After a failed attempt at using Dexpan underground, I decide to try metal detecting for Gold nuggets using our Minelab Gold Monster 1000. What I found was my biggest Gold Nugget ( pair ) ever . Talk about Record Breaking. These will make a perfect Christmas gift .

This so reminds me of some of the work I’ve done and how frustrated I would get because of tools in the way, too far away or in a pit and not having the tool at all and then having to get repositioned. I feel your pain Brother!

(thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

The way I see it. He deserves every speck of glitter that comes out of that chasm...... Just wanted to say thanks for taking us along on this amazing adventure. I imagine there's a bunch of old fellows in wheelchairs with not much else going on in life, and you just gave him one of the biggest thrills they've had in quite a while. As for me, I'm 15 minutes away from Lytle Creek.... The dog and I gonna go Find a big quartz vein to dig around.

@@Askjeffwilliams what if you had drilled a single hole in the middle of that spot but didn't grout it? i was thinking if you could drill a disable hole there all the pressure would lead towards it. and, maybe you could use a diamond saw to make a grid or lines of slots to score the surface a couple inches deep. or, maybe you could use the saw and make cuts you could then wedge apart using hydraulics. lots os possible ways i can think of to do it. but, you would know best all things considered.

Try leaving every other hole empty, giving somewhere for the pressure to go. Might make fracturing the rock easier.

@@Askjeffwilliams I think you'll need more than every other hole. Maybe like 12 holes an inch apart in a roughly circular pattern. Basically Swiss cheese a 8 - 10 inch diameter patch in the center of that area you want to break up. Fill the outer holes with the grout and pop out a hole. Then work outward from that hole... more drilling, but it would work.

My experience with the ecobust (dexpan) was very similar. A useful tool under the right circumstances but definitely not my first choice.

Jeff, those nuggets were so massive -- they were throwing off your instruments -- but that's a good thing ! I think we can safely say that: "You're on the gold." It's a very good bet that you're still layers above the primary pay zone -- and a whopper it will be.

Congratulations on you finds, looks like you may be closer to the source with nuggets of that size. Calichie behaves like cement, or a ceramic it will only fail (crack) in tension if its in compression it will not fail. I'd shoot it like a tunnel blast out some where for it to go then kick the edges, have you tried a couple of shallow blasts to ablate the surface in a couple of shots. E.g 2 ft hole do it 2x or attempt to get the powder under the layer and try to lift it with the blast.. Or just flood the mine with acid and hope it breaks it down...

@@Askjeffwilliams if you go back to the expanding grout try using a fairly close drill pattern and only fill every other hole to try to get the crack to propagate to the empty hole

Caliche is mud mixed with limestone, so yeah, just like cement lol. Mild muriatic acid is great for getting it off of metals, just dont let it sit for more than about 15 minutes

Hey Jeff! Awesome work! Something you may want to consider is using a hydraulic ram to break through that Caliche like butter. Here’s a video from the funny and amazing Colin Furze, he built a tunnel though rock between his shed and his house. Isn't it amazing how different those beeps sound when you're detecting and when it's measuring some tool flying by? It's all in the ear of the beholder, and what's going on at the time. 🙂 Just my take, but I would have picked that jackhammer back up after about the 3rd or 4th hand hammer attempt at that hole. I think investing in some 'all' plastic lights might be a good idea.

Jeff, I really can't praise your new format enough. You're a wealth of information (no pun intended) and it's funny to be cartoonish, but you really are a good science communicator. I was trying to learn how to replace the stater in my motorcycle and somehow I stumbled on to your channel. I've watched 3 of your videos knowing not the first thing about goldmining and have been captivated. You are really good at what you do and an even better video maker. Awesome channel! My Son's and I love digging whether it be metal detecting or surface hunting. I actually bought some panning equipment when we go to Colorado, but no luck yet. At least we can watch someone else find gold. Lol
