Still need to work on moving my body more, but was listening to this great interview while making my fresh coconut, blueberry, spinach, smoothie with cinnamon, tumeric and fresh basil. Dr Chatterjee is marvelous. As you watch this, compare the tone of voice as they basically say the same thing. One man is very kind and gentle, the other comes over as judgemental and condescending. Many of us mean well but we make the same mistake
Elly T I definitely see where you’re coming from. An example “well if all you’re doing is walking to the bathroom....” I’m regards to exercise. Not everyone can start going to the gym everyday. People need baby steps. So to condescend in that way I totally see what you’re talking about.

It is sad that stuff like this is not available to most people even in the United States, because they do not have the money to buy Dr. Hyman's Broken Brain Series. If you did not get the invite for the free online videos, which were only 8 videos, you will have to pay $97 dollars and probably some tax for just the digital videos, and if you want the DVDs with all the additional videos you have to pay out $197 for now, because it is usually $397 dollars. Well, the last time that I checked most people in America have to live paycheck to paycheck and do not have the money to spare for setting down and watching something that could potentially change their lives, but who cares? We are the poor, and only the elite get to have access to information that can improve their lives. Do yourself a favor and just go to Mindvalley and get their help. It might be a monthly charge, but at least it is only $29 per month and a hell of a lot more people can afford that. Thanks a lot Dr. Hyman it is clear that you are for the wealthy and just want to profit from peoples disorders.

Dr. Hyman, could you please make a video addressing the study that says calcium and vitamin D don't prevent bone fractures? If this is so, what should we do to keep our bones strong?
fineneighborhood I find this confusing, the evidence is clear that calcium supplementation alone won’t prevent osteoporosis. Calcium is only properly absorbed if you’re getting enough vitamin D. The scaffolding of healthy bones is collagen. A bone with good collagen has good resilience. Making good bone broths - the kind that set into stiff jelly in the fridge - provides highly bioavailable collagen. And then there are essential fatty acids! I’m concerned with this question as I’m a 59-year-old woman with slender bones, fair skin, and a mother with osteopenia.
Dear Mark, I am a big follower of your work. I started studying Naturopatic Nutrition and like you and many others I am very excited about the enormous opportunities that the field of Functional medicine has to offer, and in particular, in sustaining us and future generations in good health and hopefully keeping 'existing' inflammation drivers to a minimum. However, I would like to express my mixed feelings about Dr Rangan and the way he talked in this interview. The things he talked about are so basic and obvious that I am not sure who he is trying to impress or attract? The only impression that I get is that with very basic lifestyle advices that he gives to people, he manages to gain a pretty good living and popularity. I don't really see his show as an altruistic idea to improve people's lives rather as a money making-business idea...like many other 'capitan-obvious' businessmen.
How does a person get 30 gm of protein at each meal if one only eats chicken and fish (no red meat)? It is recommended that a person only eat fish 2x per week. That leaves only chicken. We have been told not to eat processed foods which eliminates most turkey products like sausage, bacon, lunchmeats (unless you cook your own turkey). Dairy is not recommended which eliminates yogurt and cheese. Even beans have been touted to contain a toxic substance (not sure if it is only canned beans, dried beans or both). Rice is discouraged because of the arsenic. Soy products are not recommended either, All that leaves is seeds and nuts and those are very fattening if you eat too much. What other foods can provide good sources of protein? Also if the paleo diet is recommended for patients with diabetes or autoimmune disease's like Hashimotos,, what about the aciditiy of the meats and how that has been implicated in certain types of cancers?
Yes you are right. It can get complicated. That is where a protein shake can help. I have been consuming a protein shake for almost 20 years. The source is pea protein.
Dinar AndFriends i doubt it. This Rangan Chatterjee is deeply concerned with reducing inflammation. It’s one of his core principles. It’s why he strongly dislikes highly-processed foods, especially the sugar-laden varieties. What do you see as pro-inflammatory in his advice?

Their health plummeted drastically once they started eating the white man’s diet of highly inflammatory sugar and processed starches. It’s the totality of the diet and other lifestyle factors that determine inflammation levels, not anybody one specific food. Then there’s nutritional individuality to take into account. There is no need for you to eat red meat if you don’t want to.
