RIP RAPTOR🤣 Also,I don't want to hear a word about what I did when you can watch that TRX footage I put in the video and witness the Ram NOT breaking... Sorry Ford boys!
Were the tierods stock or came with the lift kit? Or unsure? Cause potentially they may not have been rated for the extra weight of the wheels and such. But regardless shitty
Yeah that Raptor broke way too easy man. I was honestly shocked at how easy that pretzeled the tie rods when you’ve put your other stuff through the ringer and they held up fine.
Did you not jump a Raptor as well before you jumped the TRX? You only sent the TRX further because of the V8. My question is what is the history of the gen3 Raptor?
Here's my suggestion: keep the TRX as your daily driver that you can still make videos with and have a good following for it. Then, (if money isn't a problem in this scenario) buy trucks like the Raptor 37 that compare to your daily and make content with it. When you feel you've done enough with the side-truck, get rid of it and try something else. Bottom line, in my opinion the TRX is too good to get rid of from a functionality and viewership standpoint.
TRX benchmark tests is a great idea. I can’t imagine there are going to be many trucks that will stack up well against it. (Even if I’m a Raptor fanboy)
@@jwilley1991 it would be great to see side-by-side comparisons with the Raptor R on his channel when the time comes. Maybe even take his first one off the same jump to really get the internet going and see how the results compare.
A word of advice, when doing recovery, do NOT hook your rope to your ball hitch (as in video). Because that cannot handle the forces that you’re putting on it and can snap. Hook on your frame, on the recovery point. One guy got killed when the ball flew and hit him.
You broke the tie rod by turning the wheels into a huge rock while the other front tire was stuck on a small rock.if 1 wheel is stuck an you try an steer while sitting still the tie rod goes snap before you start stretching balljoints
You guys really need shackles rather than the tow ball. There was literally a video of the same issue and the ball ripped off the hitch through the window and killed the dude
@@Maxim_74 Most likey aren't in spec if they just thanos snapped the tie rod like that from light offroading, I think that was a defective part overall tbh
When you go flying into water at that speed your asking for trouble I don’t care what your driving. The hydraulic forces under a truck like that are COMPLETELY unpredictable. You can get backwash waves with incredible forces. I worked as a scientist for the Navy and some of the wave tank theory we did on torpedoes launched from under water vs air launched vs dropped off a boat, create huge turbulence and forces that are hard to predict. After many tests with EXACTLY the same setup we’d get 10 different results in 10 different tests. What he did here could break a Mercedes G wagon or a dodge or a Chevy. There is no way to predict how much force coming from each axle and tire and knowing which direction the waves are coming from . The waves are sometimes additive and sometimes not, there’s no way to know what force is going to go in which direction. Lastly to say just because he drove this particular truck in there like that that this truck failed is just ignorant. Because you can fly in there with 10 straight trucks and have 0 failures or you can get 6 failures. This is a test that just not a good idea nor can you make any objective declarations from this other than it’s just not a smart decision
I’ve done a lot crazier stuff in my Gen 3 than this and never had any issues. I’d say replace the part and try again, I doubt you’ll be disappointed with the Gen 3, it’s a badass truck no doubt. I’m sure the tie rod was a lemon part
Well, if nothing else, when RU-vidrs like Mike do things like this with massively expensive vehicles, at least we get to see which manufacturers hold up to their claims, and which don't.
Hey world. Don’t do what you just saw today with that hitch”system”. If your off-roading- get the proper recovery ropes and hook ups. I’m no expert, but this ain’t it. At least have a shackle
@@donnylauck23 not a ball hitch like that, he has a welded ball hitch that's significantly stronger. Also he's a professional and knows what he's doing... The about of energy from a rope like that being hit at any speed is dangerous.
I didn’t think about it last night but as soon as I started this video I was wondering if it was gonna be the tie rods and sure enough. Been watching too many problems with them on the new Broncos. Glad you still have the TRX.
It’s a shame that the raptor broke I love the look of the new raptor and am a big ford guy I hope that it was just a problem with your truck that doesn’t normally happen.
Are you sure the suspension is stock? I only asked because the angle of the control arms looks steeper that other Raptor 37s I've seen. When lifting anything with IFS tie rod angle is critical. In some cases even a leveling kit requires tie rod braces or upgraded tie rods. In my opinion off road trucks shouldn't be built with parts that close to their limit but they often are and not just Ford. Ford does seem to be the worst offender currently though. The new Broncos have become well known for breaking steering components when lifted with tires over 35 inches.
@@StreetSpeed717 get rid of the trx and the shity EcoBoost and get the raptor r probably it has to be stiffer because of the v8 so keep in confidence with the raptor r because as you know its the best off-roader especially in Saudi Arabia they call it the king of the desert the ram trx the Chevrolet is not the king even tho there are a lot of Toyota's here but still there is no better than the raptor @Street Speed 717
This thing happens, the inner tie rod ends are too small and soft. Gm use to have this problem (they may still, I dont know) I bent mine on my Tahoe in the snow when I went from spinning to getting traction, I playing around lol. Replaced them with some heavy duty inners and outers that are guaranteed not to bend or break and I’ve beat the crap out of them and not had any problems. That’s just the underlying issue, the inners were to small and soft, and the truck started to bounce, when you start to bounce you start breaking things.
I hate to say this, but I agree with you Mike I cannot believe those tire rods broke for the little stuff that you did. That’s why I owned a JK Jeep and climbed waterfalls and never had a problem
Don’t be a drama queen! Ford sells their raptor Tie rods for $75 they’re the one weak point. They use the same rods from a stock f150 on the raptors that’s the big issue.. my guess is to protect the steering rack by using weak tie rods. Super easy fix don’t put the stock ones back on get RPG full tie rods and it’ll never happen again.
You hooked me in originally with your 1st TRX and ive watched everyone of your videos ever since. Everytime you gave one away I bought all the merch I could afford to try and win one. Love those trucks! Ditch the raptor! 😀
Thank God Bobby stayed true to Chevrolet and brought a vehicle that while may not be the quickest, but is built to get everyone home, and get everyone home alive.
@@TexasDmax_2k still has notoriously shitty lifters and top end associated with it? Why would anyone buy a truck you need to bulletproof to be reliable? My buddy just had his 6.2 GM motor blow up with 53k miles..
It gives me anxiety watching them wheel. I know the people who started Rausch Creek. Back in the day we helped open new trails with the club we were with. Seeing these two balls to the walls full throttle wheelin. Crazy! Try airing the tires down to 15psi put it in 4 low and crawl over the obstacles. I promise you are going to be very easy on parts. Instead of throttling your way over everything and bouncing over everything and wondering why you broke parts.
That just killed a guy a weeks weeks ago( hitch broke and shot back through the windshield killing him). There's info flying around the internet about it with proper documentation about what happened if anyone wants to read up about it
God bless you Mike. You and DDE are the top vehicle content on the tube. The only 2 channels that buy cars and push them to the absolute limits. Keep it up, brother.
Something is off here... Either something hit it and bent/messed them up or someone messed with them when they did the modifications and messed them up. People beat on these things (including me) without any issues like this. Regardless, TRX or Raptor - both of them have had their 1 off issues but before slamming the Gen 3 as trash you should get this fixed and take it back to the trail.
@@zandaughtry7936 He definitely does it for views I'm sure. I get the business he's in but it's like selling yourself to the devil. The TRX vs. Raptor stuff get's old. Both are great vehicles for different reasons... but there simply isn't a truck that's more tested and proven offroad than the Raptor. That doesn't take anything away from the TRX, it's just how it is when you have a 10+ year head start. I love TRX giving the competition to Ford... It's great for everyone.
From my best guess, it was when it slipped in the leaves and hit the right front tire, wheels dont like lateral pressure, so thats where i saw that, as for the other tie rod, that makes me feel like something was actually wrong because unless that broke during recovery, i dont see where the driver side couldve broken. And you can put all all the clips of the trx doing stuff, but the truth is, nothing the trx did forced quick pressure on the side of the front tires like the raptor. Still shouldn't have broken, but its not apples to apples, you never tske the same line on the same trail twice, and condidtions are never the same
You do recall jumping a gen two Raptor with very minimal damage, and then totaling a Trx right with a same jump (albeit a bit faster)? I’ve owed 3 raptors, and honestly I’d rather try the TRX next time. Not because Raptor is junk though, but because I’m tired of the v6 TT ECOBOOST.
What I would do? Find upgraded tie rods and send it again. 37s and wheel hopping is asking for them to break. I wouldn't throw out hope for a component breaking. Now catastrophic failure like an engine, diffs, or trans yeah I would throw it away
Yeah. They helped prove Chevy makes a strong hitch but people could of lost their head from this. There is a safety video about it with a tragic accident in Utah where a father died from the hitch flying through the windshield.
What did it was the wheel hop. Shouldn't be that brittle though. I've seen stock Broncos have the same break. You really shouldn't be yanking on the ball hitch. Good way to kill someone. I'd stick with the Ram. It's unfortunate because those Raptors are sweet . Maybe there is an upgraded tie rod setup for them?
How can it be the wheel hop when these are supposed to handle the Baja and jumps? At least that's how it's supposed to be. It could have been the wheel hop and if so just shows Ford is building these weaker than they used to while charging more money for them.
From the thumb nail i most likely called it last video with the tie rods. I am sorry Mike you had a big part failure like that. But I know you will come out better on the other side. Keep up the awesome work.
Wanna cookie? That’s chevys specialty. Ever heard the song? “Dashing through the snow in a recalled Chevrolet, over the hills we go till our tire rods break.🎶🎶
@@1996FordBronco A cookie about what? Because he saw some broken tie Rods and pointed out the obvious? Lmao Scott Disch never talked smack about ford you unintelligent idiot. 😂😂
I truly loved this video seeing you guys recover it was so funny and shows me that you are not as perfect as you appear to be off roading or something with fast cars always turns out good this not so much
I'm a Ford guy and that was a bit disappointing! I do want to say it was scary watching you use that kinetic rope hooked to the tow ball of the recovery truck. You need to get proper gear for recovery. Those tow balls are not meant for that and do break and kill people. I enjoy your videos and want you all to stay safe and keep the content flowing!
Always enjoy the videos guys! Ditch the Ford & Keep the TRX. Oh and maybe also watch a few of Matt's Off road recovery videos. Never ever pull from a Hitch Ball. Get a pintle hitch & some soft shackles to hook up to the Yankeem rope. And NEVER run over the ropes lol. Even Heavy D will tell you that one. HaHa. Keep up the great work guys.
For a truck that's supposed to handle the Baja, this should have never happened. I don't think these newer gen Raptors are built as well as the 1st gen which DID go down the Baja 1000.
Best part of the video. The genuine whaat from mike Love it. It’s so rare. That’s how you know it’s bad. I’m glad your ok bud. Loving the hair and your laugh also keep doing 3:38 whaat please
The hopping in 4 low broke it, would have happened to any IFS truck. People have made fun of chevy for years for this same problem on the HD trucks but this Raptor weighs damn close to an HD truck and still has IFS. Love your videos Mike but this was most likely not the trucks fault. Could have been factory defect who knows…
@@StreetSpeed717 Yessir, I would also question the quality of the modifications made by the previous owner but I’m sure you’ll fix it better than stock. Just like on your duramax you put the stronger tie rods. 😎
@@jensenleblanc I’d have to agree with you, those 37” MTs weight a ton. While it should definitely be able to handle it stock, those axle angles don’t look stock to me
@@justing224 Yes, looks like a level kit to me, which if you go too much with those without dropping the IFS it will break CV shafts and tie rods much easier. The hopping is tough on any truck so an improperly modified one is going to be even worse, we will find out soon I’m sure.
Not Factory Wheels and Tire specs and looks to have a Level Kit, Manufacturer is definitely going to deny warranty work without even seeing the Videos. They watch the channel, definitely no chance!!
@@jonathan.sullivan not the stock wheels and tires and it’s definitely lifted or at least leveled. The angles are way off. This is not a common problem with these trucks. There are always raptor runs in Colorado, Utah, Cali and they beat on all the gen raptors and they come out just fine
Definitely keep the TRX content Mike because Rams are rugged and fast but honestly I would like to see how the Raptor R will hold up on the trails and on the streets, thanks my friend for the dope content your team has the best car and truck videos on RU-vid .. 💯 % true 👍
Being a Ford man, the biggest problem they have is the IFS suspension. It is the weakest link in the 4x4 arena. I'm planning a solid axle swap on my truck just to eliminate the issue.
@@StreetSpeed717 Must not have saw the Ram guy who snuck under your truck with a power saw lol. But all jokes aside, these truck have went through far more abuse than that, not sure what happened there.
The trx is definitely better in every way imo. From the looks and sound to the build quality. I’ve heard of multiple raptors breaking while doing things they are advertised to be able to handle. The first Gen raptor was insane. But they’ve gotten worse as the price has gone up a ton. I love how you replayed the video that got you in a ton of trouble with the country at the end. That stream ride was hilarious.
The TRX could’ve done the exact same. You don’t floor it while wheel hoping and crawling over rocks. Add 37’s and it adds to it. There’s different types of off-roading, Mike took a Baja truck out crawling and then proceeded to floor trying to get up rather then making sure he had the correct line. You can go find video of TRX’s breaking tie rods as well. Given the circumstances, any truck could’ve.
Hey Mike, please never pull each other out using the ball on the tow hitch. Ita actually extremely dangerous and there have been instances where it breaks and the ball goes flying through the windshield of the car being pulled. They make D ring hitches, they’re only around $20-40 depending what brand you buy and they’ll save your life.
37s r pretty big, there is a reason why manufacturer's didn't sell them on a truck and u just figured out a big reason why. People dont go that big without upgrading other suspension parts and heavier duty tie rods. Get your raptor modded with beefier parts and keep it.
Mike buys a modded out Raptor from someone not knowing their history with the truck and expects it to perform as if it’s a factory new Raptor. Cmon man. 🤨
Missing the TRX! MY Ram got hit by a deer, yes she ran into me and did 8k of damage but she's still rolling and daily driven till it gets to the shop in January. All body damage.
Bronco folks have been bending and breaking tie-rods for the last year and some aftermarket companies are making beefy tie-rods and sleeves or braces and stiffen the stock tie rods. Maybe that needs to be done on the F150 Raptor as well as the Bronco.
Omg all these people saying your recovery sucked, people with you have no clue and you just beat that poor Ford to hard. The man and his friends are used to the TRX, it drives to the offroad experience tackles what's in front of it and drives home. They are not used to needing a half day, a bunch of recovery tools and a tow truck to get home.
