When I was pregnant I got really big, deep stretch marks. There was one particular one I jokingly called "The Canyon." It was really dark and wide and stood out. My youngest is 15 now and The Canyon has never fully disappeared. At first I used to run my hand over it and feel self conscious and wish I didn't have it. But now I run my hand over it and feel a little nostalgic, and so so grateful for the amazing way my body made room for these precious humans. I never knew I could love anything as much as I love my kids, and I love that I'll always have The Canyon as a reminder of that journey.

Honestly, my body changing is one of the reasons pregnancy scares me. However, your videos are from such a good perspective that it really helps to reduce the worry and stress about it. It's hear someone work on being okay with what's going on vs trying to do all they can to return to what they once were. Setting a new expectation for society, I like it. :)

It makes me think of how some Vikings gave women honors at their funerals, even a warrior's funeral, if they died in childbirth, because the acknowledged its dangers and it being this battleground. So I like to think of the physical repercussions of pregnancy as battle scars.

As a multiple c-section momma. I can tell you the swelling and the colouring of it fades DRAMATICALLY. It's obviously been a long time (8 years) for me, but it is almost invisible now. (I've had 3) and the skin stays, I'm SO glad you have come to love and appreciate what it took to make and birth those babies. The skin does tighten up but there will always be a little pooch to remind you of the miracles you've created.

your body just went through so many changes. it's not fair for anyone to think it's supposed to look like nothing happened. you're beautiful not because of what you look like, but because of who you are and how you treat other people. and you just GREW AN ENTIRE BEING and then birthed them!!!! you experienced something that makes billions of people quake with fear and you made it through. you've been through more pain and struggle than billions of other people will ever experience and you became a warrior. you just accomplished something science can't even come close to replicating. I'm in awe of you and everyone else should be too. your body is a symbol of how you are one of the coolest people on the planet and a map of how you faced an incredible challenge every day and became a better person because you didn't give up. your baby is perfect. you created perfection. that means your body is perfect too.

Her babies were born at 32 weeks, they were much smaller than a full term baby, therefore the incision wouldn’t have needed to be any wider Your stomach is also bigger when pregnant, so the incision could have been “longer” but as your body goes back down to its new normal size, the incision won’t look as long
@jennagrace1534
@jennagrace1534 2 года назад
Adding to the replies, doctors generally try to keep the opening small because the tight pressure babies feel on their body as they come out is good for them and helps them adjust. It also generally better for the person healing, as scar tissue can be really tough and end up causing issues especially if it gets hard or needs to be released with another surgery. Also, scars can shrink or stretch depending on the person’s skin and they way they heal. Some people’s scars widen as they heal and some people’s will get really tight and shrink.

I'm pretty sure they pull in the incision back in both directions with metal instruments and then it is only one baby at a time

Heck yeah Colleen! This is such a beautiful video. I’m glad that you posted it and I think it will help lots of women going through similar things. I haven’t had any kids yet, but I think this is an important thing for me to know is likely to be in my future. You were beautiful before, you are beautiful now, and you brought three beautiful kids into this world.

Colleen, thank you for all the body-image positivity!!! This needs to be talked about more!!! I feel like women are so pressured to get back to their pre-pregnancy bodies immediately after birth and it causes a lot of women anxiety when they struggle. My daughter will be 15 months old tomorrow and I am still not back to my pre-pregnancy body. To be honest, I am still about 15-20 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight. My body doesn't look the same as before and being completely transparent, it does cause me some self-image issues at times. But just like you, I remind myself that this beautiful body created a human for 9 months, grew to provide that sweet little human a safe home and then successfully brought that sweet baby to the world. Womens' bodies are amazing and we should embrace our bodies, rather than being disappointed in them! Your amazing Colleen! This video has truly helped me to further grow with my journey in accepting my postpartum body! Thank you ❤️

You look awesome and I think any mom should be able to embrace their body even if that means they want to get into better shape or eventually do surgery or they are just fine with with whatever their body does. Pregnancy and nursing is rough and unfortunately skin can only stretch so much!! Exercising empowered me personally. So glad you’re getting help with your PP mental health struggles. I’ve been there and it’s brutal! Thank you for bringing awareness and sharing how medication and therapy are helpful and necessary to many ❤️

Thank you for this video! I had my daughter by emergency C-Section on March 11th and am really struggling with how my stomach is looking at the minute, I feel like I still look pregnant and there is a very distinct overhang! Hoping I too will think of it as a badge of honour once fully recovered! Your babies are beautiful!

When you started talking about your scar and got emotional, so did I. It's a big deal, and I was also surprised by how small, but big it was. My first was a cesarean, and my second was a VBAC. I love what you have to say about loving your body the way it is. It did SO much, and deserves recognition for hard work. Societal expectations on looks can suck it! You are beautiful, I am beautiful, we all are beautiful!

I just had my son by emergency C-section almost 3 weeks ago. It was so scary I feel like I’m still processing. My scar is off to my right side. It’s definitely a longer incision than I would have thought but they also had to open me up a second time to retrieve a sponge they accidentally left behind…😫 I’m really glad they realized it was missing sooner than later. Anyway thanks for the video. I’m sorry you went through that experience. I felt for you then and I really feel for you now that I’ve experienced something similar. All three of your babies are beautiful, take care!

Your c-section scar actually looks amazing! The way you were talking about it made it seem like it was a lot bigger than it is! Not trying to invalidate your feelings, I just had a preconceived idea of what an emergency c-section scar was, and yours looks extremely minimal and well orchestrated. This video definitely made me feel less nervous about the idea of getting a c-section one day!

I've just recently, about 9 months after my second baby was born, started to actually get into my old pants again. Granted, it does NOT look as "good" as before, but I've decided to embrace the pooch (which decidedly hangs over the front edge). I have LOTS of stretch marks after my first born, but maybe I'll even go back to lower bikini bottoms eventually. Just gotta get the diastasis recti under control (for comfort). I totally support your "eat-whatever-the-heck-I-feel-like-eating" strategy, I do the same!
