Thank you a million Alice for sharing your story! As someone who is recovering from a chemical imbalance (which can definitely contribute to bipolar disorder symptoms), this video is invaluable to me. 💓 I have been looking forward to this video for a while now, and I’m so grateful for more awareness on bipolar from your end. The textures of this painting reminded me of the ocean, which is a great metaphor for the up-and-down waves of bipolar. Art is such a healer, and I’m glad to heal with you. Love you

Thank you so much for posting this video and sharing your experiences with bipolar disorder. I don't have bipolar, but I am studying for a psychology degree and one of the topics we're covering is how conversations about mental illnesses can significantly decrease stigmatic attitudes, which by effect can increase the amount of support available to individuals who are suffering. I know that this may have been scary for you to do but know that it will be helpful for a lot of people out there. Thank you for sharing your story!

Your description of your emotions was so well stated, very thoughtful, and helpful. Thank you for being so open, honest, and vulnerable in sharing this. I have no doubt that you have connected in a meaningful way with many people who have felt similar feelings and had similar thoughts. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story. And for always sharing your incredible artwork. Demystifying mental illness is so important. It is best done by those of us who suffer it’s effects. I’ve become much more open about my struggles, even though it’s hard. If it helps someone better understand, or seek out help themselves, it’s worth it. Big hugs

Hi Alice. I have found your RU-vid channel as part of Louise Fletchers Art Tribe Membership. Thank you so much for sharing your story which I completely resonate with as recently diagnosed with rapid cycling Cyclothemia and just discussing medication after years of suffering I am only just accepting I have a type of bipolar as always just believed I was ADHD. I truly believe that it’s my creativity that has kept me sane and at 61 I am now just learning to paint 😊.

Thank RU-vid Alice. It was inspirational as always and I couldn’t agree more when you said it is an explanation but not an excuse. I had a boyfriend with dissociative identity disorder and he never was honest enough to understand that, he used it as an excuse to be really mean and damaging to his loved ones. I think u are brave and it is important that people get to know more about mental illnesses Sending a big hug ❤

This portrait is amazing! The colours are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I'm pretty sure my sister is bipolar, unfortunately we're not in contact anymore. Learning more about what it means to be bipolar helps me understand her. Though she not anywhere near acceptance, let alone treatment.

Alice, I just wanted to say thank you so much for talking about your mental health journey. The people who support you appreciate you not just for your art but your beautiful energy and openness. We understand you have hard moments that we don’t see on your channel. It’s nice that you talk about your struggles so others can feel less alone, especially with all the stigma behind mental health issues. You rock!

It's great that you talk so open about it. But what I really do wonder: are your mood swings really bipolar typical "trigger free"? Because from what you are telling (like lashing out on fights with your boyfriend, getting angry so easily and heavily that you might selfharm etc) it also sounds an awful lot like Borderline and a lot of BPD people get misdiagnosed with Bipolar. But ofcourse you know best, and I'm glad you feel that the medication works for you. (:

Thank you for sharing, Alice. My daughter was bi-polar 2, ADHD, anxiety disorder and more. She took her life on February 25th of this year. I tried so hard to get her help but she was married to an abusive man and she could no longer take it. I pray that others hear your story and take action before it is too late. My daughter was 35.

I absolutely love this piece. “it must be exhausting always rooting for the antihero” you aren’t perfect I know that but I do love you and you have had a positive impact on me and my life. I remember that day where you ran out of that car and then you talking about how the new medication has helped and the bits of the journey we got. I love that you aren’t afraid to talk about you mental struggles because in a way it helps us all feel less alone and you talking about it on stream helped me realize that I needed help and then I got diagnosed and then got the counseling, help, and medication I needed. Also Taylor’s lyric of “hi I’m the problem it’s me” hits home for me too

I've never commented on anything of yours before, but I felt I should for this one. I'm 38 and have rapid cycling Bipolar I. One of the commonalities of rapid cycling bipolar is that, as you age, your swings will stretch out and slow down a bit - the intensity doesn't decrease, but there will be more 'in between' periods. My swings are now ~3 weeks from a high to a low. When I was diagnosed at 15 (1999 - no one knew what this was), I was sitting at about 4 hours between high and low and it was a roller-coaster ride I couldn't get off of. It's a hard disorder, and it's hard to talk about the embarrassing parts. I try to be very open about having it because then I can replace someone's stereotype of a bipolar person in their head with me, you know? And I'm not scary, just quirky and artistic. Staying compliant with your meds is a huge help, and I'm glad they found ones that work so quickly - it took about 6 years for me to find a set that started to work. You're not alone in this. Thank you for sharing because I think you're the first other person I've seen with the disorder, and that makes me feel less alone too.

I was diagnosed as bipolar 2 with social anxiety for about a decade. Turns out that particular misdiagnosis is actually the most common for autistic women. Guess what we figured out I am? 🤦‍♀️ It was the ultimate midlife crisis, except I realized that I’m actually doing much better than I thought I was, I just have the disadvantage of living in a world that wasn’t made for me.

I have Bi-Polar II also. It took almost 25 years to get correctly diagnosed. I don't have rapid cycling but spend the most of my existence depressed. I'm on a med now that keeps the low-lows away but also keeps the high-highs away as well.

I told my mom exactly that this week. I got so irritated with my 7 y old nephew that I started speaking horrible things. And all the time I was in my head screaming at me to shut up. I was diagnosed with it at 32. I’m 42 and it’s still difficult.

My sister is bipolar 2 with rapid cycling. No hallucinations or anything like that but extreme mood swings. She is also resistant to medication. She wasn't diagnosed until in her forties (had been diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety previously.) It took a suicide attempt to get a diagnosis. Having a diagnosis - no matter how late - has offered some peace to her and helped us to understand her behaviour and to be less reactive. I'm glad your medication has worked for you. I will mention it to my sister - it might be something they haven't tried yet.
