MY BOAT : First trip 2023! 

I’m actually enjoying your videos about your own boat with your wife/partner here more than your videos on the super luxury yachts. Firstly, because it’s actually your boat. It doesn’t matter how large or small it is. Secondly, because the joy that you express in your own boat and taking it out with your wife is undeniable. To me, seeing your pride and joy in your own boat ownership and taking it out with your wife is difficult to top. You just can’t put a “price” on that. Thirdly, I can more relate to your happiness. It’s a good thing! Your own boating videos can become “limitless” as well. I’m not suggesting you stop with the ultra luxury yachts, but seeing the absolute joy with you two in your own boat cannot be beat. You two are awesome! Living the life. I'm jealous. Can't wait to get my boat out on the water here in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It's a 16ft 1960 Glaspar Citation with a 75hp Johnson motor. I was able to restore most of it. It turns heads at the boat launch. I've heard people say "my granddad owned one like this."

I may never own a boat, but I love you enjoying your own boat even more than I enjoy you touring superyachts. You boat is a super yacht because it carries awesome people. Your love of boating is infectious.

Back in the 80’s we would spend the weekend at the boat and then come home to an episode of Howard’s Way. We have the box set on the boat to this day. Still a thrill to see the Sealine Ambassador blasting down the coast.

So nice to see you back on the water with Smugglers and the pure joy you are having together. Fun and relaxing. Thank you so much 😀

Nick I once had an older boat and the most stressful time was turning that key and wondering if it was going to start. Even more stessful was when you went somewhere for the day and hoping it would start for the return trip.

"So", Nick, Marianne is quite right, this SO prefix thing also drives me nuts, as does the frequent "LIKE" interposed within a sentence. What is happening to our lovely English language. So, that was a wonderful day out Nick. It is so obvious you both really enjoyed yourselves, the only time Marrianne's smile slipped ever so slightly was when you took over at the helm. Lol. So, I've never been the jealous type, I've always thought that if you see someone else with something you want then don't sit there grinding your teeth about it but figure out a way to get one of your own but this video has proved to me that no-one is immune from that trait. So what in particular did I enjoy? I found being "in the engine room" while she was running full speed was particularly enjoyable to me (anything engine/engineering linked will always grab my attention.) So, what else was there, well the evening shots looked amazing and the peace and quiet seemed almost magical. So, thanks once again for an amazing experience and keep them coming. PS. I'm sorry I couldn't resist!

So good to see boating videos again (note the correct use of so 😂). These really are your best videos, Nick. The “so” lark started in the UK around 2014/5. Drives me bonkers! I think it was a US export 🤦‍♂️ Everyone knows the correct way to answer a question is to commence with “Erm…” 😂

The first sea trial of the year is always a fun time. I'm always confident because I know I have gone through every system. Still I find myself slightly anxious because with a couple seasons in dry storage I know there is always a chance of something failing under the load of pressure water puts on the boat that cannot be duplicated on the hard. Was great to see you guys enjoying the trip. I'm in Bodega Bay, California, USA.

So glad to see the start of the boatin' season. I am looking to get my first boat this year and do more videos around the Irish coast as a sailor. Not a fancy sports boat like Smugglers, but a little pilot or Nelson style semi displacement motorboat that I can plod along on during the nice day this summer... though my mates only want to go fishing and drinking in it ;-)

As someone who is not anticipating being able to get a boat anytime soon and has no boating experience, I am so grateful experience it from your eyes. I live in a beach town on the Gulf Coast of Florida and often sit by the marina wondering what it would be like to actually own a nice yet simple boat and overnight in it. 🛥

11:44 to see those instrument panel and the dials, plus hearing that hum of the engine took me back to riding in one of those coin operated boat rides at the seaside which has to be near fifty years ago. Funny thing the memory.

I really enjoyed watching this. Back in 1988 I worked on Miss Serenity, a steel 50 foot pleasure boat out of Torquay..We cruised to Dartmouth nearly everyday during the season. One day in weather very similar to your video we were leaving the Dart with 95 people on board. I was with Skipper Alan on the flying bridge when I glanced to starboard about 30 degrees and saw coming the biggest wave I had ever seen, the crest was up above us. I bashed Alan on the arm and pointed, he said something like oh my god and throttled right back spinning the wheel to starboard and waited the 5 or so seconds. I Had time to shout down into the boat telling everyone to hold on tight before bracing myself. The boat pointed skywards up and up until we reached the crest, I remember quite vividly looking over the bow and think good god the water must be 30 feet below it before we plummetd like a stone slamming back onto the water with a huge shudder and the sounds of things breaking below. Surely if it had been a wooden boat we would have sprung planks. All the certificates in frames had crashed down and smashed, every bottle and glass behind the bar and other stuff not tied down. Everyone was ok though just badly shaken..The sea then resumed back to the calm it had been before. Everytime I see the mouth of the Dart or a video of it I think of this experience. If only we had camera phones working then. Also Nick at this time Jim davidson was moored with his Princess 55 about 10 yds from us at Torquay. he came on our boat and we chatted quayside sometimes. lovely man.

You are correct regarding incorrect usage of the word "so". Many people use it as short for "so what". The phrase "so then" (in my understanding) is like "therefore". But - like some other modern-ish little English words - the word "so" can be used to mean "in this way".

Hah, I was just watching Howards Way whilst eating a late lunch Nick! I used to be an avid fan in the day....now it looks a bit amateur, but I still enjoy the location (The Jolly Sailor is still a favourite watering hole of mine). I had forgotten how much plotting and back stabbing was the norm in the late 80's. Good to see Smugglers Blues back on the water. Enjoy. Oh, and the 'So' thing....I have noticed that politicians use it a lot....'Look' is used as well! I have always taken it as a couple of seconds desperate thinking time break to dream up an answer!!

Great video as always. I was hoping that this may include the updates/upgrades to SB2 that you trailed in the video earlier where you launched her for this season. Looking forward to seeing that one too. As some of the others have said, your Smugglers videos certainly have the feel good factor - keep them coming please!

Thank you Nick & Marianne. I enjoyed watching this on what is a Sunday morning here in Texas. It was a relaxing maiden voyage of the season. I guess that fellow at the 25+ minute mark had something to prove by flying by you. SMH Nick, you're lucky indeed to make a living doing what you love. As the saying goes - Find a job you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life.

Fantastic, I had a bayliner 265 with a diesel engine, kept it on the Norfolk broads, problem was I never went over 6mph ,so was such a waste and it didn't drive very well at very slow river speeds, so now got a old Seamaster 8m and it's a perfect broads boat 😊
