hot dog restaurant and made my own hot dog combination off the menu and the owner was intrigued so much that she tried it, liked it, then added it to the menu and named it after me. the restaurant doesn’t exist anymore unfortunately, but Cody’s excitement over the june shine reminded me of it and it truly is an amazing feeling.

I remember seeing a couple episodes of this show when I was younger and thinking it was super disturbing. I couldn't understand why people were encouraged to hate how they looked and change their bodies *entirely* - especially during their _wedding_ which is about celebrating finding someone who loves you no matter what already. Plus, I thought it would be weird on my wedding day to see a totally different person under the veil.

The problem is people don’t have “bad shit” they just have bodies. Sad that everyone thinks they have to fix something.

I would love to see Cody act. His comfort in front of the camera, variety of facial expressions and speech, comedic skills, just. Have a feeling he could do better than RU-vid. heck of an entertainer.

It’s about you and her, so make it about you and her 👍 We got married with a celebrant and our two drivers as witnesses, in a stunning public park of Californian redwoods, a natural cathedral. The important thing is the marriage, not the wedding 🙂

Ohh shit I have thought about this show frequently since it came out. There’s an episode where one of the girls explains to the group that she came on the show because she had a mastectomy due to breast cancer and came on the show to get breast enhancements. The whole group then proceed to KICK HER OFF THE SHOW. It’s absolute madness.

Watched this when it came out, I was 14 lol I was so invested because I felt bad for all of them because nothing was really “wrong” with anyone. And they did a good job at having people to root for and people to hate. But as someone who definitely had a list at the time, when I finished, it honestly made me never want plastic surgery

I have always been unhappy with my nose and I watched shows like this as a teen. I remember yearning for plastic surgery, confident in my belief that nobody could find me attractive. I'm now with a fella that loves my nose and refuses to let me change it.

I have a pretty extreme needle phobia so I really appreciated you blurring the procedure videos. These last few years have been a nightmare with all of the pictures and videos of injections everywhere you look.

It's so fucked how we've turned plastic surgery into a way girls can be 'empowered'. This is the reality of plastic surgery. People being pressured into unnaturally altering their bodies for the sake of 'perfection'. Empowering someone should be helping them believe they are beautiful and strong without altering themselves. By saying 'go you' to someone with plastic surgery you're essentially patting everyone who ever made fun of them on the back and going 'i'm so glad you've manipulated this young girl into not feeling good enough'

the CHOKEHOLD this show had on me. I skipped middle school once because i binged the whole season on a school night once.

Dude this is so sad man. I had an ex who was so insecure yet she was so fucking beautiful. She had an eating disorder before we met and I tried everything I could to help her feel beautiful in her own skin. I did everything to help try and change her diet and over the two years we were together no matter how many compliments no matter how many times I tried to even help her gain some weight. She was 5"2 less than 100 pounds and all because of these crazy fake bodies and photo shopped people all over social media she never loved herself. She has the cutest most perfect nose but wanted to get a nose job. It's was so painful to watch the love of my life who would cry in my arms saying that she is fat and she just wanted to change everything in her body. I wish everybody would love everything about themselves. Fuck what you see on social media or television's or magazines. You are who you are and if you never come to see or realize how perfect you are you will never truly be happy or love someone else for that matter. If you don't love yourself then it's impossible to love someone else.

Even then, it's better to love yourself - flaws and all. But these girls look fine. They look FINE :(
