This video tells the story to one of the best fishing days I have ever had!
HELLO EVERYONE!
In this video, we head out to a secret location on the Vaal River system. Salmo Lures recommended that I contact Francois Joubert for some information on Artlure Angling. Francois gave me some awesome tips and pointed me in the direction of this fishing PARADISE!

We arrived at this spot and I quickly realised why Francois wanted to keep this spot a secret... There were fish turning all over the place, and a lot of them were really big, aggressive Barbel!
It did not take long for me to hook up with my first Barbel on the popper. Shortly after landing that Barbel, my Dad hooked up with another 3 Barbel! These Barbel were so aggressive, they were going for the popper itself, never mind the pumpkin seed.
I managed to hook and land my PB Barbel on a crank (Salmo 3.5 Rattlin Hornet) in the rapids... I was well chuffed with that fish!
We carried on exploring the river and eventually, we found what seemed to be a Yellowfish heaven!
This clearer water spot on the river held the most Yellowfish I have ever seen in my life! I was truly blown away by how healthy this section of the river was!
Eventually, I managed to hook my first and biggest smallmouth yellow on the Salmo 3.5 Rattlin Hornet. What a milestone for me! It honestly felt like a dream come true!
Aside from the abundance of fish in this river, I was astonished by the natural beauty of the river system! Rock formations straight from a movie, musical rapids and deep pools all combining to form one of the most stunning venues I've had the privilege of fishing. All I wanted to do was explore and continue taking in the natural beauty.
Finally, I came across a rapid that seemed to be holding some fish. Shortly after, I hooked and landed my first and biggest Largemouth Yellow! A true bucket list fish!
I was in complete disbelief as to how fantastically successful the day had been! I still cannot believe it to this day!
