Very comprehensive, my gear is virtually the same, ok different brands perhaps, but the list is basically the same. only auditions I can think of are a seatosummet pack tap 4l collapsible water bag (empty and rolled up while riding) to reduce trips the the river, and an MSR filter pump which only weighs in at 142g . thats about it. very good list.

Thanks mate: yes that’s something I’ve never used. Most of my trips are near clean water sources but I will look into that this year. Got some more remote adventures coming out!

Amazing! How do you travel with the drone and film also? Do you keep the drone in the backpack? A video about that would be amazing!
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Thanks! I store it on my rear pannier. Fits like a glove! I just stop and prop up the bike while filming. I’ll definitely do a video on that too thanks!

It’s always interesting to see what kit other folks use. This year I’ve started using 7Mesh jerseys and jackets just love their pocket system and the fact they use merino. What do you carry your camera gear in? I usually only carry a travel camera in a small bag but I’m getting an new toy for Christmas so shall have to look at something bigger to carry it in.
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Ahh nice, not had experience of those before! I use the Topeak MTX Trunk bag for camera equipment. Sony in the top pocket, drone in the side pannier. 👍 what’s the new toy? 🤔 😆

Your videos are getting better and better 👍 The topeak toploader, can you fit a large smart phone in there and is it waterproof. Thanks
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Thanks mate. It just fits a large phone if you remove the velcro divider. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’ve put it in there before. Water resistant yes, waterproof no!

Excellent, thanks. Anything you’ve stopped using and why? Also, what is your combined weight?
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Thank you! I’ve stopped using road shoes and moved MTB shoes with recessed cleats to make walking easier. Found I was clambering up rocks and things and completely ruined my shoes! In terms of weight, I really don’t know but I imagine it’s a lot! The camera gear makes up most of that weight though.

Hey brother…quick question: your Topstone was XL…how tall are you? I’m 6’2….my Chumba Stella ti is a Large, but I’ve often wondered if I wouldn’t have been happier with a XL. Great informative video, amigo!
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Hey man, thanks for commenting. I’m over 6ft but I have very long arms and legs so I prefer bigger frame sizes. I reckon for bikepacking going for a bigger frame size is more comfortable anyway so might be worth a try!

Great videos! During your trip to Portugal, you used a drone and I would like to know if the use was legal and if you did not have any problems? Thank you for your answer ! Henry.
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Thanks Henri, yes I always fly legally. I check the flight map for areas with allowed access and take off on public land away from people and buildings etc. never had any problems flying the drone. If you know the rules and stick to them then you can’t go wrong :)
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Also worth mentioning I fly the drone in every video and do my research before I go to ensure I can fly it legally where I’m going 👍

hi I really enjoy your video. Do you hv any recommendation for a backpack for a 1-2 days biking trip for an old woman? :) Thanks.
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
Thank you! I think if you’re wanting to use a rucksack rather than bikepacking bags or panniers then I’d probably recommend the Osprey Escapist - good storage space and It has a cool attachment to strap your helmet to when you’ve stopped.

Don't forget about water. Always figure out how to replenish water. It is best if you go with someone experienced for the first time. If for some reason this is not possible, then let your first time be without an overnight stay

How hard is it to fly a drone in Scotland? let's say if one was to travel there and ride bikes?
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Год назад
I’m not quite sure what the question is. How difficult it is, would be the same as where you currently fly it. If you mean rules and regulations then the CAA has documents to show what you can and can’t do in built up areas : publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP2007_EU_Drone_Rules_Factsheet_V7%205.pdf The UK allows drone flights in National parks so just check your flight map on the drone and if it’s clear then you’re good to go 👍

To actually answer the question "gear to get started bikepacking": - Bicycle - Night lights and reflectors - repairs kit (pump, multitool with chain tool, quicklinks, ruber gloves, duct tape, string, zip ties, extra inner tube and spoke) You'll need to do it all yourself if you don't want to be stuck for a day or two waiting for simple repairs. and you'll save up a ton of cash. - 1L water capacity minimum - Dont need cycling specific clothes or shoes, just get bib shorts so your lower back isnt exposed. Go credit card touring if you can afford it. It'll be good training and this way you have no excuse to wait till you get more gear. You can train your body by going as far as you can, and returning without spending the night. The less weight the farther you go. Once you've seen everything you want to see around you, you can start doing overnighters. After that you'll have either realized it's not for you, or have become addicted to it, and your shelves will be full of bicycle and backpacking gear. Don't fall into the rabbit hole of backpacking gear, the money sucking world of UL and cycling specific gear. It's about the trip, yourself and your experience. If you truly need more expensive stuff, you'll eventually look for it, but don't keep watching these gear reviews and checklists. You'll still forget something anyways, or you'll realize you didn't need to bring your kitchen sink along. Even if you sleep at hotels and such, you want to bring your own hygiene kit - Toothbrush, paste, floss. - Shampoo soap bar. Washes everything, the good old way. You can even wash you clothes with it. - Nail file. Just file away, don't clip (causes stress fractures) - Tweezers. Absolute lifesaver. - Poop trowel, bidet, TP and hand sanitizer. Clothes: - Shorts, leg sleeves - Tshirt, arm sleeves - Fleece shirt - puffy jacket if temps down to freezing - Waterproof pants and poncho - wind breaker compactable jacket - cycling gloves IF you want to save more money, get a sleep system and a cooking system. - Sleeping pad and bag, liner is the bare minimum. - A tent or a mosquito net and a tarp (or search for housing when the weather's bad) Cooking: - Stove - gas is most commonly seen among backpackers. I never find canisters for them though. - Alcohol is most available throughout the world, especially usefull if going off the beaten path. I made a Kojin stove, which is my backup. Alcohol mostly used for disinfection. - wood, smoke repells mosquitoes, free and almost always available. My main fuel. - Multifuel stoves are awesome, except they're heavy and expensive. - Any pot. 1L is good. warm up premade meals or cook one pot stews. Get a pan when you get tired of that. - Two lighters and a ferro rod - Opinel and a Spork - Salt (minimum) and other spices. If you don't cook, at least add a pinch to your water. Electrolytes are essential. - Use ingredients you find for infusions and cooking. it'll deepen your experience. Imagine Pine needle tea while laying in a hammock in the middle of the woods... Nice extras to have: - hammock. sitting while cooking, relaxing, cooling off. - Cooling towel or water sprayer. - solar panel / wheel dynamo and powerbank - a Frame bag. Water bellow downtube and on handlebars. - ergo grips, triathlon bars, brooks saddle, front and seatpost suspension - water purifier - Company
