So this music video was basically made as an answer to antis who were bashing BTS for not being korean enough and that they want western validation so they released this music video full of CGI and the song is literally a banger

I heard that this MV was made this way as BTS' response to bashers. 1. Antis were criticizing them for not being Korean enough, just going after Western market. Not Korean enough? Bam! Here's a video loaded with Korean references! 2. Antis claiming previous vids were mostly CGI (and they weren't). BTS says you think previous ones were CGI's? I'll show you what CGI means. Bam! Older ARMY, is this correct?

The IDOL song lyrics and MV is like an intellectually sarcastic tribute to the Kpop idol stereotypes. They're also dissing the fans/haters who dictate their actions and their idol status (RM-filters, V-glasses, Jhope-Sound effects). BTS is saying they can do whatever they want. also they were criticized saying they are being so western they should give importance to their Korean heritage, so in this vid they included so many references of their culture, along with using lots of silly cgi as a "fuck you" to all the people who said their mv had cgi when they barely used any in their previous mvs

Hi guys. This video is dedicated to the haters. They present and sometimes even exaggerate things that the haters criticized him for. For example: 1. their clothing: so here they exaggerate everything with a lot of color 2. they said that V didn't wear glasses because he looked ugly: so V wears his glasses in certain parts of the video. 3. they said that RM abused photoshop, that's why RM does those effects with little ears, glasses, etc. 4. they said that BTS were very western and not cultural: that's why they come out with typical clothing (hanbok) 5. they said that BTS used a lot of green screen and that's why the boys make exaggerated use of it in this video. 6. They criticized RM, Suga and JHope because they weren't real rappers, but idols. In one part of the song JHope says that he's proud to be one, no more irony. And RM: I know who I am. Ultimately the message was that no matter how much they were criticized and hated, that would not stop them from having self-love.

Idol, this song is such a hyper song and is so fun to dance to but actually has a deeper meaning. This song is about BTS going through some hardships regarding them being looked up as idols, rather than artists who produce music for a message to the world.

I think you deserve the reward of watching an MMA award show performance. Most people recommend 2019 MMA. And it is impressive! But I am suggesting 2018 as it has a performance of Idol that is unforgettable!

The intros are too good! Getting into IDOL, everyone says it: this is a response to antis and how they were being bashed for not being “Korean enough”. They are honestly the kings of subtle, creative, clapbacks-not only in their songs, but even real life/social media interactions (ex: when a photographer asked why they were wearing so much makeup, and Jin’s funny response on socials). I would say just jump into it the MMA performances bc Airplane pt2 doesn’t have a Korean MV, and tbh BTS has way less MVs than they do amazing songs with live performances (pied piper, dimple, house of cards, Dionysus, home, the truth untold, 134340, and I can go on forever). So excited for yall to start the live performances. 💜💜 Again, another great reaction 👏🏽👏🏽

Im baby Army and I think MMA 2018 Idol is what cemented BTS in my heart in a way no one else could. The thing is I don’t think you will get the true depths of BTS’ music unless you know what they were experiencing at the time. If you watch Rise of Bangtan (21 part docuseries) you will see how they evolved.

In 2013 BTS attends the MMA award show. They receive their first Big Award. I'm not sure if they performed. I think that's their earliest award show. Then in 2014 they perform for the first time at the MAMA award show. And every year after. Personally, I enjoyed watching them from the beginning and not leaving any year out. You do your own history check. The Boy Battle in 2014 at MAMA is a MUST SEE. Between BTS and Block B. Also fun to watch. At the 2017 Golden Disk Awards watch Rain perform. Then find the video of BTS watching and reacting to him in the audience. There is a lot to discover. Not just the 2018 and 2018 MAMA'S. So enjoy your discoveries. Truly, the 2019 MAMA is the Most Epic, but I love watching them grow as artists at all award shows.

There is a good video where a Korean explains all of the symbolism: “Idol explained by a Korean” by DKDKTV. A lot of what appears to be random imagery actually are or allude to Korean myths, stories, symbols of Korean culture. I’m not Korean and watching this video really helped me understand why this song isn’t just a standard “clap back on haters” song. It’s got layers on layers.

The thumbnail😂 At first glance I thought you guy's are really wearing that shirt. It looks so real. This song may looks so bright & cheerful but it has a deep meaning. BTS songs are always interconnected. If you see carefully there are drawings at 2.50 & onwards. Suga draw short smiley character which means people used to tease him alot for his short height. Jin draw whale, they've a song name whalien 52 & this song represents sometimes how they also feel lonely & alone. Jimin draw fire dragon I don't know the exact meaning but it maybe he's saying some people behaves like dragon & when they open their mouth their words are feels like fire. RM using filters, V using glasses & their different colorful pattern outfits are represents that they can do & wear whatever they like. They always put their fan's first but sometimes it's ok to put yourself first too when it comes to your personal choice. BTS & ARMY'S share close bond but it doesn't mean we've all rights to control their life too. They're also normal human beings just like us. They also have likes & dislikes. This song is not just for haters but to every person who mocking them, criticize them for their looks & judging them for every small single thing they do. I think before watching award stage's first do watch Boy with luv ft.Halsey, Dope, Not today, Fire, DNA, spring day MV. These are the few recommendations. Then go to MMA, MAMA Hongkong 2018-19 Also do add MAMA Hongkong 2017 too in list specially Noël will like it bcz this has full of hip hop style performances & if you're more interested to watch award stage then also see MAMA Hongkong 2016 this was the first time they won Album & Artist of the year award. Recently , I went down the rabbit hole of Suga's anxiety attack at the concert in December of 2017 in Japan that resulted in them cancelling the whole thing. He was in the bathroom for over an hour until Jimin went in to see what was going on. Suga was shaking, crying and unable to even be aware of Jimin's presence or RM when he came in later. Suga later said he experienced a time staring into the mirror and HATING himself. So, this Love Yourself video could be related. He felt like a sellout to who he was because a lot of the underground rappers where he already was a part of were dissing him nonstop for becoming the very thing they hated, an IDOL. They treated him horribly and that's where a lot of his performances and Agust D being born as an alter ego happened. Of course, the other members were helping him, as brothers do.

The primary definition of "Idol" is an image or object representing a god, or a person worshipped like a god. I've always felt like this song is sort of taking a swipe at that label. Like, it's ridiculous that a person should be worshipped and BTS know that. So they're saying, call me Idol if you want, but I know who I am and I love myself for the right reasons.
