My brushing and flossing routine - how a dentist looks after her teeth

Hi guys sorry it's been a while. I'm currently on holiday and it just reminded me that a lot of patients seem to let their routine slip while on holiday.
I find that the easiest and most efficient way to brush your teeth is using an electric toothbrush. I'm using a new toothpaste here called Biomin which I got sent to try as I have sensitive teeth and I do plan on eating icecream this holiday! My favourite floss is the oral b premium floss because it's feels really nice between my teeth and also tastes minty fresh. And I don't rinse after brushing, just spit the toothpaste out!

One question why do you use non Floride toothpaste? if your a dentist yourself don't you suposes to use a Floride toothpaste?

Did I catch that properly - you don’t rinse after brushing? So what does that mean for mouthwash...presumably before brushing?

What is your opinion on using mouthwash? What mouthwash do you recommend? Do you recommend someone use them after or before brushing?

Mouthwash isn’t necessary. I personally use mouthwash after brushing every night, in the morning as well sometimes. It is best to use mouthwash after brushing to rid of any bacteria. Make sure to wait 30 min before you do so since you want the fluoride in your toothpaste to do it’s job after brushing. One more thing... try and find a mouth wash that doesn’t contain alcohol. Edit: Bruh this was two years ago😐

What is the best toothbrush and toothpaste to use I use a Philips sonicare and and the oral b blue toothpaste but I notice in dentists if they are selling things it's always a toothbrush with a spinning head mine just vibrates

OpTic ShitScared For me i like using Sensodyne toothpaste, I don’t like the original one but others are nice and feel good when you brush and after you brush Try extra freshness Sensodyne For toothbrush I don’t think it matters but if you can get electric toothbrush it would be better

When you flossed did you use 2 floss or the same one. Also do you use a different part of the floss for each tooth?

Also it looks like you have the oral b genius 8000/9000. I was contemplating getting one or not. Would you recommend it? (i have never had an electric toothbrush before)

thanks for your useful videos, i have been trying to step up my dental hygiene after recently having many issues with my teeth.. you mentioned in another not to gurgle after brushing, but after flossing, won't there be bit of plague or food in your mouth? I have been gurgling after brushing and flossing so I'm wondering how i should change to improve my brushing routine. would flossing, gurgling then brushing be a plausible routine?

Jabori Ismail I don't think it really makes much difference which way you do it. there's no studies that I know of. The important thing is the physical removal of plaque / disturbing the plaque biofilm from all surfaces of teeth.

Does this mean it's wrong to try to brush the roof of ones mouth back to the tonsils?

nnystikai Gakushū hi you don't really need to brush the roof of your mouth. you can brush your tongue or scrape your tongue, or use an oral irrigator like the waterpik. do suffer from tonsil stones ?

thanks for the reply. i don't get tonsil stones often but my reason for brushing every part of the inside of my mouth is that i feel my mouth will have an odor if i don't. i do scrape my tongue but the roof is the only part that leaves my unsure if i'm doing unnecessary harm or if its ok.

nnystikai Gakushū there's no harm as long as your doing it gently to just massage and stimulate the soft tissues (don't use toothpaste). bad breath is usually caused by the tongue, plaque or food stuck between the teeth or under gums or dehydration (see my video on bad breath). the roof of mouth unlikely to cause bad breath as smooth and doesn't tend to collect plaque.

Your Smile Clinic Thanks for the reply. I have permanent glue behind my teeth post invisalign is there wired waterpik model too strong or would you recommend the phillips airfloss?

@@modmon216 You can reduce the power setting if you prefer but even on the highest setting it should not be an issue. I prefer the waterpik because the water flow is continuous so it is quicker and easier for me to use, also feels cleaner. The air floss you can be more precise with positioning and is more compact for travel but takes a bit longer in my experience as you have to keep refilling the unit.
