@@VehicularDIY Hey man, I just bought a 135i, I am not mechanically inclined. Nor have the tools. Should I try to find them and do it myself? Or take it to a mechanic? You think I can trust a mechanic with this? What exactly should I ask them and tell them to get it like yours? Thanks!
Your side to side slack in the shifter that you had before you installed that rod comes from worn out bushings. The E9x manuals uses a series of bushings within the gear lever system. There is even a ball-socket bushing at the end of the gear lever stick. By replacing all those bushings you will have an extremely solid shifter with zero slack/play. Will feel just like brand new. I know this because my E90 had the same issue but with far more slack, and once I replaced all those bushings there was virtually zero slack and felt like a whole new car afterwards.
Hey! You need for sure 25mm spacers or your rear wheels... it will look very nice! 👍it did it on my car and it changed totally. Thanks for another excellent video as usual!!!
I fitted UUC motorwerks DSSR's to my E36's years ago, perfect fit, positive feel, better feel when shifting up or down, takes lots of sway and unwanted movement out of both directions, definitely recommend these 100 percent 👍
Super helpful- been debating short shifter as had on Miata speed and loved it but think this is a better alternative to tighter up the shift. Appreciate all you share - it’s unique and unexpected, and well done.
Or simply on a level of everyone out there who actually services their car at the dealership as recommended by the manufacturer. I know that's weird in USA, but in EU it's normal. That's why we don't have issues with BMW reliability.
Yeah I didn't want anything too hardcore, I like the stock feeling and throw but I don't like how when you go from 2nd to third you have to be deliberate at times to get it to engage smooth. Now it just slots in and feels more mechanical but just like an enhanced stock setup.
Well i hope you like it. But personally I just get the Ebay $20 shifters grind down the plastic if needed on the "C" clip area and it solves the whole thing!! Short shift and notchy as heck burgers!
There's a guy here in Australia that can modify the part that the selector Rod attaches to on the transmission to Stiffen it up. The DSSr because you are replacing a worn plastic bushes and shims Fully refreshed OEM parts feel pretty much the same otherwise
try to hit up Roland from Autosolutions. He makes shortshifters based on customer needs for BMW. Massive stainless steel. Also the selector is really rigid from him. Also different bushings for stiff feel.
Yeah or the latest 8 speed autos are pretty awesome, nearly DCT shifts without any herky jerky resonance in the drivetrain at times. I liked the 6 speed auto in my E90 and really like the 6MT now but the 8 speed auto in the M340i is insanely good.
Hey, I was wondering if you could give a long term update on the 3m window weld in your engine mounts that you did a couple years ago. I'm replacing my motor mounts soon, and was wondering if the 3m window weld is worth it. Thanks for all the great diy's, keep up the great work!
Hey, I ran it for a while but ended up just putting a 335is mount in there. The NVH was noticeable but not terrible. For the money the upgrade was decent but I'd recommend a 335is mount if you daily the car.
Beautiful upgrade !!! Well the shape of it looks more reliable than the original design!! What does this mean? It will be harder to damage ⚙️ gear teeth 😉
Maybe my bushings are worn but mine felt worse after this. I have a 5/09 production date and it said I needed the long version. I still needed a short version according to realoem and BMS. They swapped it out for me luckily.
? for you: when you lowered the car near the end of the video, why not just lower the front wheels to the ground with the front pump jack after removing the front jack stands? Is the angle too steep for the front bumper? Thx. Great video, btw
Cool, thanks. My 128i with the sport pkg is really low to the front bumper lip. Bit of a pain when jacking. I use some low angle plastic wedge ramps up front just so I can get the pump jack under the front jack point. Some scissor lifts would be a nice improvement!
Any idea if this is available on an n55 f10? Man after watching that sequence we need to crowd fund you a lift brother!! You could produce double the content just in time saved!! :-)
The problem is you’re shifting wrong. The springs will automatically select the gear of you just “angle” towards them. You grab the shifter by the top, not the side. Top of the shifter in the center of your palm, fingers to pull, “heel” of the palm pushes. Down and back, diagonal up, straight back, diagonal up, back slightly to the right. You should be able to shift without looking in one smooth motion. No “gating”. Hope that helps. Try this with the car off and eyes closed.
What about the shifting arm/bracket that the shift lever goes into? There are 3 bushings in total holding that bracket, do you think they could be the cause for the remaining side-to-side play?
Refreshing those bushings could help but but I'd say mostly when shifting to reverse or 5th/6th. The play I was feeling was there even with no load on the shifter.
@@VehicularDIY Yeah, I have the same feeling on my 6MT E90 as well. My local dealership offers 25% off parts for Christmas, so I am definitely taking your recommendations here. Cheers mate, keep up the good work :)
Hey brother what is your opinion on having the dynamic autowerk turbos and your stock exhaust? I only ask because I too have an OEM+ setup where I plan to upgrade to stage 2s in the future, but retain the oem exhaust. I don't have primaries but I kept my secondaries and oem muffler and I find it's the best daily sound. Do you think it will cause pre-mature wear on the turbos because of their claimed restriction? Thank you.
Hey, is your car a sedan or a coupe? I'm not worries about keeping my stock exhaust and running the DAW Stage 2+ turbos. I don't have secondaries. How much boost you planning on running?
@@VehicularDIY I found them on fcpeuro for 350 for all mine part number 1068 2980 47 but my thing is I’m curious as to know since there’s no videos out that go over the actual valve body in detail as to which solenoid controls what gear etc. maybe you can do a video and explain to us what eds1 eds2 etc mean and which valve is which
@@VehicularDIY ive only done little research, i was hoping you wouldve had a setup or maybe suggestions. Ill be looking forward to more suggestions and upgrades you do!
