I couldn't do what I do without support and today my biggest supporter is here to lend a hand. We get down to work and keep that sawmill spinning as the lumber starts piling up in no time.
If you haven't done so already, please click the like button (thumbs up) and subscribe for more.
Thank you!

As others have said, cherish every single hour that you can work alongside your Dad. I worked with mine from the time I was old enough to hand him a 1/2” open end wrench until he passed away 13 years ago. You are a very fortunate man. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi Sandy, I watch all your videos since the beginning, your channel is a reference for many people who, like me, have an HM130MAX, a WG24 Stump Grinder and a Kioti tractor. On the other hand, this video is too wide angle, I prefer the other lenses or cameras that you used before. But BRAVO for all this good work.

So that was your Pop, working with you? Next time, introduce him to us. Sandy, if I never give you another piece of advice, it'll be this one: CHERISH every moment you have, every moment you spend with 'the ole man,' doing "Guy stuff" and enjoying one another's company. One day, he will be but a memory, and all you'll have left are the memories. I cherish the time my Pop and I had together, doing whatever, but mostly fishing. Take care, brother...............

I love those portable garages. Every time I lose one to a tree or snow load I'm forced to replace it with another building . All lumber comes from my HM130. Waiting for a good sale so I can buy another one. I've already got the spot ready under a heavy leaning red maple. Trick is to never store anything valuable in them. My wife will never catch on

I'm just like you with waiting for the sales. I usually grab one whenever I can. Even if they only last a few years I find they pay for themselves in saved time.

Highschool kids graduated by now .. just guessing as don't know how many months kids go to school in canada. What I am getting at is some youngsters that will trade time for boards for their parents maybe and help is good as you have more of a hand with the trim wood being used up. Farm labor here doesn't require high insurances and so more leeway for lower labor costs. Just a thought Sandy

The slab scraps need to slide directly back and into the rack. Put it in line. Wasted motion having to turn each piece. Worse when your Dad doesn't want to walk that far and just throws it on the ground, causing double handling and bending. One time isn't bad but over a week, all this adds up to wasted time and effort. It's really not that hard for you to pick up the scrap holder, turn it 90 degrees so it is inline/parallel with your mill. Try it, guarantee it will save you time and effort.
@inspectr1949
@inspectr1949 3 месяца назад

@PCMenten
@PCMenten 3 месяца назад
It kills me to see you have to handle the waste slabs. If there were a carriage attached to the outside of the moving part of the mill that could catch the slabs and ride back as the mill returns back, where it could be dumped off, that would reduce the work a little. As Woodland if they thought of this yet.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 месяца назад
That would be an interesting idea.I've seen board returns on other powered forward and back sawmills but I'm wondering if since I have to move the saw head by hand if it would still work. What do you think on that one?

hey Nice video - like the 360 camera - didn't think you moved it, right? Newbie question - how many logs do you get through before you have to change/sharpen the blade?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 месяца назад
Thanks for that! I'd say if the logs are clean I could likely saw up to 10 small logs before I change out the blade. If it's a dirty log with some dirt that I hit I change it almost immediately after I see the spark from when I hit the dirt.

Sandy just curious do the boring insect continue to eat the wood after it is sawn or just till the Bark is off. If it's till the Bark is off could you not just get the slabs off and stock pile the cants till you need them and at thst point just resaw them?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 месяца назад
Good question. I have found that the insect will run it's life cycle and then eventually leave the lumber. Sometimes that is well after the lumber has been used in a project however. Stock piling the cants would solve the problem for sure

Hello Sandy. When I read the title, I was sure who the "Biggest Supporter was. I saw how your dad took the slabs and tossed them to the side and later, he bent over to pick them up and put them in the rack. What if the slabs came off of the saw and straight back into the rack, would that save a little time and a lot of back aches? Have good days!
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 месяца назад
Good question there. My Dad was trying to get the slabs out of the way as quick as possible so I could move the saw head back to get onto the next cut but I think the reason they were being piled up is because I've got a family member coming to take away the slabs for me. Next time I empty that slab rack though I think your'e right that I should move it closer to the sawmill
